Looks like the front of this tibby collided with the back or rear end of another vehicle possibly red in color

Did your airbags go off? Anyone hurt? Good luck on repairs

nope I think his front end collided with some fat drunk bar hog wearing a red skirt, he was going to take her home but came to his senses as he was getting into the car. She was saying goodbye to a friend and he pulled a hit and run up in that mofo!

Am I close?

I don't think the tib airbags work. My wife did 12 g's in damage and they never went off. She did 8 g's to the gls and they went off...thats the reason I have turned down two good offers on an rd and decided to keep up a search for a cheap gk

a carbon fibre hood would do more damage to the car - it would have probably broken up a lot (possibly shattered even) and gone flying and hurt innocent bystanders...

are you ok tho ? getting the car repaired or written off and getting a new model?

heres a few pics i just took showing the frame damage i can see.

in this pic you can see where my motor hook usually hit the lower strut bar under hard ****s, now its about an inch and 1/2 to the left of the hook.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/xxxmonoxidechild/winter%20crap/tibby%20wrecked/tibbusted009.jpg

the motor runs side by side with the frame rail. to change that pulley for the waterpump is a living hell that involves removing motor mounts, and jacking the engine up. now it would be pretty easy.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/xxxmonoxidechild/winter%20crap/tibby%20wrecked/tibbusted008.jpg

yea, you get the idea.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/xxxmonoxidechild/winter%20crap/tibby%20wrecked/tibbusted007.jpg

from those pics, im pretty sure its not fixable, there's frame damage.

if they can, i will get it fixed. i want to keep the tib. but if this tib's a loss, ill be parting it out, and moving on to another car. i love my tibby, but thats cause ive owned it for 7 years now. and its been a great car in that time. but replacing it with another doesnt intrest me.

if the tib is totaled, i think ill be picking up a newer escort ZX2. and get back to my 1 true luv, mazda. ive been wanting a KL swapped something for awhile, the ZX2 is the one car that hasnt been played out with the swap. plus done right, i think i can make it look good. (said the same things when i 1st bought the tibby :) )

xxxmonoxidechil

its built on the same chasis as the mx3/protege. ;)

just like my probes arent fords, they were built at a mazda plant by mazda with mazda parts.

The subframe can easily be replaced and is fairly cheap from a junkyard. I found several for 650 each. However if the inner fenders need tweaking or if the strut towers shifted to one side, then straightening that could either be easy or a total bastard depending where it shifted. IF the front section ahead of the strut towers shifted sideways, it is easy to bring it back into spec (which I think happened). That is not a frame section that you need to bend; since that is part of the front subframe that is replacable. If the point where the frame shifted is at the strut towers or behind the strut towers, then straightening that is more complex because that involves more measurements and body tweaking.

I traded a '99 ZX2 in on my Elantra. The ZX2 was an AWESOME car ... quick and very economical. My only beef with it was smacking my head on the roof almost every time I got in the car. One day I about cracked my skull, I got pissed off and drove to the Hyundai dealership and traded it in. I regret it now.

Get a ZX2, you'll love the little f***er! The thing that always amazed me is how willing the engine was to rev and how effortless the acceleration was ... even up a STEEP hill.

xxxmonoxidechil
05-21-2007, 08:05 AM
if the zx2 happens, the stock motor wont last longer then a month in the car. the point of that car is i can do the KL 2.5 swap to it. thats the deciding factor in the car above all else.

what can i say, im a sucka for the KL v6.

The cost of the damage doesn't determine whether or not the airbags will go off. What matters is if the crash sensors were activated. Cost can be affected by the price of the parts and how much labor is involved. So a job that doesn't look to be too bad, may actually be much more expensive than you think. I think this thread is a prime example of that.

Exactly. My collision was mostly cosmetic damage, and they quoted it at $2,700.

When my front end was ripped off by a Taxi, the insurance adjuster quoted $2,400 in damage. The majority of the cost is paint and labor. The rest of the work I did myself.

that was my 1st thought!!!

i just installed those last week, had to remove that mount, and jack the engine up to install it, now i have enough room to use a 1/2 inch rachet on it.

dunno what im gonna do. i know its totalled... at 1st i said i was done with the tib, and wanted to start with another car. but ive owned this car since 01 with 12k miles. i dont make alot of cash, and every little bit i can save buys more parts for this car. it just seems wrong to sell off the stuff ive given up alot just to barely afford them. im really thinking about finding another rd2. but it would have to have no sunroof, and of course, my color. basically id build it so you wouldnt know it was a different car..... same parts, even another home depot lip~!

I know the feeling of scrimping to buy parts and I can say that it would be tough to get rid of mine, despite all the trouble ive had. Good luck with your search I hope it works out!

so far im doing ok. been having isues getting rides around since i work three jobs. but finally got the damn $25 probe i bought a few months back running good. once the new gas tank arrives tommorrow, it will actually be a runner totally. so ill have something to drive again. but it wont give me the enjoyment the tib gave me. it was so much more then a car. im still extremely upset over the entire situation...

i just hope i will see some cash from her insurence. otherwise ill be stuck driving a rusty 89 probe with 232k miles for a very long time.......

lol. found this old thread. figured id give everyone an update!

im still driving that 242K mile! $25 probe. lol

i ended up getting $6700 from her insurence for my car. and they let me keep it for a month while i stripped all my parts off. the ONLY part i left on it was the springs because of the damage, they couldnt be removed. ive allready made over $1k off the aftermarket toys that were on it, and still have the seats, trans, turbo, and quite a bit left from the car.

i ending up buying one of my dream cars, a 90 mazda 626 GT turbo touring. (very rare, but very unknown) i flew out to new york to look at one, bought it, had it shipped back. (spent more looking at it, and having it shipped then what i actually paid for it!) been building it since!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/xxxmonoxidechild/626gt%20hatch/fe3turbo002_resize.jpg

JDM FE-DOHC, built motor, JE pistons, megasquirt v2.2, LSD. lots of goodies. basically, it destroys anything the tib could have made an effort at.

but i will say, i would rather have my tiburon back. it was my daily driver for over 6 years. i abused it, and it never let me down. now, i have a really fun car, but its just like my built up probe turbo. its just a toy...... not really a DD beater i can abuse the **** out of, and put away wet... so i drive the slow *** beat up NON TURBO probe...

i miss my hyundai. just figured id update this since its almost been a year.
and i do miss all my hyundai family.

i actually test drove a 05 GK when i had my insurence check. i loved the car, untill i drove it..... my work truck has less blind spots. lol. and it was gonna max out the check, and get me into payments. (which ive NEVER had) and it was just too slow for me to get into payments for. i also heavily looked at contour svt's, and a few other choice mazda's. but once i realized i could find a clean GD body style 626 touring hatch, i had to go for it.

now, i think i should have either put the cash away, or bought an exact copy of my tib. but then, i probably wouldnt be happy cause it wasnt my original tib.

this is the $25 probe. ive put another 1k into it so far as basic upkeep. the rims, stereo, seats,, and so on all were left overs from my old probe, and a parts car i had. so i was able to mod it without spending anything.

i sold the manifold to the guy that bought my beta2 motor, full pulley set, cam gear and a few other toys. front mount is on the mazda 626gt. and the turbo is sitting on a shelf. have two friends wanting to buy it, but i have a feelings as soon as i sell it, ill regret it..

i did alot of research and saved along time to buy it. id really like another chance to shorten its lifespan if i could...
