Started "renovating" my hatch space this past Saturday. The toughest part was wraping the box in vinyl. I ended up wrapping it like a christmas present...lol I took out the old cardboard mat that was in there. My wife left a gallon of green tea and a sack of flour with some mdf boards in the back. You can imagine what came of that. So some of the crap you see in the edges is that mixture. The floor is 2 pieces of 1/2in mdf. The Sub is Boston Acoustics G5-10 single 4ohm voice coil with a GTR tunable radiator. The amp is a Boston GT-24. I am still trying to figure out what to do with the amp because there is another sub setup that I am ordering in a few weeks. I was thinking about building a wall on the left or right side and flush mounting the amp. Any ideas would be helpful.

Do those subs hit right in that tight amount of space? Looks like it may sound distorted. Is that what you need another setup for?

The sound is super clear and they hit hard. The recommended enclosure volume is .5 c.u.f.t. I want another sub to make good use of the amp. I am pushing 550 watts into that sub which is rated at 450w at 4ohm. I will be running 900 into 2 subs running parallel at 2ohms. That is why just to make the amp more efficient. I am very impressed with the sound. I have friends running multiple subs in their applications, they can't believe it is ONE sub. It gets real low with rap and bass cds and it hits hard when I listen to metal and hardcore. Here is a link to the sub... http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/car_product.aspx?category_id=17&family_id=106&product_id=301

Umm... i see two subs... but you only have one currently running? If that's the case you may get problems when you have them both fired up in the same box. or you may not.. but i think that's what Bdiggy was talking about.

I'll be running 2 boxes like the one on the right. The sub you see on the front of the box is the actual sub. The sub you see on top of the box is a Passive Radiator. I'll be running 2 boxes, setup the same.

even with a passive radiator i think that box is still rather small

i know that with my diamond audio sub...just a single M6 titanium...the box is tiny for the amount of wattage i'm putting into it...and it sounds rediculously clean! some companies..usually higher end stuff will actually vary box size to amount of watts being put into it...my sub as a watts scale from 200-800 and the box gets smaller with more watts. mine just pretty much covers teh magnet

i dont get the passive thing though...why is that there??

my next subs are either diamond or boston, i built my sub boxes to the diamong spec of .8cf not counting the magnet, so it will actually be less space when the sub is installed. i think thats what the d6's call for if im remembering correctly. funny thing is my audiobahn excursions sounded 100x better in the .8cf sealed enclosure that i havnt switched em out yet and its been months... im sure there just better cuz audiobahns are all about loud and not quality, but now that they are stuffed in such a tiny sealed box they hit way faster. definitly a loss of the loud though, but thats cool casue im done with that defening stuff anyway :P

anyway, i love bostons, only heard em like twice and im hooked. same with diamonds, i never see em, but when i do i get blown away!

ive never seen/heard a passive radiator setup before though.. if you pull the radiator and seal the box i wonder how different the sound is.. id love to hear it sometime.. but tx aint exactly down teh street!

and for as clean as your hatch is im seeing either a side mount of a false floor for that amp.. i think a shelf might clutter.. but thats just me

i have the boston 12.5 and its in a 1 cubic foot box, the boston series woofer dont need much space. I agree that the boston can hit hard cause mine running on a alpine mrv-300 rocks hard. and i have a single 12 that is 2 ohms.

The recommended space for tha sun is .5 cuft. It is tiny. The purpose for the passive radiator is to act as a port without the port noise. It can be tuned to 3 different Hz settings by adding or removing weight. I have tested this sun in a sealed enclosure and the deep low bass was good but I lost a lot of the hard hitting bass. With the radiator I have both with a lot more sound. It's almost like having 2 subs but in a small space. I recommend this setup to anyone.

Haha! That would f me up too. No matter how many times I type out sub it always gives me sun. I guess I should learn to proofread. Or maybe not make posts using my phone.

those are long posts for a phone.. i hope you have a qwerty phone pad!

but back on topic do you have any clue what yer doin with that amp yet? i still say false floor or just side mount it somewhere (doesnt look that easy casue its pretty big)

mount the amp on the back seat. nice, out the way and leaves the rest of the trunk floor open.

and i havent seen a "radiator" since high school. what ever floats your boat. :)

luckily most of the wires go in on the sides and not the ends. so it looks like 2loud might have a point. it may fit right on the rear right side of the seat. id size it up and see what you got. i was gonna put both my amps there, but since they both have their connectors on the ends they were just slightly two big to mount them both on the seats.

My phone is a Blackberry Pearl. Which I use to access forums when I'm at work or at the pool hall. Right now I'm at home.

I may mount the amp to the back of the seat, I need to figure that one out. I would like to mount the amps to the floor with plexi over them but I need the floor to be functional to have access to the spare, I haven't used the spare but once, but knowing my luck, the minute I can't get to it is the minute I need it.

I made two boxes, one with the top sealed and the other with the radiator and there is a huge difference in sound. The sealed box hit good with lows and real bassy songs but couldn't deliver with the pounding bass drums in metal songs. I put in the box with the radiator and I get the best of both worlds and now even louder.

I am ordering another sub and another radiator to go with this current setup. Next year when I can order again, since this is thru a dealer accommodation program, I'll get the same setup and add it to this one. So come next March I'll have 4 subs and four radiators. I"ll also get the SPZ series components. I get a hella discount with this program. More than you would expect.

Sorry to chime back in so late, but yeah, thought you had 2 subs running there. Understand it now though.
