I will be installing the kit, my clutch kit, and my dad will be installing the pistons when they come in...
The intercooler / injectors / safe gaurd system / section of pipe w/bov should be coming in soon, Bill wanted to ship the intercooler seperate from the turbo and piping due to damage that could occur... now they are waiting on the bov to come in to ship whats left...
Until then I wait... :)

I wanna get one of those but I'm waiting for just two more things:
1. The money to buy it
2. The money to buy another everyday driver

Doesnt the GUDE site say the kit comes with a TD04 turbo? Yeah it does I just checked.
Havro
08-19-2004, 12:37 PM
on flux performance the kit is listed at 2550
add the BOV 185
thats 2735
for 2735 are there any other fees that arnt included that will be tacked on/
also is there anything else necessary to buy
i have an auto....so a trans cooler would probably help
it seems there is no fuel management with the kit....is that necessary or no?
if i bought this kit i would only run 5-6 psi max
looks good and 2735 for a complete bolt on kit isnt bad!
I would deff get a safc or something else for fuel managment, this kit does not come with any fuel managment. GUDE even admitts that it does not have propper a/f ratio at idle and there might be issue for people at different elevations that where GUDE did their testing.

The S-AFC I & II are somewhat limited. You might want to check out what Perfect Power has to offer. I think the SMT-6 is supposed to be good... http://www.perfectpower.com/products/smt6.asp
Has anyone actually used a SMT unit from Perfect Power and gotten everything to work? I remember there being alot of issues with that unit, the fuel management would work but the timing side of things and the other features weren't turning out as was expected.
SWortham
08-19-2004, 02:16 PM
Oh, good question, I don't know.
The SMT-6 is a much better unit but I wouldn't spend the extra cash on it unless all the extras will actually work.

read my sig for my current setup (minus the GUDE Turbo Kit, Clutch Kit, BOV -- cause those aren't installed yet) -- you will see I have a SAFC :) but I plan to go haltech stand-alone at a later date.
edit: blah, noticed I screwed up on my sig too... says Apexi S-SAFC... bleh, I'll fix that later...
All this ecu/electronics talk makes me wish for a carbed engine. LOL

labmixz
08-20-2004, 06:40 PM
SAFC is suffient...
And... just cause I'm bored, I got a new toy in today... the TurboSmart MBC... I decided to just hand tighten some bolts and see how things looked... this is not how the MBC will be installed... if you can telll really it's just got one hose clamp and that cheap silicon hose wouldn't really do well on the heat from that turbo (getting some really good silicon hosing for this, instead of cheap shyt)...

Well, seeing how bill won't start production on any other 2.0L BetaII kits until this one (mine) is done, you might see a slightly long wait... cause I'm still waiting on parts of mine... According to Bill he has 4 ordered pending (meaning already given him the money) and with yours now makes 5...
So I wouldn't expect it fast... and be patient...

So Bill said it'll take a while for the kits to be put together and shipped unless there is more demand. Now he has 5 people paid and waiting, this is the demand he was looking for and now the story is that it'll take a long time because there is a demand. What's up with that?

Well...
I was told that the 2nd Package was to be shipped DHL Next Day, per Bill Gude, just like the first package was, I got proof the package was shipped, tried calling DHL several times to double check the package arrival date, but it had not gone through their system yet, this morning I wake up, look online at the tracking number, "Service: Ground, Scheduled Delivery: 9/2/04" <-- now I'm kinda pissed, cause I've been lied to (again), but happy it's actually shipped...
----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so even though I'm not getting the rest of the parts till Thursday I took apart my car and decided to put the manifold on already... la la la...
jacked it up, took off the headlights, front bumper, intake and stock header/exhaust manifold...
And then, bad news for all you wanting a GUDE kit at the moment...
Why ?
The Manifold isn't fitting... at all... I can get it on barely but won't go all the way down, seems the bottom holes are about 2-5mm down too far not allowing for a perfect line up...
I will be talking to Bill Gude come monday...
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some pics, the manifold looks like it's not on straight, because well, it's not... lol... I just stuck it on there to take the pics and show how big of a gap is inbetween... even putting it on straight as fk, you can't get it on, it stops that point everytime....

http://www.labmixz.com/images/tcins3.jpg

-------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
I measured, the whole bottom row of holes on the manfold is off by 1/8th of a inch... I measured the GUDE Manifold then measured the hole spacing on the stock manifold and came out 1/8th diff on all the bottom holes...

Well... I could drill out/widen the holes no problem... it would however mess up some of the chroming, but I don't think you would notice it because of where it is...
But... I'm not going to do this until Bill says to do it, because if I do it before and somethings happens, I'll get blamed for it... not gonna happen...
I'm gonna give Bill two choices come Monday:
1 - Magically pull a new fitting manifold out of his *** and have it to me by Thursday (when the rest of the parts get here)
2 - I will drill the holes at a machine shop and he pay the costs... that way I have it recorded I had it done by a "profressional" (knowing I could easily do this myself in two minutes...)

lol, my headlights are already moded... :)
but ya, I agree these should have been test fitted ON A CAR... he told me he test fitted the wastegate on manifold and turbo on the manifold and got the setup to hold pressure for 24 hours... he did this, but didn't test fit it on a car... kinda "erks" me...
Esspecially cause I've so far waited over two months now...
Oh well, Bill Gude will have his options come Monday when I call on my lunch hour (9am PST, right when GUDE Performance opens) and I'm not gonna be a nice person this time around...
I wouldn't have minded the wait, if it all actually FIT and WORKED... but now because it doesn't actually FIT or WORK (yet) well, ya... I've got such a headache over this...

Well, I'm gonna correct myself here...
I was pretty po'd and tired when I did the measurements, so I just went out and did them again... and they came out fine... so I went to try and put it on again and again and again, finally found the problem...
http://www.labmixz.com/images/tcins4p.jpg
In that picture I circled an area where where the manifold comes very close to some unit (not sure what, to tired to think about it atm)... now I noticed on one side of the manifold it's filed/grinded down nicely... but on the other side (the problem side) it's not... and it's pretty thick... but before I didn't see any problems... but now I look a bit closer and see that about half inch in the unit has a little raise in it and strangely enough I could only put the manifold on about a half inch in... so now I found the correct problem...
Will be calling GUDE monday to see if he wants me to grind it down and fix it... or whatever else...

Well, I will say this... I commend Tim for his help...
BUT, that wasn't the only problem... they need to widen the holes a little bit more on this manifold, there was still something not allowing it on... but I did get it on...

haha, the 03 i4 tibs have a bit more room than what I've seen in the 01's and the elantra's... :) :) but ya, removing the PS Pump did help, but it shouldn't fit as tightly as me having to get a rubber mallet and pounding the utter hell outta it, like I did.... ;)

After talking with Bill for a long time tonight I suggested the idea of running a straight pipe where the intercooler should be and only putting 2psi on for now... Because he sent me the wrong intercooler... yay... Which is what I'm going to do, so tomorrow I'll be running the oil lines and bolting everything up to spec... Also I'll be sending back the current intercooler while waiting for a new one to be made... one that fits...
After the one that fits is on I'll will up the boost to 7psi or 8psi and run it for about a month, then I'll be installing the pistons and new clutch...

well OD, obviously he needs to add some sort of fuel control.. depending on what type of fuel control he will use, he may have to do all sorts of things...
ie.. bigger injectors, fuel controller...
OR, if he wants to, he could add a 5th injector & a controller... or he could convert to return system and use a pressure regulator to boost fuel pressure...
There are lots of things he can do...
.

hmmm, so he will be using SAFC and bigger injector? or w/e piggy back..
There is only one GUDE kit, there is no basic kit and a more complete kit. There is only one and GUDE supplies NOTHING for fuel managment. I do think that Lab already has a SAFC though.

08-31-2004, 10:09 AM
I thought that they were working on some kind of chip and secretlyh modified injectors?
The kit does come with the super secret injectors and J&S Safegaurd system which takes care of timing but no fuel tuning. Personally I won't be doing any business with GUDE after all the waiting and headaches Lab has had to deal with. The kit was supposed to be ready to manufacture(already prototyped) and GUDE still can't get the intercooler size or the piping right, I also won't be buying anything that has secret parts that makes you deal with the same slow people if something were to break.

Bill himself said they were modified injectors and he wasn't going to say anymore than that. This is the first I've heard that they are hyundai injectors and what size they are. So what was modified on them? Flow rate, impedance, the pigtails?
yevRPS
09-01-2004, 10:35 AM
that's what the secret part is :) i read somewhere (his site maybe) that they were OEM hyundai injectors. he just wasn't going to disclose what was done to them to modify them. someone correct me if i'm wrong
For me that's a problem. If one of the injectors fails you have to wait on Bill to have his people work their magic on some more injectors for you instead of just getting the parts from your fav source and having someone modify it to the specs the orig were. If you have another car or can hoof it for however long it takes to get new ones from GUDE then you'll be fine but my car needs to get my *** to work everyday.
OdessitPashka
09-01-2004, 04:38 PM
you are right, its a problem, but then if something goes wrong u usually go to the source where u got your stuff from.... so either way you would have came back to GUDE
You don't have to always go back to the same person. An injector is an injector no matter where it came from. I'm sure GUDE hasn't reinvented the wheel here and if you knew the specs you could find it somewhere else and have someone else mod it for you. If you could find it cheaper or faster is still questionable but I'd like to have the option to try.

Good point... it's a minor detail that could lock you into dealing with GUDE. And what happens if one of the injectors fails and then GUDE goes out of business? Then you might have to get all new injectors & retune. It should be OK though as long as you can continue to get service from GUDE.

got the injectors in today at 5:50pm... and they've been installed for about 20min now... :) just waiting on the intercooler...
GUDE shipped it next day w/Sat delivery, so tomorrow, intercooler... and I'll be starting the car.

I hope you don't encounter too many problems. This is a pretty exciting day I'm sure. Make sure you don't drive around all day and forget to post info and impressions, haha. Keep up the good work.

well, drove it twice around the block, first time noticed an oil leak, fixed that, second time the engine torque and hit a peice of piping against the radiator fans and knocked it off... so waiting for the car to cool down to fix

when it's working properly, yes... lol
right now seems to be spooling at 3/4k and bov is sounding at 5k... which isn't right og and no noticable boost till 5k... which is also odd...
OdessitPashka
09-04-2004, 05:12 PM
thats odd.
well, let us know what's happening. you probably have a leak somewhere...
labmixz
09-04-2004, 06:59 PM
I fixed the spooling problem, but it's still boosting at 5k, which leaves me and everyone else I've talked to, to believe it's a bad wastegate...
so I'll be talking to bill come tuesday... and... I think I killed my stock clutch (which is fine by me, since next week I was ordering the new one anyhow...)

Any problems with CEL's?
If so, what are they?

09-05-2004, 12:09 AM
from those pics, the charge pipe coming out of the turbo is actually touching the radiator fan...
that will not work.
what did you do to fix it ??? (or am i percieving the wrong situation?)
NCspecV81
09-05-2004, 04:09 PM
what gear are you getting boost around 5k? b/c youll build boost differently in each gear...if its 1st gear that you are talking about...that doesnt seem odd...probably about right...for the turbo to spool you need load! so the greater the load..the better the spool..

Seems that the speed/compression of the turbo is a function off of engine RPM's, right?
OdessitPashka
09-06-2004, 11:15 PM
so, how is it? every time someone turbo charges their car they seem to dissapear.... are they too fast to talk to us now? lol or they spend all of their time driving?

so, how is it? every time someone turbo charges their car they seem to dissapear.... are they too fast to talk to us now? lol or they spend all of their time driving?
well, I think I've located all my problems.. granted I'm going on no directions here so I'm basically talking to Tim (Speed-Factor) alot, GUDE (Bill) did include directions, but they were like 5 steps and eveyrthing related to pictures that didn't exist... So I think once it's all said and finished I'm gonna end up writing directions for this kit...
But, tomorrow I'm 90% certain I'm going to fix any boost problems I was having, but unfortunitly I know I blew my clutch on the 3rd run I made with the car... so... I'm going to TRY to drive it tomorrow after I've fixed everything, we'll see on that... if the clutch is as gone as it smells to be, then I won't be driving until atleast the 15th (payday) so I can buy a new clutch (Spec Stage 4 Clutch)... Also I still need to contact J&S SafeGuard for installation instructions for 2.0L tiburon thon the J&S SafeGuard, which I'll try to get to tomorrow...
We'll see tomorrow...
I might not be going to work, it appears the bridge I take to work every day is now closed due to flooding from the hurricane, soo... I really won't find out till tomorrow morning if it's closed in the morning or not... if it's closed, I don't go to work and I work on the car early morning... otherwise I work on it when I get home...

I would find another one besides SPEC man.....
well, lets see, it's either spec (which I know several people whom have and no compliants) for $400 or ebay XTD (or something) for $309 or a Valeo VHR for 700-800$
I've already contacted clutchmaster, they said they could not/will not make one, so right now I'm leaning towards spec, unless you got something for $400 and the same specs on it ;)
OdessitPashka

why not XDT from ebay?

i would like to point out to those who are interested in using this kit on their elantra that it will not fit without relocation of the fans.
and from what i can tell, the stock fans are setup as pullers... and whoever puts this kit in their XD will most likely have to buy two new fans (ato parts store) and set them up as pushers....
also, the relocated fans will sit in front of the ac condenser... and will have slightly less efficiency than the stock fans since they wont be directly pushing air over the radiator itself...
from what i can guesstimate, the location of the turbo compressor is about 1 inch or less from the location of the elantra radiator itself... that means that if the fans were in place, the turbo will not fit.
if anyone can prove otherwise, please humble me.
labmixz
09-07-2004, 08:44 PM
ok,
As of now the turbo is working 100% correct... just the clutch, well, thats a different story, clutch is gone almost all the way, so next step is to get a new clutch... I'm currently boosting at 5psi, which with the new clutch will be raised to 7psi...
also, I need to install the J&S SafeGuard, of whom I just got off the phone with, looks like a pretty simple install, so I should have no worries there in the install, probably won't do the SafeGuard install until this weekend, unless Florida gets another hurricane... then I'll be sitting around doing nothing

Waiting on money for the clutch, I transfed the money from paypal to my bank account but that takes 3-4 business days, so it's either way for the money to transfer or wait for my paycheck (which comes weds) so... whichever comes first then I can order...

you prlly dont even need to take off the PS. I put my turbo mani on the beta by putting the end toward the PS pump on first then tapping it on with a rubber mallett. Of couse i do not have your specific guild kit, but the flange looks of similar size and i had the same fitment problem at first.
oh! and the xtd clutch on ebay looks EXACTLY like the SPEC clutch.... I have the xtd installed and it is litterally identical to my friend's spec one.

Do you have some kind of MAP clamp installed? It could be a 'MAP sensor too high' code. Or if you don't have your second O2 behind a CAT it could be the Catylst sytem inefficient CEL.

Well I finaly got my piping in yesturday from Gude . Just incase anyone forgot I ordered mine on Aug. 24th and still dont have all of the parts yet. FYI if you oder from Gude be prepared to wait FOREVER!!! I didnt take labmixes advice to get it from somewhere else and now its snowing out. Well looks like Ill be waiting until spring to install, if I get all of the parts by spring that is. Gude does not have thier Sh!t togeather at all. Very unorganized outfit. If I had to do it again I would have spent the extra $$ to get the kit from somewhere else.
