View Full Version : Floor Jack and Stand points?

okay so after reading the few threads on jacks and stands I am left with a few questions.
up front: many people say you can lift (via floor jack) from the center of the cross member that runs across, and I guess even drop it on stands that are out towards the end. other say to NEVER jack from the front center. What is it? Can I or cant I?
out back: there seems to be a decided lack of floor jack lift points. Where can I lift and where do the jack stands go? if I put the floor jack where the rear-sub frame mounts then where do I put the stands?
It would be nice to have a pinch-weld adapter for my floor jack. but I need to lift the car tomorrow morning.

ah, sorry to resurrect this thread but...
anyone know the best jack points on our cars? I really don't like the points under the runners, they keep bending on me (I use an aftermarket jack).
Is it good to place jacks under the point with the green arrow? (pic attached)
Could anyone put up pics of good jack points on our car? (especially for people who have body kits!)
Thanks. I'm just getting kind of tired of that skinny little metal strip bending.

^^There are marked notches at the front and rear of that rail that you place the jack between. I use them when I change my rims and have'nt bent yet.

yes, they are marked, but if you don't have a jack that is meant for the pinch welds, the rails will bend with a normal floor jack.

Mine didn't bend for 5 years. I would jack up the entire side of the car and do rotations. But weekend before last I did a tire change at the track and both side bent. First time in 5 years.

when I jack mine up, I use a floor jack on the uh... not sure what it's called in the back - big solid suspension piece that holds the car together... maybe an arm or subframe? again, not exactly sure what it's "called" but you can guess what I'm talking about...
in the front I jack the car up against the bottom motor mount (if it can hold the engine it can hold the car)
I usually jam a piece of nice solid wood (2x4 scrap) between the jack and car to prevent denting/scratching/slipping.
I put jack stands where you jack the car up with the OEM scissor jack (where it's marked on the rails under the car behind each wheel) and wedges or rocks/bricks wedged against the tires to keep it from moving too much.

I use a floor jack as well and there has been no bends in the rail for over 3 years now. I only bent it the first time when I went ahead of the front marker on the rail.

I bent one side with a floor jack on my 8 y.o. J2 today. I've used the center of the front subframe forever without problems.
Grease your scissor jacks!

I usually lift mine with a floor jack as well.
I lift the front first, using the lower radiator support, with the tow hook attached to it. I then put jack stands under both sides of the front.
For the rear, I use the REAR SUBFRAME (slyderdai, you were right), to lift the rear entirely in the air and use jack stands.
As far as lifting one side or the other, I've used right below the front control arm, and for the rear, the rear knuckle assembly to lift the car.
