Its not a serious problem, but I have been having this weird noise come from under the car for about a week. I think its my header (It reminds me of header noise). Its like a rattling sound. When I start my car in the morning, I can barely hear it. I did a quick look under my car, and saw nothing. Its a weird sound, I can only hear it during the low revs (before the throttle noise.) There hasnt been any cels, or performance problems, but I was wondering if anyone could help? Its really annoying.

If it's a rattling, check the heat shields on the exhaust.

Correct, but there may be a loose bracket or hanger or something...or possibly a heatshield on the cat is getting loose and dangly...

^ could be the cat heatshield that is welded on the frame under the car

Sound like the same problem I had last week, (thread) (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21169). Sounded like a loose heat sheild, but then the dealer just replaced my whole cat, probably not necessary but I wasn't going to complain, and it fixed the problem.

On my old Aspire, I had to climb underneath about every 6-12 months and tighten all the heat shield clamps, and replace the ones that broke. One reason I liked the Elantra over some of the competing cars is that more of the heat shields were mounted to the body instead of the exhaust. But I guess there are still some heat shields left on the exhaust mani and cat.

I got that noise on my mom's old Escort after I tried to drive over some snow and got hung up. It was some kind of ring/bracket around the cat heatshield. I had a shop cut it off during a oil change. Hope it wasn't important...

I agree with Jimbo on this one. Of course, sometimes it's hard to simulate driving with your hands. What I mean is that when my sway bar was loose I could shake it with my hands and there was no noise, but when driving there was.

If it's a vibration at certain rpms, have someone in the car, and get down NEXT to the car and poke around the exhaust with a broomstick. If you can press on certain shields or brackets and make the rattling stop, then crawl under after the car is turned off and see what's loose.

Thanks for the offer. After investigating, I think its the shield on the 2nd cat. The sound is definately coming from the middle of the car. I did get under the car, but didnt have anyone to press the gas to confirm it.
Ill try to get a sound clip.
