View Full Version : Alarm won't chirp/honk anymore...

I had an accident last year, and ever since then my alarm won't chirp or honk anymore when I arm it (I forget which it used to do.) It's still under warranty, so either the dealer or the company that repaired the car after the accident would probably fix it for free, but I live at least 60 miles away from the nearest dealer, so I was wondering if anyone here might have an idea of what I can check to see if I can fix it myself...

Thanks,

Jonny

It's not warranty because you had a accident. It's more than likely the hood switch or the rubber bumper on the hood .Look on the pass side near the strut tower

^^ took me almost a year to realize it was that. Like 05xd said, the rubber stopper isn't pushing the switch down all the say..same exact thing happened when I got in a wreck.

Here's a picture of where it is on 05xd's old car..circled in blue.

XD's don't have the "honk when armed" feature.

Let me clarify... the *car* is under warranty. Therefore, if the issue that has caused the car not to chirp anymore is not accident related, the warranty will take care of it. If it is accident related, the company that fixed it will take care of it, since I have a "lifetime" repair agreement through my insurance company. =)

However, you are one smart cookie, and that was indeed the issue. The rubber bumper on the hood is missing, and there's just a little hole there where the hood switch goes through instead of engaging.

So, now the question is, do I go to the Hyundai dealer and pay for the rubber bumper, or do I go MacGyver on it... =)

(And thanks for the pic, Munky)

I MacGyvered it, myself. But that's because I really don't care.

My rubber piece is still on there, it's about a centimeter away from touching the switch though, due to the curvature of my hood. That's why I had to rig mine.

If your pins are all active, the alarm will chirp only when you press the lock button twice within four seconds. If you don't get that chirp, then you know a pin is not aligned or a door is ajar.

Wait.... how can a door be a jar? Two entirely different things!!!

actually that chirp is telling you that some features are disabled when you hear it. pushing it once enables the locks and when you try to manually open the door the alarm goes off. when you hear it chirp, it disables that alarm... or so ive heard a few years ago in a thread

of course i could be wrong as usual and wont hold much stock in what i say... i think im the only senial 20 year old

When you push it once, it locks and the lights flash.

When you push it twice in a 4 second period, the lights blink, and it chirps, letting you know the alarm is armed.

You're right about one thing ... you're wrong. The second push of the lock button only flashes the lights and gives and audible warning (chirp) that the alarm is set (or not if there is no sound).

Munky and I have it right ...

We already covered that in this thread, only the XD2's beep/chirp when the alarm is armed, the XD's ONLY have the visual indicator. (Flashing lights)
