Looking to compile a list of vehicles with All-Wheel-Drive, an Auto Trans option, at less than $25,000 USD.

The ones that immediately come to mind are the Subarus with the non-turbo 2.5 engines: Impreza 2.5i, Legacy 2.5i, Baja Sport, Outback (sport, 2.5i), Forrester 2.5x. However the stupid Baja comes AT with Turbo.

Beyond that, I'm having trouble coming up with much? Just another exercise, no real reason at this point (unless a meteor hit the Elantra parked outside).

The list:
The Non-Turbo Subarus
Suzuki SX4
Ford Five Hundred (soon to be Taurus) SEL AWD
Caliber RT/AWD
Ford Fusion
Mercury Milan
Saab 9-2X
Suzuki Aerio

Suzuki SX4. Starts under $16k.

Other than that. . . .I got nothin'. Small "cute-utes" are about all that's left.

Other than what you mentioned...
Suzuki SX4
Toyota Matrix (can't remember the name of the AWD version)

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

caliber has a AWD option, and its made locally.

but at that price range, why not splurge, and pick up a mazdaspeed6. its a 6 speed manual, but the 06's are going for under $25 out the door fully loaded.

^^^ Because it doesn't fit the rules. Must be AT for this game. If MT were allowed, the WRX would be an option as well.

Caliber RT/AWD fits the list at $19,670, has CVT.

-will edit list at the top to include all of these

you dont want the turbo subarus because of insurance i assume?

hyunelan2

^^The turbo subarus don't come in AT, except for the Baja. I thought the WRX was auto option, but when you build your own on Subaru's website, they block out the AT option.

Edit, I see. ON the WRX you have to pick the Limited package, then add the AT. Which puts the price at $29K, so it's disqualified.

Toyota Matrix XRS (if still being produced?)

the XRS was only produced in 2003, and it was a front wheel drive matrix with a celica GT-S engine in it. Toyota still makes the Matrix XR which is just a 1.8L corolla motor. Some of the XRs were produced 4WD, as indicated on the hatch lid. They also made a base Matrix 4WD.

:)

And if I remember correctly, Matrix's (Matricies?) are really close to that $25k mark if you get anything but the base model (which runs 19k I think)

^^^Good eye. Following up on that, they make a "Matrix 4x2" and a "Matrix XR 4x2" now. I almost bought a Matrix back before I bought the Elantra. It sucked to drive though.

does it have to be new? Cuz w/ that amout of $ you could get an old mazda 323, eagle talon, awd celica... does it have to be 4 door or what are the circumstances.
used jaguar x-types can be had for that amout, audi a4 wagons,

I was thinking 9-3 or S40, but those are over the price range 4K+.

I guess if you call the Compass a car then it'd fit the bill.

eh, I just like to pretend my wife would let me buy a new car. New is the way to go for comparison games, because once you throw used into the equation, the sky's the limit on possibilities.

I love the AWD factor on the subies, but it sucks the Legacy can't be had with a Turbo + AT. Their 2.5i's seem somewhat underpowered on paper?

I don't think there's any way the wife would ever go for stickshift. I'm not a racer anyway, so MT would just be more PITA for me than anything really. Shiftronic or the like would be preferred, actually.

If we were considering SUVs, Toyota FJ Cruiser would be a done deal. The Compass does have great legroom, but I don't really like it beyond that.

At $30K, this game would be too easy.

Gotta be quicker;)

I was wondering why no one mentioned them either.

I forgot about those 2 as well. Don't they have the same underpinnings as the Volvo S-40?

im pretty sure the s40 also shares quite a few things with the mazda3...ill have to check the mazda forums again.

Ok, maybe I messed up. The Fusion/Milan shares underpinnings with Mazda6. The Taurus and Sable share underpinnings with Volvo S60. The Saab 9-2X is also the same as a Subaru WRX with the 227 HP motor, but quieter interior.

ford focus CMAX, european focus, and volvo s40 share the same "C1" platform as the mazda 3

huh. Guess I didn't realize the S40 was that 'small' of a car. Guess that explains why my feet don't fit in the pedal area.
