ummm not sure but I think I saw something close to that here in Michigan. I know it was the same maker just not sure if it was the same car. I kinda like it from the rear but not too sure about that nose, I also love the emblem.

Every now and then I see a Peugeot or a Renault or a VW that they don't sell in the states. New and old.

There are thousands of diplomats in the DC area and generally they are the ones that have the cars from Europe/South America/wherever that they don't sell here.

Looks like a Focus and a Golf got into a crazy accident and formed a new breed. So... may be fast, but don't expect it to last over 100K, LOL!

Yeah, what Felix said... The car just has to meet Transport Canada regulations (Quebec has their own stricter regulations too e.g. mandatory DRLs...)
Unfortunately, something like the Mitsubishi Evo's can't be imported cuz the intercooler doesn't meet the crash-test standard, but I see Scions here all the time.
But I'd love some European imports... Peugeot, Vauxhall VRX series cars.

hum ...

Residents of Canada cannot normally import a car from overseas countries unless it is at least 15 years old. The relatively few exceptions to this rule can be found in CCRA publications.

and that's from Transport Canada website :

The Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Regulations require that all vehicles imported into Canada comply, at the time of importation, with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in effect on the date the vehicle was manufactured. Vehicles manufactured for sale in countries other than Canada and the United States do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, CANNOT be altered to comply and CANNOT be imported into Canada. The only exceptions to this rule are vehicles fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured and buses manufactured before January 1, 1971.

So as I said, the car must be 15yrs old or more to be imported, minus some exceptions!

I see a newer model Alfa Romeo here in my neighborhood every week or so. I assume it's some kind of a gray market thing. Beautiful car, except for the color. It's kind of a mint green metallic.

I guess we were all a little wrong. You can still import MOST US cars under 15 years old with a few exceptions, you just missed mentioning the OVERSEAS part.
Thanks for clarifying!

How would he get parts & service if there are no dealers here? Seems like that would take a lot of the fun out of owning a car that isn't sold here.

As long as they can meet emissions requirements I think it's just how much money are you willing to spend in transporting it here. There may be duties involved too I'm sure.

Heh, it's kinda funny for me to look at posts about Peugeot being strange to see since we get those all the time here... But we also have stupid laws, so among other you can't import a Mustang GT here, or register it, etc. Did you see the Peugeot 207? That one's like a kid brother for the 307, not a bad car yet cheaper.

My aunt used to have a renault alliance.. (i think thats what model it was). Anyway, is was a renault and it was sold here. Think it was back in the early 80's that they were sold here. At that point they were garbage. According to the latest episodes of "top gear", not much has changed and the peugot isn't much better.

I used to have a Renault Encore, the hatchback version of the alliance. You are so right - it truly was garbage. I only kept it 7 months.

The Alliance and Encore were built here, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, at the old AMC plant.

I was just about to say that. When I was on a cruise down near Mexico I happened to see some commercials for a Peugeot and then I saw a few when we got off the ship.

There have been rumors in the Automotive industry (and particularly since the Renault-Nissan alliance) that Peugeot would return to the U.S. sometime before 2010.

Considering Nissan's extensive dealer network in the U.S., I really really would not be surprised at some point before 2010 to see Peugeot return to the U.S. and be dualed with Nissan dealers in some areas in the next few years.

The license plate number you see on that vehicle in the picture is a New Jersey Manufacturer's tag (DTM designates a Manufacturer plate for NJ), meaning the vehicle would have to be registered to either Nissan-Peugeot. It could also potentially be registered to a competitive brand that is testing the car, but...considering the fact that I have seen a couple (a silver and a red one) floating around the Detroit area...I suspect the car is undergoing U.S. certification testing.

Also, given the fact that the car is Left Hand drive...this car is here for long term testing....

Just a bit of info....

Peace,

Chill

Ummm... Peugeot and Renault are two seperate companies. Nissan has connections to Renault, but not to Peugeot.

Also, any French made car should be left hand drive unless it was specifically built to be sold in the UK.

I was going to say it looks kind of like a Versa

http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/7/L/S/2007_Nissan_Versa.jpg

They were trying to sell me a Versa when I bought my XD and I was complaining about it being the first model year of the car. They said is had been sold in Europe for years as a Peugeot. I did not believe them.

Once again, Peugeot and Renault are not connected except that they are both based in France. Renault has a stake in Nissan. If they told you the Versa was a Peugeot, they were handing you a line.

^^^ I think this solidifies your argument: http://edition.cnn.com/2001/BUSINESS/07/26/peugeot/index.html

At any rate, French cars are s|-|it. I had a 1981 Renault 18i, and it was a laughably bad car. I knew someone with a LeCar, and that was just as bad.

Yeah there is nothing nissan about the versa it has the badges. Other than that it is a Renault Clio model. go to renaults website to check it out. I would actually like to see the brand Seat bring some cars over. They are stylish and share some of there motors with VW like the 2.0T. Here is the newly designed 07 Leon Cupra by Seat

Yep, that Seat is a really nice car, and it gets 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. There was a live test here some while ago, and they really beat that car, yet max consumption was 20l/100km (sorry, but I'm European ;) ). It handles really nice, so now they're thinking about starting a Cupra cup here in Croatia.

wtf is that?

and PS is the seat legal in the US?

TheKoreanSaab

I found out that the MG was only Sold in Great Britain but could be bought for around $87k. So it never seen outside of the UK. If you had $87k I am sure you wouldnt buy a MG that you would have to send to the UK everytime you wanted it serviced.

TheKoreanSaab

Seats are not legal in the U.S. without the right documents.

The picture is of the MG X-Power SV.....I found out they made a SV-R

A weird thing I just found out about this car is that Qvale developed the X-Power SV. MG bought Qvale. If you dont know who Qvale is, he was the partner of De Tomaso the creator of the super badass Pantera sports car. De Tomaso became Qvale over time do to De Tomaso Financial troubles. Here is the Pantera to drool over.
