I found a 500 dollar Accent on craigslist today after a few folks suggested on another thread that I should get a secondary car to modify so my daily driver can remain my daily driver.

2001 Accent needs paint and body work. Motor has a miss and the inside needs to cleaned. It has 89000 miles and does run and drive. I have title for car.
Call me to see

I am interested but am making the assumption that a miss on a cylinder is repairable by an amateur such as myself. I will have to search but in the mean time what say you sages of the internet about an 01 for 500 with 89k miles

Accent motors are cheap if you need to replace it. and for that price, its a good deal.

Forgive my ignorance is the engine a beta1?

no...but if you put a beta in it, it could be one fast little car.

I'd get it no thinking... $500 is a good price for it, since it's not too beat up, and the engine isn't totally ruined.

Given the choice, though, I would go for a hatch; they look sportier. I understand you don't really have a choice though. Other than that, yeah, it's prolly worth $500. You may be able to spend just a little more (still less than $1000) and get something that doesn't run rough. I sold my Aspire a year and a half ago for $600 to the son of a guy I work with. Last time I asked, all the kid has done is put new tires on it (they were bad when I sold it) and change the oil. Still nothing wrong with the car.

So..... yeah, it's not bad but you *might* be able to do better.

Good price.. especially for the condition.

Almost too good.

to good...i wouldn't. that is a fairly new car. why does it need pain? did he come near to totaling it...you never know. my wife did 12,000 in damage to my tib and they fixed it. but it wasn't fixed quite right.
remember, a 4,000 dollar car will need about 4,000 to get it in really good shape. it gets worse from there.

buy an old rd tib, or an old XD. you can get them cheap if you look. My advice, screw the car that needs a new motor and 4 grand just to get it in good shape, and even more to mod it. better advice, don't buy an accent. there is a reason more people tune tibs and elantras. they are just a better starting platform

either that, or make the accent your daily driver, and tune the elantra.

cleaned on the inside??? maybe it went through a flood. It may be a good car, don't get me wrong. But you are new to this, take one of us with you. that way he won't beat you up and play a game. safety in numbers. if you get one of us to start questioning things, remembering that it's not us buying and we will not be biased, then he might even break down and give up information.

it was in an accident. look at the quarter panel. i don't agree with him tho ^. accent + beta swap = one fun little car. accents are cheap. i found an 02 hatch 5speed for 2300 inspected with 100k on it a little while ago. not a damned thing wrong with it

I agree. I'd rather have a GS (again) but the GLS will work for a Beta swap and nitrous project.

And if you can afford it then go for it.

If I had to buy a car again I would probably buy a new accent. Accents are stupid fun without any mods and plenty quick for legal driving (if you get a manual). Logging roads? no problem. Gravel tracks? no problem. Freeways? no problem. Tight turning mountain roads? no problem.

That 2003 Accent GT was probably the most fun I've ever had in a car.

I also got a number of speeding tickets in that car.. not the V8 Pontiac or the Elantra.. but the Accent.. so many tickets.. You just didn't realize how fast you were whipping through traffic..

I shore do miss my nightmare mo-sheen.

So in short, you could do worse than an Accent, either as a modder or as a daily driver.

You are right, back then it was. My bad, GLS is the four door now.
