Hey guys first time I've posted on here but I have a quick question. . .I recently aquired another set of subs with an amp and I've put it in my 03 Elantra GT. Now everything is hooked up but my main power wire is half *** installed right now. I don't see a good place to feed it through the firewall, just curious if anyone could assist me with this dilemma.
BTW, I acquired 2 Audiobahn Ultra Excursion 12"s, a 1200x2 watt Power Acoustik Area 51 amp, a Rockford Cap, and a fused distribution block with a digital voltage display. A JVC Head Unit, and 2 Pioneer 6x9's for $175 almost new. I already have a Jensen head unit in my elantra so I'm using it as it is much better than the JVC and all that is actually going in is the subs, amp, cap, and d-block. I am going to fix it all up this weekend and make it a very clean install by sinking the amp, cap, and d-block into a nice carpeted false wall, if all goes like I have it planned in my head it should be a sharp install. (I will post pic's) TIA

Here's another alternative: If you remove the left fender splash guard (the plastic liner in the fender), you can route wires along the main harness routing that goes from the engine compartment fuse box area to the passenger compartment. Note that besides the main harness opening, there are a couple rubber grommets that go into the passenger compartment.

Here's a DIY (http://www.dfwhyundais.com/diy/FogLights/DIY-FogLights.html#Section1i) showing how to use this routing from my fog light DIY.

^^^
The first thing I did when I rebuilt my car was put 4 wires through that grommet for future use.....used 2 for my remote start......the other two not used yet.....I think this is the best place to run wires through.

lol....considering that's where they run all the computer, abs, headlights, foglights, sensor, fuse.....pretty much all the wires into the engine bay...I think it makes perfect sense:rolleyes:

It's also Hyundai Motor Corporation's opinion, and look how many cars they sell a year. ;)
i like the firewall approach, i wanted to make sure i could get 0g wire through for a down the line upgrade so i just had mine drilled. it was super easy you just have to be carefull about the hole placement so you dont hit anything.
did anyone use the diy for firewall and fit a beefy gauge wire? if so let me know, also pics would be great.

I have done the DIY from carbonman with 2awg, its not bad, i have also more then a couple that are there such as boost gauge vacuum line, egt wires, etc etc

when you bolt the black cover back on, does it still seal ok?
thats one thing i was worried about
also how clean does it look?
and lastly i wasnt sure if 0g was fitting in that gromit.
and thats why i just had it drilled. im sure i coud have asked more questions here, but sometimes when you want something badly you just sort of impulse it heh.

First time a ran my amp power wire i went through the firewall and it was a PITA. now that i have my strut bar blocking access i couldnt do it so i tried the inner wheel well. SO MUCH BETTER. i took the wheel off and the inner plastic. The grommet was right there, and it comes through right by the dead pedal. Thats how i ran the wires for my ground effects. its not about which is better, its about which is easier for each individual. its easier for me to throw it on the lift, pull the wheel and work in front of my face rather than removing the strut bar and reach behind the block stretching to reach things.

It's even easier to relocate the battery and only have to run wires through there once. ;)
Speaking of which, I should do that.

What about those with sunroofs and unable to use that smaller grommet in the wheel well, then what? I need to run power wires through, but i have a sunroof.
Thanks,

well i know you may not look forward to it, but you could always drill through the firewall itself.
I figure if you have anything 2gauge or higher guage this should be doable.
Look in your engine bay and on the right see where there is a grommet that leads underneath the plastic covers that house the motors for the wipers.
Feed the power through there, remove the plastic by popping off the snaps and w/e else there is on the weatherstripping first. then lift and slide those out.
Now about 18 inches from the driverside of the car drill a hole and feed your wire through. Just keep pushing it and it will appear behind your brake pedal.
When drilling, you will likely have a little trouble b/c the arms for the wipers get it the way. if they dont, you are drilling in the wrong spot.
Just get that cover off and use common sense if all else fails. Good Luck

i just drilled through the firewall itself, always have done it that way. never had a single problem with it, but as stated above its personal preference.
all my cars and installs have gone through the firewall itself, was able to feed through a factory gromit on the 88 olds and the 89 s10s i did though. it sure was NICE not having to drill out a new hole though.. not that its that hard either..

all my wires thru the firewall. yeah its a mess now, but i organized everything and put grommets in (cant see from this pic). 0ga power wire, remote amp wire, power wire for 12 item fuse panel, nitrous wires.

wires ran down the side of the door jambs.

I seriously wouldn't thrust the fender solution, I have tons of electric problems right now and it's all in the fenders wires, I plan on doing a relocation of all those wires in the firewall.
And that problem is common after quite some time, at the junkyard I go, 4 J2 out of 5 have those wires missing, meaning someone needed it ... that's on more than 25 J2 ... and I'm not exaggerating.
