It was my first solosport event last monday (may 13th) and to tell you the thruth, i got hooked on it. I can't wait to my next session. My car's gonna need some serious suspension tuning although.

Here's a picture showing why i need to tune my suspension.

It seems people who are into, it's motocross right?, really really enjoy it. How tough is it on your car ? What kind of risks do you take at these events

I think you meen autocross!

The worst case scenario; crashing it!! On that track, i was'nt able to go higher then 110 KPH (about 5000 RPM in third gear). It was a technical track. If you had a good line and nailed all corner apex, you could go much faster. Since it was my first time on a track, i did'nt push to far. Anyway, even if i had push, my car was already way over it's limit.

How tough is it on the car, you ask? Between each session, you have to torque your wheel lugnut because they get loose. Big time!! I had brand new 195/60R15 Falken ZIEX-512 and now they look like i've been running them for a year. Part of the thread have rip off. But, keep in mind that those are cheap sport radial tire. I'm gonna finish them of at the next event on july 15. Also you've got to have good brake. Brake fade is something to be expect. The OEM one may be good, but i suggest that you upgrade to ceramic compound in the front and metallic in the back.

And think about changing the fluid for a higher boiling point one like I said ;)

Also autocross = solo for us here

This is solosprint, so lapping ;)

Or something like that.

Freddy you are my hero :D

Looks like lots of adrenalin. They make solos in here but most of the people running are like Richie Rich so they don't care to smack your ride to win. They are very reckless and if somebody because is an as**ole crash with me, , I can beat his *** soo bad because I can't claim a damn.

Yeah, that's cool as ****.

Even when I took my stock car around the track at Summit Point with a pace car it was still fun and pretty intense. I can just imagine what it's like out there competing with others. Coolness.

What's the name of that track? Looks like an interesting one.

They do a lot more than that. There are also SCCA Time Trials ( http://www.scca.com/Club/index.asp?reference=timetrials ), club racing, etc, etc. Also take a look at NASA Time Trials ( http://www.nasa-tt.com/ ) and Redline Time Attack ( http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/index-5.html ). To get into this kind of racing you'll probably have to attend a High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) full day course and be certified by your instructor. Those rules will vary depending on what association you're planning on racing with.

In addition to all that, www.trackpedia.com can be a good resource if you want to see what kind of road courses are near you.

I just attended an event last week at http://www.shannonville.com/ as a passenger and it was a blast.

I will have to try this on myself with my own car this summer, the reason I didn't participate was b/c I still need to replace all my belts and complete a coolant flush before I start beating down on my car.

It really is a blast. And attending an HPDE is a good way to get started because instructors will be there to remind you (and everyone else) to stay safe and follow the rules regarding passing and such. So it's a beginner-friendly type of event and the risk of damaging your car is very low. At some events there will even be instructors providing in-car instruction which can be very helpful -- I still want to go to one like that.
