Ok, so i'm looking to install a new head unit in an '03 Elantra. I currently have a cassette player in the car, but it's been acting up and I'm looking to step up to a CD player anyway. Now I'm looking at getting a stock CD Player, preferrably brand new. Could you guys help me out on a few questions i got.....
First, i found this link for removal of a dash, does it pertain to my year car or is their some differences?
http://www.elantraxd.com/DIY/dashremoval.php

Second, the head unit. How do i know which Hyundai CD Players will work for my car? Is it known that CD Player from certain years and makes will work in my '03 Elantra? Example I was reading somewhere that some Sante Fe headunits even work in an Elantra. And there is a few years of Elantras that work with each other as far as swapping head units. Could someone clear this up for me?
I was looking at this '04 Elantra CD Player for my car, would it work in my '03?

Last, is their anything i need to know for when i do the swap? Basically, when i remove the dash and tape player, then i plug in the cd player, will it work without any other needed steps? Theft codes, etc..?

Also open to any other links or advice on where i could purchase a Hyundai CD Player. As well, is their a CD/Tape Hyundai headunit that would fit in my car?

Thanks alot for any and all answers to these questions!

My first question is: Why do you want a stock hyundai CD player??

2nd: I dont trust egay myself and from the quick search i just did.. NEW players are like $600 or more.. If you have that kind of money to spend I'd get a kick a$$ after market one w/ all kinds of goodies!!!

3rd: Do you plan to upgrade any of your audio system.. i.e. put in a subwoofer??

Taking the dash fascia off is easy. Follow that DIY and you'll be set.

Second, many many many of the Hyundai CD players work, but you should be able to get an Elantra one for pretty cheap ($50 or less) from here or eBay.

First, thanks for the replies but i'm not getting any answers here.
CDBryso:
That's just what i want, don't want an aftermarket headunit. As for my searching on this, i can get a new cd player from hyundai for $200, not $600(hence the $75 on ebay seemed like a good buy if it would fit my car). And last, no plans on subwoofers, etc..... i'm pretty sure I know where you were going with that last comment but no, i'm not adding anything else to the car so there is no need for outputs, more power, etc...
Mobius1:
Thanks for the offer, I'll keep you in mind. So with that offer your saying an '02 radio fits the '03?
SuperGLS:
Thanks for the help, I'm confident in getting the dash off as I've done this many a times in the past with my vehicles, I just wanted to know if that image was of an '03 elantra, or if whatever car it was, if it was the same setup as an '03. Now as you said and as I have read, many cd players from Hyundai's will work, but my main question about it all is how do i know which ones will work? Is there a way to tell or find out which specific ones work? I don't wanna just bid or buy a headunit out of another year Elantra, or say a Sante Fe(I've heard they match up to Elantras) and just hope it fits in my cars brackets, harness, etc...

Yeah, definitely all of the 01-03 CD player works and the same with the 04-06 Elantra radios. I know the 00-05 Accent ones fit as well (although their color is a little different).

I'm fairly sure that all of the Hyundai Single DIN units works. But you'll be able to find an Elantra one with no problem so go with that.

And yes, the dash in the DIY is an 01-03 model.

Since you're taking it out and want OEM stuff, add in that CD-Changer-to-Aux-In adapter someone sells on eBay. It plugs into the back of the HU (where a KDM CD changer went) and gives you plain RCA outputs so you can (w/ $8 adapter) plug your MP3 player in. It's invisible but convenient.

Thanks! So '01 thru '06 Elantras are a go, perfect. Now just plug and play or is their some kind of theft code issue? Only once in my searches did i see someone comment about getting a theft code from dealer but they didn't explain the details on that too well nor did I know if this was true for any swap.

Lastly, is their a double din cd/tape player by Hyundai that would fit the '03 Elantra? If so, from what cars?

Ok, i found a stock cd player for sale but it doesn't have the brackets on the sides that attach it to the dash. When I remove my tape player, can the brackets on the side of the tape player be removed and placed on the sides of the cd player? And it would work/fit the way it should without modification? Thanks in advance!

The newer Hyundai players have a security code. You need to enter it on first power-up. Doing that is pretty easy and straight-forward.

The code is for the player so it doesn't matter if you swap it between vehicles or power it up independantly. It just needs to be entered before it'll play anything. So if you get a unit from someone, make sure they give you the code too!

I'm pretty sure all Hyundai's from 2000 on share the same audio connector so they'll plug into the factory harness.

By the way, if you're interested I've got a Hyundai MP3-02 unit to sell. That's a CD/MP3/WMA player with AM/FM radio. Single DIN. Only a couple of months old.

The other problem you *might* run into are the clips which hold the audio unit in place. They require release tools to make them un-clip.
