Weak flame, I know, but deep down somewhere I know that if you all listen to me whine and complain, I'll feel better.

I'll blame this on going camping on Saturday night. Seemed like a good idea in the planning phases. It was cold and windy, but the Jose Cuervo didn't let me notice that too much. Sunday I was just plain worn out dead-tired. When Monday came along, about 3:00 I started to get that 'feeling.' You know the one, the one that suddenly comes over your body like a wave. I had a little bit of a scratchy throat, but I hardly ever get sick, so I figured I'd just tough my way through it.

Monday night was warm, so we slept with the window open. I woke up yesterday morning and felt like my head needed to be popped. "Oh great, allergy season is here," I speculated. My left sinus was non-existent, and I had some sneezing and stuffyness. The kind of thing you would blame on allergies, so I started taking allergy medicine (incorrect for the real problem).

After work, I did a 15-mile bike ride with my wife and brother. I didn't feel good, but was still assuming it was allergies and I just had to suck it up. Then came last night. I was working on my jetski-painting project and was feeling worse and worse. I had to call it quits and go inside. I was so stuffed up that I could actually feel my heartbeat in my face. I started getting body-aches and chills, and knew this was no allergy. 2 Tylenol PM and I was out 3-pitches of the Cubs' game later. I was hoping to just sleep all night. About 11:30 I woke up and decided to move from the couch to bed - which was a mistake.

I would lay on one side until that part of my face wanted to explode, then roll over, repeat, for 7 hours. I'd be hot, then cold, then hot, then cold. It was miserable and painful. I actually contemplated going to the hospital so they could shoot me up with something, but the thought of getting out of bed wasn't pleasant.

Once morning came around, about 6:30, I couldn't wait to get out of that bed. It was like a prison cell. It hurt to move, but I did. Grabbed the thermometer: 101.0. Great. I took the last 2 Tylenol Cold Daytime tablets we had and took a cool shower to get my temperature down. I was fighting that inner-monologue fight of "skip work, go to work, skip work, go to work." On a normal day I would have skipped work, but we have people coming in from another city to tour our facilities today, and I'll need to show them our technological end of things. By 8:00 it was time to leave for work, and it was obvious that Tylenol Cold is not good for anything. All the "real" cold medicines are locked up behind the counter now anyway.

So on my way into work, I stopped at Walgreens and bought a Propel (gotta keep hydrated) and Aleve Cold & Sinus. If you've never taken this stuff before, it is the best cold medicine ever invented. One capsule will have you feeling good for 12 hours. There's been times that I've taken it and completely forgot I was sick, until it wore off. Of course, being good medicine with pseudo ephedrine in it - you have to show ID, fill out forms, yadayadayada to get it. This made me late for work. Stupid people making meth out of it.

So, here I am. It's starting to kick in because I don't wish I were dead at the moment, but still have absolutely no use of the left side of my face for breathing. I was originally planning on making it through my morning work and then going home to catch up on all the DVDs I've acquired and never watched. We'll see. If I feel good, I'll save my sick time (I only have like 28 days or something saved up, haha).

There. If you actually read all that and made it to this point, I commend you. Now that I've shared my misery, hopefully I can begin feeling better.

Sounds to me like you need to quit trying to be healthy. I don't ride bicycles or camp and do physical work and I'm healthy!

Damn gov't employees and their banked vacation and sick days :thumbsdow

Maybe your mind playing tricks and is telling you to be sick so you can snoop around the crime scene across the street.

Hope you feel better.

Read the whole thing as well ... when I start to have sinus/respiratory problems, I take benedryl and ibuprofen and guzzle water. Not much else will do any better.

Get well!

Yeah, we can bank our sick days for an unlimited time. They give us 6 per year. But, if we take 3 or more in a row, we need a doctor's note to come back. We also get 4 "personal" days, if we don't use them they become sick time at the end of the year.

Vacation time is a standard 10 days, plus another week for every 5 years you work here. Once October gets here, I'll have my 3 weeks vacation. Those whom are "salaried" also receive an extra week's vacation. I prefer to be paid hourly though, I like getting paid when I work over 40 hours.

Thanks for the get-well sympathies. Aleve has taken me through the day, but I'm starting to wear-down now. Only one more hour to go. Tomorrow if I feel bad, I can blow off work - nothing pressing going on.

That was way too long to read. So I didn't read it. And now I am posting for pretty much no reason. If you are sick like the title says then feel better.
