The bank is refunding the $$ and investigating, then My Ebay account gets hijacked got it back but some asshole was trying to sell a 2003 ATV for $1000 under my name  the Credit card on Ebay has nothing to do with my bank account so is 2 different incidents I had to get new Email and all   , so hopefully everything will be fully resolved. as long as I get my $$ back let them deal with the crooks, How do you take money out of an ATM without a debit card  I feel raped

Damn, that really sucks. I'm sure it'll get worked out. Were you like "I don't live in Europe you idiots" when they probably asked "Are you sure it wasn't you that withdrawled the funds?" in their stupid bank voice?

Every time I start to get too comfy with our modern E convienent lifestyle something like this happens to someone I know. I'm glad that your bank caught it as early as they did Ilan! Sounds to me like they are trying to do the right thing. Identity theft is an extremely bad thing, unfortuneately it isn't recognized as the crime it should be. My opinion is that people who steal identity and use it for thier own gain should be tried for murder. Ever heard some of the stories of people who have had phony mortgages taken out in thier names and then defaulted! Financial ruin doesn't even come clost to describing it! Sorry for the rant, good luck Ilan let us know how it turns out.

Owie, that sucks. I remember once my Visa Credit Card company called me once to tell me that they thought a transaction wasn't legit for some reason. it was something I had purchased, but I guess it looked odd to them and they called me to check. It's nice that someone is on the lookout sometimes. Good for your bank though!

That sucks man. I'm glad it was caught and you will be refunded, I had my credit card number stolen somehow, some place in Russia was where the transactions were being processed. Tha bank caught as fast as I did, too bad for those suckers I have such a huge balance on my card that they had almost nothing to steal.

:iamwithst Hopefully everything works out and you get your money back...
Sorry about the hassle - to try and clear up the ATM part, they prob run your number thru a Debt point of purchase terminal, kind of like the Credit card machines everystore has, but instead of running the transaction thru the Credit Card network, they get their athorizations from the ATM network, the cost per trans is higher for the merchant but the set-up costs are alot lower, sometimes free if you let them put one of their high fee ATMs in your store too. Our local Quickie/Liquir Mart has one of these things, they only take Debt cards and charge $1.50 per trans to use it. These Trans show up as ATM withdraws on your statement. You also run into them in Casinos or Strip clubs where you wouldn't want "The Doll House - $250" showing up on your statement.

Luckily you received your money back. I would totally be shocked & mad too.
I never bought anything from e-bay yet, this makes me wonder if I should?
Except it could happen anywhere I guess, I do most of my banking online.

all's well that ends well, but be careful. make sure you get a copy of your credit report and go over it carefully. close any accounts that may still be open but that you never use, i once had a ton of them that i never realized were still open...ones i hadn't used in years.

Ilan, Get all 3 credit reports and put a fraud block on all of them.
About 7 years ago, I found my funds hijacked to ****. Not only was my bank accounts frozen, but the olnly credit card, which had no balance was maxed out and not only that, after 2 years of trying to clean that up, I discovered a huge number of accounts totalling $65,000 in my name I never seen; and unpaid.
I'm still trying to clean that up. You are lucky to have found it quickly.

my brother has a discover card that he uses for various everyday purchases. he bought a $500 scooter on it, and before we had gotten out of the mall parking lot, discover called (cell phone) to ask if he authorized the purchase.- pretty damn good service if you ask me.
hopefully you'll get **** straightened out ilan, at least the bank refunded your money

Download, install, and run Norton Antivirus, ZoneAlarm, SpyBot, AdAware, if you haven't already. You can get them all (free, 'cept NAV, which has a free trial) off download.com.
My PayPal account got hijacked because I checked it from a work computer that apparently had a virus on it. Almost lost $2100... the bank was no help, thank god for Paypal. Turned out some kid in the Philippines hijacked my paypal account, and tried to buy a laptop and a PS2 w/ games from eBay. We got the Laptop turned around en route, but he got the PS2.
Best part was that I traded emails with the guy afterwards... he's a real cocky bastard, and I managed to track down his picture and his home address. If I didn't have better things to do (I had just been married!) I would have flown myself and some pals out to the Phillipines and said hi to the punk.
