Hey, I'm kinda new here and was wondering I you all could give me a hand. I have a friend who is selling me a JL package that he purchaed for his Mustang, custom everything. He's willing to sell it to me for around 900. Normally custom boxes would be a problem, however my uncle is a carpenter and could make adjustments to fit my 07 Elantra.
Includes:
1 500/1 Amp (http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__JL_Audio_JL_Audio_500_1,__21528097/search=jl+store/skd=1) + Unopened Wires and Control Knob
2 12W3v2 Subs (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=1137185/search=jl+store/skd=1) + Tested Boxes at 98% Potential
This doesnt include installation which would come to about $150ish
All in all, my spending would come to about $1100, hopefully. I was wondering how 07 Elantra's handle Subs, incase anyone has tried it. And if i put 2 12's in would it really be worth it (maybe overkill?). Any comments/help would be appreciated!

i think the wiring up of a sub to stock hu won't be too bad on the 07 but if u add a new hu it gets complicated because of some computer regulated stuff in the 07.
not sure on the elantra 07, but i've got an 05 with a 12" and its loud and still have space. my friend had two 12" and he down graded to one 12" because of space. with the JL setup I think one 12" would suffice esp if u can custom a box to perfectly fit.
12w3v2's are goin on ebay for 135 buy it now from dealers, you could get a box for cheap. a custom box for a mustang isnt going to fit the elantra, your prolly have to mod it pretty good, depending it might be easier to make a new one..
the jl 500/1s are goin just around and slightly over 300, so i bet you could get everything for 700 bought new..
and i duno i think some name brand amps are over-rated. i mean the amp is rated at 500x1 and puts out more then that.. but yo u can get a nice 1000w rms amp for even cheaper. you pay for the name and yes.. they are good amps with great clarity etc.. but im just sayin there are other good ones out there that are cheaper.
i bet you could find a box local somewhere for ~60-80
get 1 jl 12 for 160 after shipping and a decent amp for it for around 200ish.
so you could have a nice setup for just over 400.. or add another sub and bigger dual sub box for around another 200..
so either way your gettin away well under 1100..
theres a cusom box place down the street from my place that will do a simple custom box install for like 200 depending on the complexity.. so even that can be had cfor cheap.. that is providing your not doing a show vehicle or nothin..

thats all solid equipment that will outperform the setup you previously explained. especially the diamond d6's with a kicker 1200.

I had 1 JL 12 w3 in my 04, and it was too much for me. Now, I don't like it when the bass overrides the rest of the speakers, but that's me.
However, with that said, the JL's are some of the best speakers out there. I would go for it and then sell what you don't use.

I have a sub in my 07 HD Elantra SE. I have the stock deck, did not want to fool with the steering wheel remote controls or the CAN line for the speed sensitive volume control on the HD's stock radio. I also hate the look of the face kits out there (they look like **** to me), because the DIN sized deck don't fit the holes in the facia like I want them to.
I used an line converter for the rear speaker outputs on the stock deck for my amp and used the aux power outlet for power for the amp remote (again, not willing to fool with the power lines to the stock deck).
What I suggest people with the HD do is remove and replace the negative battery cable with a better cable and add a second cable that goes from the point where the negative battery cable attaches to the inner fender to the engine/trans. This will let the alternator and ground system to operate better.
crazyviet you still around and followin up? or were you a 1 post and ditch us kinda guy? :D

Ah thanks for all your help guys. Sorry there was a death in my family and since most of my family is in CA I had to go across the US.
ill do a little more research on ebay and see what i could get away with.
Luckly, my uncle in NC is a carpenter so ill ask him if he knows anything in this department.
I have a friend that put together a set for 400 with 2 Alpine 10's and its pretty nice. But.. his dad was funding him, im not that lucky.

Ah! Sorry everyone, I recently had a death in the family and since most of my family is from the West Coast I had to make a long flight out.
Thanks for all the advice, I'll definently check out Ebay for prices. I actually have another friend and her brother had 2 JL 10s for his Camry so I'll ask her what he's thinking about selling for. I'm hoping to stay under or close to 1000.
The non-name brand amps caught my eye. I'll definently look into that.
