So its been about a year since the last time money came up missing around my place, so I guess it was time again. Went out for pizza/beer last night. Here in Oregon you can't smoke inside, so my wife and I took our beers outside to smoke. She left her purse in the booth, MISTAKE. Had our rent money in it, MISTAKE. As we finished the bar tender (who is a friend) brought her purse outside to us (don't know if he saw something odd or just decided to do it). Got home and she opened her purse.... $500 cash missing. SWEETNESS!! My wife is all about kickin @ss and such, I know it is just a loss that we can do nothing about, just sucks, can't figure out this karma that seems to lead me to losing money every year or so. Lost about $8500 in the last 5 years to home breakins, car, wallets, ect.... So to any thieves out there just remember the person you are robbing isn't neccessarly well off, you could be royaly screwing someone that lives a (fairly) honest paycheck to paycheck life. Life will serve up yours eventually (hopefully once you have gone strait and narrow so you see how it affects real people that need to pay bills on time or ruin their credit/get evicted/get car repoed). I know working 2 jobs and going to school I don't have alot of extra time to run out and work up an extra $500 by the end of the month. Just pissed pissed pissed pissed!!!! Ahh the relief of the flame... I don't feel any better.

That doesn't necessarily explain it. Why pay rent in cash? When I rented, I always paid by check.

At my buliding, there's 200 tenants, with all the bad checks that they were getting, they implemented a cash only pay. It all depends on the landlord I think.

But taking CASH to a BAR is a recipefor disaster in my book.

It's not that we pay rent in cash, but my wife gets paid in cash and I cash my check at my work, we were going to go to the bank today to deposit it.

But taking CASH to a BAR is a recipefor disaster in my book. Very very true, but like I said, we both knew it was a mistake, we just didn't think about it. I have always made a rule to leave large amounts of cash at home, just broke the rule this time and got screwed for it. (and leaving it at home in the past hasn't always worked either) Just one of those strokes of luck, just not a good one.

Maybe one of those hidden floor safes would be the best thing for you!! My inlaws swear by theirs.

Ive lived with roomates for years so I have had safes in the past (keeps honest people honest) and I've had a safe stolen too. Only a couple hundered in it, but still. I must have been a theif in a prior lifetime, and this is my karma, its the only explanation I can come up with.

$8500 in 5 years = Time to move outta Oregon.

Seriously, that really sucks. At least you can understand it was a mistake and I imagine you'll "learn from your mistake."

Ya know, I never even thought of it, but I have never been robbed until I moved here, bout 6 years ago. And I have definitly lived in worse (more dangerous) places. Hmmmmmm....

Oregon is about as safe as you can get ... of course, it depends on the company you keep. It's pretty silly to cash your check at work then take the money to deposit at the bank. Just take your check to the bank and deposit it to your checking account.

Any apartment complex I have inhabited has required residents to pay their rent by check or money order. If they bounce a check, then they are required to pay by money order. I would never give a landlord cash. You're just asking to be cheated. At least with a money order or check, you've got proof the rent was paid.

YA ya ya ya ya I know.... The only reason I cashed my check at work was I needed cash that night (I work nights) not the next day when the bank opened. So I gave the rest to my wife who was going to the bank. It was all just a bunch of bad coincidences, and mistakes on both are parts. But getting jacked STILL MAKES ME MAD!!! weather or not it was a mistake on our parts someone still stole from us. Thats it... Done with this thread.

Money orders are same as cash, if your landlord takes cash, he/she will HAVE to take money orders too.

Maybe you should try that from now on, to be on the safe side.

True that. I cannot beleive there are people out there with the audacity to steal from someone's purse. Finding a $5 bill on the ground is one thing, opening someone's purse, rifling through it, taking $500, and running off - is... dunno. What's a good word that the language filters allow?

A few come to mind...unacceptable, pathetic, disappointing...

I just can't believe how someone could do that to someone else and feel no remorse. How would they like it if that happened to them?
