View Full Version : Hyundai giving us money?

Did anyone else get something in the mail about how the overstated the HP on our cars and now they are giving us money. We get either a $50 debit card or $100 dealer card. I think I'll get the dealer card and finally get my sway bar and possibly have a little extra money to offset the cost of pedals.

Anyone have any details on this as to which cars were overstated and how to get in touch with Hyundai if you own one?

Ronnie, are you sure that was a legit email (I know there had been some "fake" ones going around)? I highly doubt it considering this is over a year old at this point. Some people got extended warranties (and other things I think) but none of us were eligible because the percent of power loss wasn't high enough. Also, somehow I think they would use the USPS, not some email address, I've never received anything from Hyundai in the email.

This happened a long time ago. They used to have a spot on their website (www.hyundaiusa.com) where you could enter your VIN and it would tell you if your vehicle was affected. Instead of 140 HP us XD owners actually have 135 HP, which doesn't make the car slower, because the car always had 135 HP.

Looks like someone on HP got the email too. I'm still not convinced, and won't be until I have something in my hand.

That's what I wanted to see. Seems legitimate now, we'll see. This is my favorite part:
24. The Person You Sent The Notice To Died, What Should I Do With This Notice?
If you are the beneficiary of the deceased person's estate, you may recover under this Settlement on his or her behalf. To do so, submit a copy of the death certificate and power of attorney or other legal documentation to show that you are authorized to act on behalf of the estate.
Stupid people dying and missing out on some free money.

hmmm, what would u do, debit or dealer credit?
I just very recently bought everthing I needed from the dealer, so I would want debit. But then again dealer is $100 as opposed to $50. But that $50 could go towards anything, and dealers are too expensive anyways. decisions, decisions

where is the claim form that the website states? Is that something they send you? or do you have to take the steps to get them?

Notice that you must submit a claim form to HMA before July 22 in order to receive a settlement credit. Also sounds like we won't actually get the credit until late this year. But free money is free money...whenever I get it.

Yeah, I received that notice yesterday also. Looks like 99-02 Elantras (Group D). I have not decided whether to get the $50 debit card or the $100 dealer card.
Damn, my '03 gets nothing!

Yup... those Sante Fe owners get a whopping $325! Yeah... it was USPS and not e-mail. Everything has to be sent in by July 22nd or something like that.

Ill get the dealer card. You never know when you need a part that wont be covered under warranty due to modifications. Like my CV joint incident.

As most of you know, I work for the HyundaiUSA web host. The forms and information are definitely valid. If you have not yet received a claim form, print one from here:
http://classsettle.hyundaiusa.com/images/claim_form.pdf
Mail it to:
Hyundai Horsepower Class Action Center
P.O. Box 20802
Fountain City, CA 92728
And you get free money.

Just got mine too, it was probably here earlier but we just don't check the mail unless there is a Netflix movie in there, ha.
Good stuff. $100 dealer card for me, I just hope my dealer is one of the "participating" dealerships. I'll try to find out next week when I go in for my 24,000 service.

the letter says you get the money -within- 90 days of the settlement/hearing thingy. so within 90 days of july 22
got my letter sitting here . . will probably send it in this week. oh by the way yes some people got extended warranties . . . but you can give it up to get this 100 bucks. . . i would probably stick with the extended warranty if it is significant . . you can also use the money for services like tranny flushes and what not . . .

Just to let everyone know, it looks like they've released the list of participating dealerships that will accept the dealership cards.

And remember to send your things in this week so they get there in time.

Yea! My dealer's on the list. I was worried I'd have to spend my $100 dealer cash at some dealer in Northern Montana (PS I'm in Chicago) and wait for it.
Anyway, it's been a while since I thought about this. When were we supposed to start seeing the cash?

I was afraid of the same thing. But it looks like almost all the Hyundai dealers are on the list.
The money won't come for a while, like August or September. You know how the legal process works.

hey heres a question . . . ive been sitting on my little green envelope because i cant find the registration that proves i owned the car during the time of whatever the heck happened . . . it said somewhere in the letter that i have to show proof i owned it prior to like april of 02??? im not even sure, point is how many of you are conveniently forgetting to read that and just filling out the form and sending it all in? will they still gimme the card if i dont send the copy of the reigstration???
AngelBaby
07-05-2004, 11:24 PM
OOh, did we have to send the registration? I know I still have everything, but I def didn't send any proof in w/the card!
SuperGLS
07-05-2004, 11:32 PM
You have to send in your current registration if I'm not mistaken. I think they knew who had a registered Hyundai at that time and those are the people that got the letter in the mail. They want to make sure you still own the car.

07-05-2004, 11:50 PM
Oops again... wonder if they will send me something back in the mail wanting proof...

One more thing... they have to recieve it by July 22. So if you haven't sent it in you better get to it.
