: And you thought the racist couch was bad
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 12:34 PM im sorry but this was too good to be buried in another post:
GA school hosts first integrated prom (http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3065077&page=1)
KeWLKaT 04-23-2007, 12:43 PM Well what... I think what they did is pretty damn cool...
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 12:50 PM its not the fact that it was done, that is awesome that they finally did it, its just that it took so damn long to do it
KeWLKaT 04-23-2007, 12:54 PM OH that's for sure! I find it very repugnant that they where actually doing it for so many years...
Munky 04-23-2007, 12:55 PM Yeah..the civil rights movement ended in the 60's..I would think something like that would be borderline illegal..
SuperGLS 04-23-2007, 01:14 PM And I still wouldn't have went to the prom...
But good for them.
tharptroy 04-23-2007, 01:51 PM And I still wouldn't have went to the prom...

LMAO! I didnt care enough to go to highschool prom either.

Hold on a second. What did the school do wrong?
Quote from the story:
For as long as anyone can remember, the high school has not held an official school prom.
Instead, there have been two unofficial events — a black prom and a white prom.
Was it repugnant and illegal to NOT hold a prom? The 2 other proms were not official or endorsed by the school. They were private parties. Now the school has officially sponsored a prom. Good for them.
KeWLKaT 04-23-2007, 01:59 PM Oh comon you KNOW they would do something to try and make sure that those two proms didnt happen!
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 02:00 PM the thing about it is, the school had two sperate dances known as white and black for those corrisponding racial groups. granted, it wasn't official, but approved by the school almost 50 years after the end of the civil rights movement
Munky 04-23-2007, 02:08 PM Yeah, even if it wasn't official, it was still obvious it was segregated, which is why I said borderline.. But technically, no. They didn't do anything wrong.
NovaResource 04-23-2007, 02:51 PM How can you say they approved them? Just because they didn't prevent them?
So every private party the students throw is approved by the school?
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 02:53 PM by approval, the school and parents are aware that it was happening, no one did anything to stop it yes, but for something this illegal by our federal laws nothing was done. it took a new principal to bring about this change.
just take the time and read this article and not skim it and it is all there
For as long as anyone can remember, the high school has not held an official school prom.

the article never says where the "proms" took place, but my guess is that thye happeend on school property which in turn means that the school then approved them

not to mention that the students shared every other aspect of highschool life but the dance

Don't assume. Did your "official" prom take place on school property? Neither ny Jr or Sr proms did.
[quote]not to mention that the students shared every other aspect of highschool life but the dance
EXACTLY! If every other aspect of high school life (that the school controlled) was shared why would you assume the school supported segregated, private parties?
Did you read this part:
For Turner principal Chad Stone, the event was many years in the making.
"We were aware that they always had separate proms here," said Stone. "We've always tried to have one prom for the students here, but they'd rather have their own."
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 03:18 PM i found the flipping article! of course i read it. why are you so defensive over the fact that it was borderline illegal?
yes my proms were on school property... yes they had school officials there chaperoning the event. and as far as private parties go, then why does the school know about it and no one in the community throw the race card over this?
because it was a tradition? **** that! it was a tradition to steal people from africa and bring them to cuba to later be sold to america. it was tradition to drag gays and blacks behind a truck. does that make them any less illegal just because? no.
and just so you know, de facto segregation is just as crippling as regular segregation if not more
NovaResource 04-23-2007, 03:22 PM Dude, read the story and comprehend.
The school tried to make one integrated prom but the students wanted 2 separate ones. Since this is a free country, the school can't prevent the students from throwing their own parties even if they did know about it. If anyone is at fault it's both the black and white students that wanted separate parties, not the school that had nothing to do with it.
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 03:25 PM i never once said that it was the fault of the school for letting it happen, i said that the school was aware of it and that i was appalled that no one in the community did anything about it. Read post #13
i never said that it was directly the school's fault, but by allowing something like this, they are partially responsible.
KeWLKaT 04-23-2007, 03:28 PM They OBVIOUSLY didnt try. Think about it. The article contradicts itself.
If they TRIED before, why would THIS ATTEMPT be different than any other?
Obviously they never really tried and this was the first ever attempt.
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 03:30 PM thank you felix....
and just to let the modding staff know, im trying really hard not to get angry about something like this, but damnit it all if this isn't the most obvious thing in the world! i mean, a retarded monkey could find the wrong in this!
NovaResource 04-23-2007, 03:30 PM i never said that it was directly the school's fault, but by allowing something like this, they are partially responsible.
They couldn't do anything about them. They were PRIVATE parties.
thank you felix....

I guess that makes you a retarded monkey.
my01elantra 04-23-2007, 03:34 PM Why argue about it? Its just a dance for God's sake lol. The important thing is that it is not segragated anymore.
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 03:38 PM thats all i was trying to say in the first place! look how long it took for a damn dance to happen then it turned into a legality debate that was obviously retarded
I guess that makes you a retarded monkey.
personal attacks are for those without the brain power to really think of a retort to a point well proven
KeWLKaT 04-23-2007, 03:40 PM Nova. Personal attacks aren't tolerated around here. Please don't do it again.
NovaResource 04-23-2007, 04:12 PM Nova. Personal attacks aren't tolerated around here. Please don't do it again.
I didn't make the personal attack, Vampyrate said it. It's simple logic. His quote:
but damnit it all if this isn't the most obvious thing in the world! i mean, a retarded monkey could find the wrong in this!
So if "retarded monkey could find the wrong in this"
And Vampyrate finds this wrong then: Vampyrate = retarded monkey.
That's his logic, not mine.
I don't find the wrong in this.
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 04:33 PM that is not my logic in the least, and not as a personal attack, but now i just think you are trying to be a smartass about something that was never really a big deal in the first place.
if you are so content with arguing the legality of things why arent you a police officer? they at least get paid to do that sort of thing
my01elantra 04-23-2007, 04:34 PM Why cant we all just get along? lol
Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 04:38 PM i really dont know, i made a post and it snowballed into this. and me being so big in debate that i am, i helped fuel the fire.
and with that, unless something else is said to piss me off, im done with this thread
Munky 04-23-2007, 04:40 PM If ANYONE in this thread was a retarded monkey, it would be me, thank you very much.
NovaResource 04-23-2007, 04:40 PM that is not my logic in the least
So this isn't your post?
thank you felix....

Vampyrate 04-23-2007, 04:44 PM i really dont care about the ban now, or temporary whatever
Nova, sarcasm goes a long long way, but for you it stops very short.
KeWLKaT 04-23-2007, 04:45 PM Thread should be closed any time now.
