powder coated wheels

Anyone every powdercoat their wheels ? I kinda like the stock 04 GT wheels but would prefer them black.

Does powdercoating ever chip off ?

I've powdercoated the wheels on my other car. Powdercoating is much more durable than paint and does not chip off. Obviously it can still get damaged if you curb the wheel or if something hits it, but under normal circumstances, it's much harder to damage.

If you wanna change the color of your wheels, powder coating is the way to go. Definitely, better than regular paint. But it is more expensive too. Be prepared to spend around $40-50 per wheel unless you get a hookup or can do that yourself.

Getting the wheels powder coated is not the real expensive part. It all depends on what your wheel are right now. I have a set of 17in Zenetti Valeos which were chrome at one time. The chrome was flaking off so I had them stripped down and powder coated. The cost of getting them stripped was like 300$ and then to get them powdercoated was like 225$. This was still better than going out and getting new rims. Powdercoating is the way to go for durability and they look really good. People ask about them all the time. Go for it

I hear somewhere that I should be concerned about the fact that the wheel will constantly be flexing and this may effect the powdercoating.

Has anyone hear of this problem ? Is the finish like paint ? Glossy vs. flat, or it that an option ?

I don't think this is a problem and have never heard of it. My friends who have powdercoated wheels have never had any problem with flaking or chipping

The finish on Powder coating can be as varied as paint. You can get almost any look you want.

Sorry to tell you, but you kinda got ripped off getting them stripped. The place that stripped the 19's on my benz before they powdercoated them charged me $10 per wheel to strip them.

true, although depends on the condition and what the top layer is and you can't sand it if you want a top quality final finish.
Stripping the rims entails a big ol'chemical bath to remove everything.
