And spot the cheapest f'n AK ammo, EVER. $3.78/box. I've been ALL OVER the stores in the city, and even the gun show - never seen it for this kind of price. I was just like OH SNAP, I need to seize this apportunity. So I go find me a shopping cart, and start piling up everything they have on the shelf. This dude who works there comes up to me all like "uhhh... can I help you?". So I ask him how many more he has, he's like "about 2 more cases". So I tell him to bring it out, and throw it in the cart too. So I have like a foot and a half tall pile of ammo filling up the whole shopping cart. Needless to say, I got some very interesting looks standing in the cashier's line.
All in all, I'm set for the next year!!! I bet could start a little war if I wanted too.... hahaha
Check this **** out, I had to make to trips to my car to get it all.

More like $620.
I go to the gun range all the time anyway. I might as well stock up on some cheap ammo while I have the chance, and not even worry about it. Or pay $7/pack later, because I have a pretty good hunch I'll never see this again. I just saved myself HUNDREDS of dollars in the long run, $400 to be exact.

So in the long run what do you get from the range? Does it help in your day to day life, are you going to shoot people from the trunk of a car? I guess its an alternative to counting from 1-10 when you are angry. I agree with saving yourself some money in the long run though, thats always a smart thing regardless of what your hobby is. Good score!

What do people get from modding their car? Absolutely nothing, except having fun when they go to the track. Shooting guns is fun, me and my friends go once or twice a month. I feel absolutely great when I walk up to the target, and see that I hit it dead center a few times from 50 years on open sights, not to mention that feeling you get holding something this powerful in your hands. It's like getting into a car that has 500hp, you recognize the power. Unless you're into some lame **** like collecting leafs - all hobbies cost money, at least all mine do, do any of yours help you in your day to day life?

Is your range any bigger than 50yrds? At my former job, our rifle range was 100yrds (using open sights on the XM-15). I used to go shooting every week. Since I left there, I haven't fired a weapon since (coming up on 5 years now). I even have a browning 9mm I've acquired and never fired. Getting to the range is just a PITA for me now, I guess. It is a good way to clear your mind though. In college, I took "Rifles and Pistols" class (4x) whenever I had a hard semester, it was a good reliever from the frusterations of everyday.

Yeah, they have 100yd distance as well. For me that one is kinda pointless without the scope though, it's just too far to focus on with open sights. I'm not that advanced yet, haha. When I do the 50yd with the AK, I have at most a 6-7 inch spread. If I went 100 yards, I'd just be all over the place.
One of my buddies has a tricked out AR15 with a nice scope, now there's a sucker that's fun to shoot at 100 yards (which I'm sure you already know everything about). You could pick off a penny if you wanted to, makes you feel like dancing afterwards. :abovelol:

A scope is almost like cheating to me. It's definately fun to shoot, but unless you're at 1,000yrds, it makes things too easy.
I've personally never fired an AK. How's the accuracy on it compared to, lets say, the AR-15-type rifles?

I guess it really depends on the ammo it takes... The 7.63x39 that I have is the biggest caliber for the AKs that I know of, and kicks a whole lot harder than the 223s in my friend's AR, so I'm thinking it makes it a little less acurate - especially in the hands of a novice like me. When ever I shoot the AR on open sights at 50yd, I don't spread more than 3 inches. On the AK I'm at about 6, still a whole lot better from when I 1st started though. I can't even imagine shooting 1000 yards yet, you'd need something hell of a lot more powerful than I can handle right now. :abovelol:

Not many AKs are fitted for accuracy, they are a close range medium calibre weapon. At 50yrds a 6-7 inch spread is alright, but I get to shoot all the time so my opinion is biased. I agree with the sheer joy of a hobby and the power that you feel with something that powerful in your hands. When I was overseas each time I got into a fire fight with the enemy, that feeling you get from walking up to a target, multiply that by 1000 just knowing that the targets you are....well you know where this is going. Keep it up guns are kickass.

agreed, i have 3 expensive hobbies. Surfing - $500+ for a board (2-3 boards) , $250 for a wetsuit (2-3 wetsuits) , and then theres travel costs if you ever want to go to a different break than your local one. i've surfed east coast, west coast, canary islands, portugal... gets expensive
Snowboarding- $400 a board (at leat 2 boards) , $200 bindings (a set for each board) , $250 boots (one set every other season) , $600 for the freshest gear (jacket, pants, goggles, gloves, usually every other season) , Then theres lift tickets or a season pass (i get a free season pass to mountain creek NJ cuz im sponsored, but if i wanna go anywhere else its like $60-$70 a day not including gas and lodging about $300 a weekend.
last hobbie is modding the car which dont even get me started on how expensive the modding bug is. im really hungover and just realized how much i typed to get my point accross that expensive hobbies are ok and going to the rage and spending $600 on ammo could be worse.
i've personally never shot a gun before (not by choice) i plan on taking a small arms class before i ship out. some merchant shipping companies require merchant officers to take hand to hand combat classes as well as handgun lessons. gotta be able to protect that cargo from Pirates! dont laugh its true!

We used to pick up a case of 1000 for about $75 at the gun show. It's been a few years though.
We had an Egyptian made AK. Fun as hell to shoot. Put close to 5k rounds through it. If it had been cleaned, you couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Put 200 rds through it and and it got tight enough to be halfway accurate.

LOL @ Egyptian, I didnt even know they made a version.
Subz, Why was it so damn cheap? Have you fired any yet?
Hyunelan, AR > AK. The AK was never meant to be accurate. It was meant to fire quick,be cheaply made and be disposable. AR-15 is a whole other breed of gun. Kinda like comparing a M-16 to a SAW.

Good buy. I try to hit the range as well about once a month. I only shoot pistols, but I am working on saving up for something a little bigger. The cheapest place that I have found ammo for my 9mm is at Wal-Mart, so what I do is everytime I am in there, I pick up a box of ammo. So when it comes around to going to the range, I only have to pay for the targets and range fees.

Yeah but those AR's are very fragile when it comes to sand particles and such... requires lots of maintenance, i heard AK's are very low maint but i have never held one

AK's are super simple maintenance. There's very few moving parts, they are made to operate even after thousands of rounds and dirt. If I could only have one firearm and no time to clean it, it would be at the top of my list. AR's are nice and extremely accurate, but they're finicky.
We went to a machine gun shoot down south of Louisville. THe guys with the AK's were firing clip after clip after clip. 2-300 rounds at a time. No jams. The M-16 guys would fire 2 or three and then force out a jam and fire another couple, force out a jam and so on.

oh comon bob its not that bad... ive fired up to around 600-800 rounds without even using any cleaning or lube on the m-16...

OK, but try that after firing 5000 rds and tell me what kind of shape it's in.

LOL who fires 5000 rounds with a semi auto without maintenance anyways ;)
BobMs_wht2k2
03-02-2007, 04:34 PM
But that's my point. The AK was designed to survive abuse in conditions the M-16 would never survive.

As far as my observations, these were also the first generation plastic Mattels that WERE notorious for jamming. Not the nice M16A2's y'all use today.

True story.
I don't think I've every had the AK jam up on me yet, and I don't even clean it after every time we go.... My friend's AR, well, not so good.
I'll tell you this though. If I was to be thrown into a moist, raining, dirty jungle, AK would be my gun of choice 100%.
