No snow where I am yet!
Yea, theres at LEAST 5" of snow everywhere. Its coming down so fast here, that they cant even plow the roads fast enough. I just got off them from work, and let me say this...
Im so glad I own a 5-speed with no ABS/TCS/ECS, and all that fancy jazz.

It sucks. We only caught like an inch of it out here. I wish I was an hour NW of here, it would be great and I could get a day off work.

started out forecasting less than an inch, then it jumped up to a foot...I think we've got half of it outside now. James, in your sig is that water on the bottom of your rear view mirror?? I keep feeling like I want to wipe it off for you.

We're slated for between 12-16 here. Penn State will of course not cancel classes for anything short of a tornado coming through, and than only if it damages anything belonging to Graham Spanier (Our President).
Of course, donuts are always fun when theres only a little snow on the ground...

To add some more, we are getting a bunch of ice/freezing rain which makes it fun to drive.

So I'm supposed to be at work about 20 minutes ago. I just went outside to go (car has been on for a while, I love remote start) but there is so much ice on it I couldn't even get in. The doors are all froze shut. I got a cup of warm water and splashed it around the edge to get the door open. I got my ice scraper and there is so much ice on the windows it doesn't even do anything.
So now I'm just letting it warm up some more. Yay.

All Classes at PSU until 5 PM just got cancelled!!!!!!!!!
Funny thing is I wouldn't have known except my neighbor was out clearing off his car too and heard it on the radio...they didn't have the websites updated until 5 minutes ago...despite the cancellation occurring an hour ago...hmmm....

He was pulled in foward though, so I think that was his downfall.

I'm at work now. Been at work since about 10. I helped a guy in a Camry out of his parking spot then he helped me out. I should have given it a try without any help to see if I could have done it though. It's pretty crappy on any road that isn't a major road. The parking lot here is all messed up. I got close to our building and it got stuck so I just put it in park and came inside.
It's going to be a boring day for us.
Still, I wish we would have been hit with more snow.

This is what the snow brought me too yesterday. Worked in the office until 5, then went and plowed until midnight.
I got bored waiting for my truck to refuel, so I took out my camera. Was assigned to a nearly-brand-new International truck. Got behind the wheel with 5,700 on the odometer.

02-14-2007, 01:17 PM
2500s are smaller than anything we have. The smallest trucks we use for plowing/salting are F450s. We have 2 F350s fitted with plows, but that's pretty-much for clearing Village Hall / Police Stations / Fire Stations parking lots.
I actually like plowing as long as it's a storm. I hate post-storm cleanup, like clearing cul-de-sacs and curbing, cleaning up the snow that people throw into the street. A-holes. When they do that I get a good head of speed built up, angle the blade up their driveway and throw the snow all the way up to their garage.

I'd like the county highwayto actually PLOW my road. They leave us to the wolves. Luckily the local farmer comes out and busts us out. He didn't get there until 10 am this morning. I spent 2 hours digging out the driveway with a shovel.
Somewhere between 9-11" fell at my house last night. The 30-40mph winds made some awesome drifts. 3-5' tall in places.

were getting it pretty good here, we've got to be around 10" by now, basically our biggest city closed down at 1. Plus no classes for me:D Too bad work wont be lol
i went home from work after 4 hrs on tuesday and missed altogether yesterday, its not even the snow here, but our roads were just super icy and driving was ridiculous. i opted to stay home and not send me car into a pole :P -i spun around the block and thats just it.. i SPUN and SLID.. so i was like yeah works like 20 min away and all hills.. screw wreckin. it aint worth it..
today was just slush, i only slid a little comin in.. glad i had those snow tires put on!
I've kinda wanted to get a job driving those big *** plow trucks...I think it'd be fun.
And I've found the weakness of my XD. 4+ inches of snow will defeat it. Otherwise, on tuesday, when cars of all makes and models were spinning around I was happily cruising through town without a problem, haha. WITH all-seasons to.
Granted tires do help, but it all comes down to the driver.

i did pretty good yesterday with 6", i plowed my way through the bronx with my 1.75" drop! haha i swear i was gonna get stuck, almost did in the McDonalds parking lot (the only parking lot in like 3 block radius) which wasnt even plowed! NYC Sanitation dept was definately lacking yesterday with their plowing.
Bleh, I would make it outta the driveway if I really tryed. Its just the car is facing the garage, so its reverse only. Haha, mock-RWD

^^ Yea I love it when its NOT you thats stuck lol. 2 cars yesterday got stuck in the same spot (entrace to my gfs dorm) one was an audi the other an oldsmobile (**** i cant remember the name right now) but either way they were pissed when i just drove through it like nothing lol. Overall the xd handled snow pretty good. My road was unplowed when we were up to 25" and I made it through. The roads were pretty much a constant 6-8" and I didnt go off there either. Was fun doin some snow drifting though:D

so tuesday night i decided to come to my g/fs house after they sent us home at 5pm (was supposed to work til 9)...i told myself "go home or you'll be sorry"...i didnt...i came here, to her house, parked in the driveway about 530....9pm i go to leave...by this time, it had been freezing raining for about 9 hours (was doing it while i was working)
i finally get my car ice-free-ish about 930..pull into the street (she lives on a court), and im stuck. back and forth nothing. i shovel a spot in the street, clear her moms car off (which was in front of me in the driveway, her mazda3 was in the garage) and we do a little moving of the cars...we helped her neighbor get into their driveway (rwd lincoln town car), and end up getting her mazda out...this thing is a beast in the snow...hasnt gotten stuck
i end up going to my place, get a change of clothes, feed the cats, and come back...wednesday she gets called off work...i took her car...no plow yet
thursday, i drop her off at work in her car, take it to work, pick her up at 6...plow has come today.
i decided today its finally time to get the bridgestone potenzas off and some all seasons on....call my buddy up at NTB, all season yokohamas for 225 installed for the set, brand new, 40k warranty.
get back here, try to drive the car out, get stuck in a bit of deep snow/ice...neighbor comes out, me, g/f and neighbor push car, g/fs mom drives...
we got it out, and its spending the night at the tire shop and ill get it tomorrow, but this will be the 3rd night ive stayed at her house....it means i get to drive the 3 again tomorrow though :D:D:D:D:D

damn you all season/summer tire guys. I haven't had any troubles at all with my winter tires, 35cm of snow yesterday, and I couldn't see the car because of the plow dumped another 5 foot of plowed snow onto my car. Dug for a few minutes, snow was compacted under the car...a little back and forth motion at the outset, and I was OFF...winter tires and some good driving know how rule!
