Got my CAI installed 2 weekends ago, and I love the sound. However, I am taking it easy cause I hate the cost of gas, so only if I really really want to hear the growl of the intake will I give it to her. :drive:

I also had the problem with the intake touching the brake line, so I was feeling a vibration everytime I pressed the brakes. So this past weekend, I did a bit of cutting and was able to lift the intake about 1 or 2 cm off of the brake line. No more vibration! :D
How?

Move the battery to the side and towards the front of the car:
1. Cut the ledge off of the left side of the battery tray
2. Cut out the fastening holes so that the tray can move towards the front of the car
3. Get longer bolts and bigger washers (the shape of the battery tray near the holes will keep the bolts a few centimetres from screwing in all the way)

Also, move the fuse box upwards:
1. Cut off the tab holding the fusebox to the side of the car
2. Extend the hole in the right bracket of the fuse box

I figured that I might as well use the brackets that the intake guy supplied to keep it up off the brake line as far as possible.

Finished product:
(it sucks that they sent me the red connectors instead of the blue. Does anyone know where I might be able to get some for cheap? (not online))

I also painted the engine cover just for the heck of it:

Wow that looks great! I need to make some similar mods in mine. YOU probably used the same supplier as I did because I also received red instead of blue. Oh well. Can't complain for 33 bucks shipped right?

I like the contrast on your engine cover. That obviously took some time to do, great job.

On the intake side of things, great job too. On the fuse box, what I did (when I had my CAI) was just slot the holes on the fuse box itself so I could slide it upwards. I have a MAF car, so my bracket went to the bolt on the shock tower where the fuse box is and held onto one of the clamps holding the MAF and pipe together.

Great job though.

As far as blue connectors, I've always gotten mine at Autozone, however, they don't have 2.75" ones, all they have are one kind, 3" with an inserted adapter to narrow it down to 2.5".

thanks
the paint job took a lot of time and patience, but it was worth it in the end. Searched around and didn't find anything like it, so I did it

"slotted" - that's the word I should have used. I slotted one of the holes of the fuse box.

looks good but what you need to do is get a bottle of degreaser and clean that whole engine bay...Simoniz makes a good interior treatment and protector that does the job perfectly...dirty dirty engine!!!

yeah that engine cover IS nice.

I did the same thing with mine but I used a paintbrush to carefully do the 3d part, how the hell did you manage it? need some tips!

used some painter's tape, and a whole lotta attention to detail. first, I covered up the letters and used an exacto knife to press the tape against the edges of the letters and cut out the parts that don't need to be covered.
I ended up using a lot of small pieces of tape
I painted the blue, then took off the tape
Then I covered the blue area using the same method and painted the silver.

It took a few hours just to do the taping, and even then, I didn't do a great job. I really should have sanded the silver paint off and primed before applying the blue, because the blue flaked off a bit around the letters.

The engine is dirty? didn't notice... :D
I'm swiping a bottle of degreaser from work today and I'll put in the time to make it all pretty.

Ugzz- Check out ebay , search for seller Eautoracing. That's where i got mine for about 33.00 shipped.

I got from the same supplier.
I guess if you want blue couplers, maybe you have to ask specifically for blue?

as for the couplers, one end of one of them is too small. I had to wedge it over the throttle body. I remember seeing other threads about this issue.

If you have an XD2 and dont want to mess with cutting and fitting, I'd recommend a V6 Tib CAI. Its more money but fits perfect.
$90 from tampa_teddy on ebay.
None of theirs up right now
There are cheaper but when its too cheap i question quality. IE You get what you pay for.

I suspect eautoracing uses a drop shipper. I emailed the seller when i received red and he said that their supplier was out of blue so they sent red instead. They gave me a 5 dollar refund though:thumbsup:
