I am finally putting my subs/amp in my XD2. I got a schoshe wiring kit 4 guage with a CAP for $80 from walmart. I would recommend going there if anybody needs a wiring kit. they also have a 5 guage kit for $32. I have used them in the past and they are not the best, but they are the best value. I have 3 Memphis ten inch subs in a custom pine box. No carpet, just stain. I am not planning on putting all three in right now because I would like to keep my trunk space. I took my sweet time yesterday pulling the power wire back to the trunk. I want this to be as near to perfect as possible. I will post pics of the system after work hopefully, it will not be done, but you will be able to see what I am working with. I wish I had access to a garage working in the street kinda sucks. right after I decided not to finish yesterday I went inside and watched the news. Rain all day today. cripes that sucks. there are a few buildings in the area with covered parking that I can use untill someone comes along and kicks me out.

i hear ya, i agot no garage access either. i do it all on the street and it really sucks due to time restraints (gettin dark and weather). Also i hate flaunting the amount of crap in my car to the whole neiborhood and anyone who drives by. i try to keep the trunk closed as much as i can and work from the back cause i hate people seein my subs and amps and cap etc. heh, im prolly just paranoid, but i had my amp/speakers jacked a few years back. LUCKILY it was just 6x9s and a small amp, i didnt put in the subs cause i ran outa time.. LUCKY THING i guess!

so yeah post up what you got, i love checkin out other installs. I will be re-doin my system this summer. Possibly sellin some decent stuff 2, well see.

and yeah ive used those install kits, never bought from wal-mart but im sure the kit is the same as the ones i got online. they are a good price online and they work just fine. The only time i go name-brand and realy low gauge is when im over 1k watts. other then that i usuallly go with whatever is cheap. ive actualy used electrition wire from lowes/home depot and even radioshack power wire in a clutch situation. (neither is recomended but both did work without issues)

here is the system. The single is going into the XD for now. I did not get to it today. Hopefully tomorrow will not be too crappy out. I do not know if anybody else here has had experience with memphis, but they are insane. All of my friends have kicker comp vr 12's, but I think these tens sound nicer.

Are those subs enclosed in a kitchen cupboard?

OMG!!!!

that is all i will say...

ok...no wait...why not MDF?? that is what is supposed to be use for sub enclosures...especially if your are putting any power to it...hell the speaker box is going to rattle never mind the trunk!

mephis is ok...but not for clarity

I got the box with the subs used a few years ago. This box is solid. my only gripe is it is really heavy especially with all three subs.

I would love to buy one of their amps, but the one I would want is way too expensive for me.

I finished the install. It sounds ok. Not loud enough yet. Ill probably throw the other two in this week sometime...I will need a new amp soon, the one I have should really not be used with three subs.

when i was in savanna georgia memphis was EVERYWHERE!
couse there were car audio places like ever few miles in just about every direction two! lol -but everyone had memphis, they were huge.. i heard them compared to a buncha other stuff and i felt the same about them as i go audiobahns better line. they are super loud and sounds pretty decent, but not the greatest for a sq install. Course i heard them all in prefab boxes two. if you stuffed em into a 1cf sealed box they might regain some of the sq, course at a loss of spl.. -but my audiobahn excursions sound 100x better in my custom boxes that are .8cf. i made the box so i could upgrade to diamons, but the audiobahns sounded so much better in em that i havnt made the switch just yet.. hehe

alot of ppl i compete with run memphis amps. nice power and dont usually burn up when burping. and the box..... id make a new one out of 1/2" mdf at least. or make sure that box is totally sealed up (cracks). is that a sealed or vented/ported box? ill end the 21 questions here. lol

I have had much better experiences with sealed boxes. when I build boxes I usually use 3/4 MDF with gorilla glue at the joints. The next time we there is a meet in my area, I will put the three in the pine box so it can be heard. It sounds great.

glue wouldnt stand up alone in my box, lol. ive got about 4 tubes of contractors liquid nailz and about 200-2" wood screwws placed about 2.5" apart from each other. another tip is NOT to use a speaker wire terminal thing on the box. just drill a small hole and run the wire from there. 1 more less place air can escape.

i have no air escape from my speaker terminals. however they are now unremoveable, and the wire on the inside is permanently connected to them also :D -i used less silicone and glue when helping a friend redo a tub, sink, and counter haha. that box is AIR FREAKIN TIGHT

i also screw every 2-2.5 inches along with a ton if silicone and glue
i wanted to just use glue so i could use it the day after, but i decided to use the silicone and do it right and just let it air out for a few days. it was hard to wait, but i managed hehe

ugzz..what i meant, was using speaker terminal things are a bad idea. air WILL leak out in one way or another. they are not totally sealed. you dont need to worry about it if just for daily driving and not competing. 1db could be a 1st place or a 2nd place. man, do i need to start competing again this summer. new deck, re-tweaking the amp, more battery power, and the other tricks ive picked up along the way might net me more wins and another invite to the USACI world bass finals in st.louis this year.

i know what you are sayin, im just saying that mine do not and will not leak. they LITERALLY have more then a FULL inch of rock solid wood glue covering the connector, terminal, and wire 100%. i can never change the wire or take out the terminal, in fact i cant really change anything with those boxes except take out the subs and drop in new.

Also the terminals on the rear are not perfect becuase of all the glue inside. You basically have to pull them apart manually and reconnect them with a tool. But they are very solid and make a good connection. Its difficult to describe in detail the whole ordel. but if you look in the box you just see the wires do what looks like go right out the back, but in reality they go into an inch of glue i used as a sealent and are soldiered to the terminals inside the glue. i hooked up my 12 and ran the amp at max with the sub doing a full excursion for about 10 min and i couldnt find a single leak, not even a tiny one. Then i was still worried about it so i checked it again after a few weeks and the same thing.

im not saying what i did was smart or even that good at all, but it was functional and is totally sealed and i do have termals on the boxes which is kinda nice, but all in all i do wish i just ran it out the back like you recommended just because it lowered the quality of the box with all the glue and when i describe the install/construction it just sounds ghetto as hell..
