Recently I have been seeing my xd in the garage thinking about whats next. Well I cannot say to much...I am going to be joining the military soon because I need to save money for the future. Of course when I return I will want to buy something different. Ideas for next vehicle. Well possibly Honda S2000 but I am worried about praticalness of the vehicle. Of Course the soft top is going and I want a removable hard top like this one here.http://www.benlevy.com/auto/show/hin06/img_8649.jpg

If that is not my route I have always wanted a all-motor EK9 with a B series motor. Clean and simple. Like this one.http://www.benlevy.com/auto/show/hin06/img_8660.jpg

But If I think about having kids soon I want a fun grocery getter. So I am thinking wrx wagon.http://www.pegdrgr.com/old/images/WRX/WRX%20Wagon.JPG

What would be your choice if you had to pick one??? Think of this as a daily driver.

Gotta go with the Impreza.

The S2000 is too small. The Civic is too old. So that leaves the Impreza which there isn't any real downfalls.

Impreza would by and far be the most practical...

Have you ever considered a GTP? Practical grocery getter with a gigantic afermarket for pretty cheap.

Hmmm, if it takes a few years to do the military thing, maybe you can get a 2009 Tib (the new RWD coupe that is coming out).

Otherwise, the Impreza... make sure you don't get the auto again! :)

If we're talking a couple years, Pontiac G8. V8, RWD, roomy sedan. Zeta platform (i.e. Camaro) so there will be plenty of aftermarket.

Impreza Ftw!

Only if its used, because the new ones are possibly the ugliest car made in recent times.

um Pontiac G8 better get better than 25mpg or no go. GTP I like them but only come in automatic. They are quick though. As for a k20 turbo in a civic have you seen how much a k20 runs I might as well go K24 and call it a day. I still love the EK though. I had a friend with the mini me and a custom turbo off of a volvo. Maintenance on a Subaru is a killer for me. awd system and all the turbo parts. More working parts more problems down the road. Oh and I am thinking of going used, no way I would buy a new car.

The WRX only gets 19 mpg/city. I'm guessing the V8 version of the G8 will probably incorporate selectable cylinder technology to improve mpg. The 6.0L from Australia in the Commodore was getting about 16-20 mpg (after conversion). The 3.6L will probably be similar to all of GMs other milages.

You might consider getting a 2008+ Lancer Ralliart. Nice looking car with the 2.4 in it should be a pretty good setup (although it hasn't come out yet). I like the Lancer GTS, but the engine would have to be modified to make more than the 153/146 hp/tq that it puts out stock. Plus Mitsubishi has got Hyundai's warranty now.

I haven't been able to find much about the Ralliart. Only the DE, ES, and GTS with the 2.0L (and 5-spd or CVT) are available for the coming year. Ralliart will be after that sometime, before the EVO.

According to motortrend,
"The turbocharged, all-wheel-drive Lancer Ralliart is intended to be more mild-mannered than the Evo X and has been designed to compete with Subaru's WRX.

It's meant to be a halfway step between the regular Lancer sedans and the all-out performance version to give Mitsubishi a car line with broader appeal."

That means it'll probably have the same turbo-2.0L engine that the EVO X will have. I wonder if that also means it won't have a manual transmission, like the EVO X?

Either way, he can't make up his mind so we're throwing out ideas.

I'd go for a G6 convertible hard top.

Please don't let me ever hear the term "G6" on this forum ever again. This is where I come to get away from those POS's. Thank you. :D

Imprezza all the way. s2000 isn't too practical and civics are all over the place. get the imprezza and get a beater/project civic.

WRX wagon......4 doors, stock turbo, spacy wagon size, sleek looking ride. For the reasons you listed this definitely seems the most practical. I'm also very partial to 4 doors :D.

Sorry RX7! ;) Be thankful that GM has given you job security. But I like the look and the price for a retractable hardtop. I'd never hang onto something like that for more than 2-3 years anyway.

If you can deal with popping and rattling the entire time you are driving it, then by all means, have fun...

i would go with the wagon as welll, but if you are concerned about maintaining it, i would go with the similarly sized Mazdaspeed wagon. Being as it is a domestic and i believe TC OEM as well, then it would be a fun little ride. that or look into the Cx7. by the time you get out of the military, they will be used and a bit cheaper than they are now.

i myself love SUVs and wagons, so those would be my choices.

hope they help you out.

as a pontiac driver, i like to think of mine, and pretty much all that i have driven (02 TA, Sunfire, Sunbird, Firebird, GTP, GP, GA, GAGT) as terrible cars. I don't like them. I really don't like the GTO to even test drive it. Though I have raced one and gotten spanked at a 40mph roll.

I already put up with it in my Elantra ... constantly. Every time I drive it.
