Hi. I need a keyless remote for my 2005 Elantra. I have one already, but I lost the spare. I am getting a spare key from the dealer, but I don't want to pay the dealer's price for a remote...which is over $100.00.

The website below claims to ship remotes that can be configured/programed inside the car. It states that the remote can be programmed using an onboard programming system in the 2005 Elantra. I just want to see if any1 knows if this is legit or if not, recommend another site where I can buy and program a remote.

Thanks in advanced!

Onboard programming was only available with the 01-03 model years as far as I know.

Really? So I would probably have to go to the dealer to get it programed? On another site, I think I read that it was available up to 05, but not 06 and above.

Yep. You can only program the 01-03 remotes by yourself. Anything afterward needs to be done at the dealer.

just buy one off ebay and then bring it to a dealer and just tell them your remote "doesn't work" and they may reprogram it for free or under warranty. But I thought u could reprogram it still on an 05.

Nope. XD2's have to be done at the dealer. As long as I've known, no one has been able to do it themselves.

Ok. Thanx guys. Does the site above look decent? I heard some not so good things about buying off ebay...where remotes were cracked, superglued together and what not.

I bought a new remote for my XD off of ebay and I had no problems. Just check the seller's feedback, make sure they have a good reputation.

Oh ok. I'll look into ebay as well then. Thanx:)

And did I mention that they wanna charge $110.00 JUST TO PROGRAM THE THING?! WTH?!

I'm gonna probably have to go to another dealer to get this thing programmed. Does any1 know if Hyundai branches keep records of what you do at various dealers? I mean, will another dealer know that I went to a dealer already and asked about keyless entry remote replacement? I wanna tell the new dealer that the thing just stopped working and have it programmed under warranty...

They can only check the work you've had done, not the questions you've asked. But $110 is ridiculous. Are you sure that's not including the cost of the remote? At my dealership we charge 1/2 hour labor ($41.50 +tax) to reprogram remotes.

I know most dealerships have just a set price for reprogramming keyless entries and the chips in keys. Normally the price goes down each model year.

Rider, I asked the guy at the dealer how much is it to program the remote. I told him i already have a remote, just need it to be programmed. He said $110.00 That IS really ridiculous. I'm gonna check out another dealer. Thanx
