Ok so I got a Viper791XV alarm/starter for xmas and I've been looking around for a place to install it. Anywhere around here is ****ing expensive but when its -30 out its priceless to have a warm *** lol. But I went today to whom I thought was going to install it and now they are telling me they cant install it because of the manual says nothing about how to exactly install it on a standard. And without the exact information from Viper, either saying how or any additional parts I may need they wont do it cause of liability issues. Which I can understand, just annoying cause its cold and I want it now lol. Right now I dont have time to search the internet to see what I can find so first I'm asking if anyone here knows where I can find this information. I know some people have this exact model installed so I know it'll work just how.
Thanks in advance.

I am sorry if I can't help you with the information you need. I just wanted to say that I have the same alarm installed in my Manual Elantra and it works just great. It turns on, but the ac or the stereo won't turn on unless the key is on. The door power locks do not work because I need to buy some other parts. Alarm is great, reliable. If only i could open my doors with the remote I would give it a 10 out of 10 but since I have to buy other parts I give it a 8 out of 10. It is great tho. By the way I paid 130 for installation.

Yea around here they want $300-$450 to install the damn thing. I'm almost thinking about just selling it here or eBay and using the money to buy a basic starter that comes installed for like $150 or something and not deal with it.

that would be something smart to do, i guess it is just the brand that they're selling. I bought mine on ebay for two hundred plus shipping so if you sell it there you can expect something like that.

I installed my own as I used to work at a local car audio shop. You don't need extra parts to do locks with any type of sytem as long as the brain is equipped with the option. The Viper 791 is equipped to do so, and you may want inquire directly to Viper, or should I say Directed Electronics, for help resolving th einstallation issues with the locks. The same can be said of the problem that started this thread, just call em up or do a web search, altho you might need a dealer login to get the manual, not sure. Good night.

i would try to find a little not-a-major-business place. the guy who does my window tint has a little 2-3 car garage he does the tint in, and has a guy who comes in to do alarm installs. its one of those 'if you want a reciept i have to charge you tax' places, so he doesnt worry about liability on an alarm in a 5 speed. im still considering it. $ first

^^ thats what you gota do basically, anywhere that actually claims their work wont do it. According to my mechanic in PA its actually against some law to install a remote into a manual, hence you really have to find some little place that just wants cash in hand -its not that the starter itself is illegal, its that bypassing the clutch is illegal (or so he says). i duno, doods a buddy of mine and been installin **** for like 30 years.. not swearin by his word or nothing.. but i assume he occasionlly knows whats up heh

The reason that you may need extra parts for your alarm/remote starter install is that;

A) If you don't have a factory key fob(remote) than there isn't a power door lock motor in the drivers door. That would mean they would have to put the motor in the door, as well as run the wires into it.

B) To legally install a 791X in a manual car you need the manual transmission part 688M from DEI.
It makes sure you have the e-brake up, and leaves the car running untill you shut all the doors. If any of the doors are opened up after the inital shut down the car will not remote start (protecting the car from accidentally being knocked into gear.

This module is a good idea to have, becasue explaining to your insurance company that your car remote started and killed someone (if your e-brake is broken or not strong enough, the car will drive) isn't always the easiest thing, as well as sleeping at night might be a problem.

This really is a great alarm, it is also the same as the Clifford RSX 3.5, I have 2.

just read/heard about this recently. finally custom remotes for manuals that actually check to see if your in nutral and that your brake is on.. that *should* make it legal in the states where it normally is not allowed. From what i hear the only reason its not legal is becasue of all the bypassing, but if it actually sniffs to see that everythign is in order it should be an issue!

course that is commen sense.. and we all know that state rules/regulation/ and laws sure as hell dont use that!

I never even thought about someone getting run over by the car. There was a guy on the other Elantra site who took his car in to have some work done on it and when it was done he hit the remote start and the car took off across the lot and plowed into a new Santa Fe. He insisted that the dealership was responsible. Idiot.

Yea, the running someone over problem was what they told me why he wouldnt do it. I'm gonna go see how much it costs for just a basic starter here installed, because I'm 99% positive its cheaper than $400 then just get that and sell this one.
