well the money gods have blessed me with a ton of refund money. First the smaller amount, im getting $800 from uncle sam for my tax refund. Then my school is giving me a tuition refund (registured full time now part time and took a big student loan out) for a little over $4k. hmmmmm let me think, wheres this money going? haha

Telly (silet) has been so nice to offer me some body parts to replace damaged body parts on my car, as well as his motor from his scrapped 02 GT at a very reasonable price... THANKS TELLY

Im going to use that motor as my project and home to have it in my car by the end of May.

Whats going on that motor you ask? well thats a good question, Most likely the Alpine stage 1 intercooled turbo. im hoping to get the money before march 2nd so i can buy the turbo while its on sale. otherwise i may by the stage 0 non intercooled and upgrade later. im also going to Port and pollish the IM and possibly paint it myself. while the motor is out, i'll upgrade to a stage 2 clutch.

This project will start in a couple of weeks. i got one check for $1,200 already and another big one friday hopefully. not sure when my tax return will come in, but its not really needed for this.

i will take pics of everything i do and of course take pics cuz i know everyone loves posts with pictures! haha wish me luck and anyone in the area who wants to lend a hand when i start getting down and dirty and more then welcome to assist.

Felix has been a great source of info and we'll be swaping a couple of parts once i get the motor.

Good Luck my friend! Man I miss college refund checks.

Hell yea, my refunds used to go to snowboard trips out west, but im done with that, a turbo is so much better! haha, this is by far the most amount of a refund i've ever gotten. i love my financial aid advisor! she rocks my socks!

im actually starting to lean more towards the supercharger now..... im just worried about the whole non cooled aspect. i dont want to be fixing **** every week, i think the supercharger will be more reliable, and all my previous mods wont be worthless. and i know i wont get the #'s you get from the turbo, but im starting to get this good feeling about the supercharger. like upgrades will soon be out or something.

02-28-2007, 11:44 PM
yea i thought about the s/c too then i was like WTF am i thinking lol
its up to you though.non intercooled is good to 9 psi from what i have heard.i ran mine for like 3 months with no problems.either way,you will notice a nice difference in power

02-28-2007, 11:46 PM
think about it this way: you're going to spend pretty much the same amount of money on each kit. might as well get the best out of it. and i STILL stand behind this: if you treat your car fine then you won't lose reliability.

KeWLKaT
02-28-2007, 11:50 PM
yeah but i STILL stand beside this:

FI = PROJECT

Your car becomes a PROJECT, not a daily driver "wake up in the morning and go to work safe and sound" thing.

my01elantra
02-28-2007, 11:51 PM
Yeah if you want reliabilty go with the supercharger, I have the alpine kit and while everything works great just like any car that is not boosted from the factory things tend to break and go wrong so unless you have plenty of $$ to drop into your car I wouldnt go turbo. Stay with the supercharger and keep alot of $$ in your pocket, thats just my .02. Hope that helps

NY2002ElantraGT
02-28-2007, 11:51 PM
well the gains are alot more with the turbo, i just think im gonna end up spending alot more. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO! i just emailed alpine to see if they will be offering an intercooler soon. they used it on the 500hp project 2.0L motor.

alright man.

Don't listen to me, toymachine, and my01elantra who basically agree on this aswell as EVERY other person out there who has done it.

You talk talk talk man but once you get there you will know what I'm talking about. We'll see if your new elantra with the built turbo engine is going to be used daily AND in winter too (which, in my case, is what killed my setup).

NY2002ElantraGT
03-01-2007, 12:39 AM
Felix i dont know what happened to me today, i am really leaning toward the SC. i'll still send you that oil pan if you want. i think the supercharger would be a better set up for me. i hope i dont regret not getting a turbo.

I sent this email to Alpine Developments:

I've been trying to decide on whether or not i want to
buy the Turbo or the Supercharger. Today im leaning alot more towards the
supercharger. my question is this. i know you the 500hp 2.0L project you
guys have on there the supercharger is aqua cooled. will you be putting one
into production. im just nervious boosting 8psi without an intercooler.
thanks for your time, look forward to your reply.

And got this email as a reply:

Dear Justin,

Good day to you and thank you for the email.

The 2.0 Supercharger kit has been in production for over 6 years now, we
have had no problems. The stock motor is easily capable of 8psi, you could
even push it up to 12psi and still be safe, but we recommend 8psi, this is
the same as our entry level turbo kit.

We will be releasing a intercooler upgrade in the future, purely to enable
more horsepower to be made, and not as a precaution for the motor. The
intercooler will obviously just create a colder charge and make more power.
This will be offered as an upgrade to the existing supercharger kit. When
this will be released I cannot tell you.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind Regards
Richard Grace
Director of Marking and Sales

I completely agree. I've seen this happen time and time again. If you want a turbo'd car that makes a good daily driver then buy a WRX. ;)

As long as you know before going into it that your car will become a project from this day forward, and you're OK with that... then go for it.

Picked up the motor today from Ismael (tonymachine) in PA. not a bad drive. 2 and a half hours each way.

its more than i expected. Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, even the plugs and wires were attached! (not that i would use them). here are pics of it in my dads Durango! it took 4 of us to lift it in there on the wooden palet.

^ you also had the one guy who was looking for an exhaust manifold and down pipe...you might want ot look for his post and let him know you have extra...

yea he PMed me about it. i still have my old one sitting in my basement. im thinking about leaving this one on to get through inspection easier.

it wasnt too bad getting it in my dads Durango. it took 4 of us to lift, but really want too bad. and it fit in the back without even putting the seats down. its sooooooooooooo drity, if i had the man power, i would take it out of my dads car tonight and pressure wash the sh!t out of it!

that'll be tight if you get the s/c from ngm. I think it'll be the most promising mod to be developed for the beta. I'm hoping T.C's tests w/ the beta work for the mp62 and that our engine's make enough power for the blower to push enough air

Just picked my car up! thank god its all over. $950 for the motor swap and for the clutch/flywheel install .... not bad considering all the labor that went into my old engine for free. The new Southbend clutch and 7.5 lbs fidanza flywheel are a great combo. i recomend it to everyone who needs a new clutch. i paid about $600 for both and it really grabs great. its a low catch and there isnt much play but it makes my car feel faster. im gonna run outside to wash it up and detail the enigine bay so i can post pics. honestly this is the best my car has ever run!

next will be new rotors and pads, then installing the OEM High Spoiler and IM Spacer. after that will hopefully be the supercharger.
