Could this be what we've all been waiting for?
The Seoul Motor Show, scheduled to open on April 5, will unveil 20 new cars, the motor show organizing committee said yesterday.
Hyundai Motor Co.'s compact concept coupe HND-3 and Ssangyong Motor Co.'s D130, which will replace the Kyron sport-utility vehicle, will make their world debut at the Korea International Exhibition Center, Ilsan, on the northwestern outskirts of Seoul.
The Audi S5, Ford's new Mondeo, the Peugeot 407HDi coupe, BMW's Hydrogen 7 and its new X5 3.0d will all be uncovered for the first time in Asia, while another 13 models will make their Korean debut.
"Twelve concept cars of Korean automakers and five foreign makes will be showcased at the Seoul Motor Show," the organizing committee said yesterday in a D-30 press conference. "Three eco-friendly vehicles built by Korean carmakers and four by foreign ones will also be there."
The committee expects the biennial show to generate an economic effect worth 800 billion won via attracting 8,000 foreign buyers, $1 billion in exports, job growth, and other benefits.
"The sixth Seoul Motor Show will be the largest ever with over 1 million people visiting and we will continue efforts to make it one of the world's five major motor shows," said Hur Moon, head of the organizing committee.
The 2005 Seoul Motor Show lured a million visitors, mostly Koreans, as it overlapped with the Shanghai Motor Show. This year, the 11-day Seoul Motor Show is to be held from April 5, ahead of the Shanghai Motor Show slated to begin on April 20, but coinciding with the Easter holidays.
A total of 186 companies from 10 countries (120 from Korea) plan to take part in the sixth Seoul Motor Show held under the theme "Creation of the Imagination - A New World is Coming!"
