View Full Version : Clutch time..what should I get?!?!?!?
Well a couple nights ago while doin some "sprinting" against my friends srt-4 my clutch started slipping bad when it got hot.I need some advise from my fellow F/I guys.I don't wanna get another XTD because this one can't hold what power I have now.I need brands and possibly links to these clutches :)
Thanks guys
BTW...Any clutch from a 01-06 Elantra will work in my Tibby

depends how much money your looking to spend. I got a spec stg3 clutch w/ a fidanza flywheel and it holds nicely
Just looking for a clutch kit.Im goin to send my flywheel out to get re-surfaced.Probably willing to spend up to 400 for a clutch kit
That spec kit looks nice and should hold the tq that im producing and what im looking to produce :)

Like I have told others, the ACT organic street disc is rated at 239 but it will hold more. My buddy with his turbo protege 5 had the same clutch kit and was putting down 270whp+. It held and continues to hold fine. I didnt want to deal with a puc'd disc this time so I went with the same kit as him. ACT has quality parts and good service.

Ismael, how much did you spend on your Clutch/Flywheel combo? what kind of clutch and where did you get it?

if it were me i'd go with an ACT but i like the pucked disc so i'd get a 6 puck.
I may go with the 6 puck stg 3 spec clutch

I got a fidanza lightweight flywheel and a spec stage 3 "plus" clutch, though I haven't installed it yet (doing it today though lol)

i've heard bad things about spec (not just from hyundai owners) so i'm weary of them.

clutch was $290 from a guy on NT. The fidanza I think I paid like $335 shipped, I'll have to double check that one though.

if you dont like puc.....boo hoo...learn to drive!!! hahah jfwy
the spec 3 is what i had on my tib and grips relatively hard...hell in toys car it holds very well for the numbers he is/was putting down...

ive had three in a row fail, 1st two were sent back to spec themselves before they would send me a replacement, both times they agreed it was build error and had nothing to do with abuse, or improper install. after the 3rd one failed, i gave up on them, and just bought a southbend DXD clutch. a bit over two years later, and still love this clutch.
ive owned act, southbend, clutchmasters, centerforce dual friction's and even a zoom. ive had good luck with them all cept the 3 SPEC clutch's.
my fav has to be the southbend (and it was the cheapest surprisingly) followed by the dual friction centerforce.

That sounds about right to me. Not cheap but well worth it if you ask me, especially the flywheel!
