View Full Version : General Future-car talk

So, from what I've been looking at of concepts and ramblings (both Hyundai and non-Hyundai), it looks like the time to buy a new car will be sometime between 2009 and 2011. In that time there will be the release, or anticipated release of:
Hyundai Truck/Ute (if built), Tiburon Replacement (maybe?), Hyundai "BH" Genesis, Chevy Camaro, Chevy El Camino, Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and Evolution, Subaru's new lineup starting with the '08 Impreza, and others I'm sure I'm not listing.
Seems like the upcoming years, starting with the '08s, will be when the next "wave" of cars comes to us. Anyone else care to share general opinions of the near-future cars?
Forgot something else I wanted to add:
With a lot of new standards being imposed at this time (including higher fuel mileage and reduced emissions), I'm guessing a lot of the cars available at that time are going to be redesigns or new designs, rather than just facelifts.

I see GM, Hyundai and Subaru growing. Toyoduh/Honduh getting stagnant from quality problems, Chrysler being sold off and liquidated and Ford flat bankrupt.
As far as individual cars, there's a bunch coming to market that are going to get the attenrion of true drivers again. I figure in 3 years (2010, '11 model year) will be a great time to buy again.

That's what I'm thinking. With the Elantra paid off this summer, and paying ahead to finish off the Santa Fe by next February, sitting back and saving some money for 2-3 years while they build these new cars seems like the perfect plan. Honestly, who doesn't want a new car, but if there's something you are waiting for to come out, it will make not buying a new car easier I suppose.

I'm looking forward to this. With luck, I'll be graduating in May of next year, and I plan on keeping the Elantra (swapping in a low mileage motor/trans combo) for at least two or three years after graduation. With luck, I'll be able to have a decent wad of cash saved up so that buying a new car when all the new models come out won't be too much of a strain...

didn't realize there was an El-Camino coming back... I s'pose it makes sense if the Camaro returns. I'd say that Ford will hang around for at least 10 more years before dying off, giants don't die too quickly. Chrysler on the other hand will be sold at auction within 5 years. They have some cool cars out now and coming down the pipe but they have nothing to sell to the masses to maintain the big expensive beast of a company.
The new Entourage should be paid off in 2012 so we may have to dig back into 2 car payments to slide me into a new machine. At least that's what I think, the wifey may have a different view

Wow, that El Camino is pretty cool looking. That might be a possibility..

Hyundai's BH-based 'pickup' would be similar to the Zeta-based El Camino from the sounds of it (again, based on speculation). So if you wanted to stay in the "crooked-H family" that would be a possibility.

Yeah, for sure. I've never owned a pickup or anything similar, just three different cars. It would be a nice change.

Starting with '09 models, Oregon is going to California Emission standards. That's gonna suck. If I buy, it might just be the end of next year when the last of the '08 "whatever models I like" are still lagging on the lots.
Cars SUCK! You buy something and next year there is always "new and improved". :D

That's why I was happy when I bought my 2002 and in 2003 nothing changed for the Elantra. I didn't feel like I instantly had an old car. That happened in 2004 with the XD2s :(

Anyone know what the appox price difference will be between a Lancer GTS and Ralliart? Have they even announced the pricing yet for the performance models?

Having a pickup is better than having a car in some ways, but in a lot of ways the car is better. Having a nice car and a beater pick up or vice versa would be the best of both worlds i guess.

The Lancer is going to a 3-tier platform similar to the Subaru Impreza, you can use that to probably base pricing. The Ralliart is supposed to be a half-way point between the standard Lancer and Evolution.
Mitsubishi means for the cars to compete with Subaru like this:
Impreza/Lancer; WRX/Ralliart; STI; Evolution
If a Lancer is $20K, and an Evo is $30K, I'd guess the Ralliart would be $25K. Only a guess.

how do you think people feel that bought the last el camino! or those that thought that they got the last camaro ever

Didn't the last Camaro off the line end up going to auction? I'd be unhappy if I were the one who paid a ton of money for the 'Last' Camaro, only to have it reborn 7 years later.

I think that I might be ready for a new car in 2010 (that'll be 8 years on the XD). I will be looking for anything really. The wife is happy with her Vibe and her next car will be something Vibe like for sure. That takes care of the need to move people/cargo/crap around. That could open me up to a smaller car.
Lately I've been loving the Accent SE and the Pontiac Solstice. Let's hope that by 2010 Hyundai/Kia has either a quicker Accent or a roadster, that's what I'm hoping for.
Definitely things are looking up for Hyundai/Kia as well as some other brands, we'll see.

i thought we were supposed to have flying cars and whatnot in the year 2000??? jetpacks, hover boards i was misled as a child by the damned back to the future movies and what do we get in the year 2000 the mother******* pt cruiser wtf?? no i gotta wait 3-4 more years to get something that even resembles something that cool as when i was 9
jeewhiz i really had hoped when i was a kid that they would invent a hoverboard that was the only reason i ever got into skateboarding
Hopefully cheaper as different methods of power for cars are introduced.
Honestly I think im ganna try and keep the XD for as long as possible.

whatever my next car is i doubt it will run on gas. im really thinking about getting something that runs on E85. im just done dealing with oil companies.
isnt GM the only company making cars that run on E85 right now?
hyunelan2
05-07-2007, 11:53 PM
Ya know E85 doesn't help much, right? You pay less for E85, but get worse mileage, so you buy more. It's a wash when you're considering price. Ford has E85 cars, they call them "Flex Fuel" vehicles.

just a tip .. big brother makes more on each drop of gas than big oil does. It's no wonder gov't won't give a really big push to alternative energy or reductions in the uses of fossil fuel.

Gas taxes are outrageous in many states. But it doesn't get better because people in government realize that they can get away with anything they want and no one will stand up in outrage against them.

Let's keep this away from "Gas prices/the govt/other crap" and keep this about the actual vehicles of the future please. Thank you.
And, I agree with slyderdai.
