View Full Version : Taillights Design

I had originally made my taillights fully tinted but i just started to begin to see how ugly it kinda looked and i wanted to spice it up a little. so what i did was use a whooooole bunch of tape and paint remover to come up with the design..
and here's how it looked:

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa297/chaldowhiteboy/4-1.jpg
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa297/chaldowhiteboy/4.jpg

but now, i even got sick of THAT and so i decided to make the design darker (i did the WHOLE process all over again):

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa297/chaldowhiteboy/6.jpg
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa297/chaldowhiteboy/6-1.jpg

it kinda looks funny in the difference in contrast of the camera but it doesn't make such a difference.
please, voice your opinions

Xd wners (reffering t 01-03) are doomed with this mod since it will be illegal due the t the difference of the taillights between xd and xd2. They need to be tinted cmpletetly.

I'm inclined to do my own custom lights destroiying some altima tail lights
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190117615147&rd=1,1
and some xd taillights with the smoked tail light covers made for them.

Need fiberglass mooulding and a lot of patience but I think that eventually I will do it.

yes! i did my friend's 01' tibby and they look freaking nice! if you live around san diego i could probably pitch in some of my time to do it for you!

Very nice...it's always more rewarding when you do it yourself, isn't it?

yeahhhh. i felt like i finished a marathon when i finally completed both of the lights! when i was just done with one of them.. i was like "ughh i still have another one to do, and i totally forgot!"

i like it what did you use to do to it?

it is the same type of paint you use to paint interior pieces, inside headlight pieces, and such things like that. you can make it as light as you want, and you can make it as dark as you want. the darker it is, the glossier finish it has. however, you can always put a clear coat to make it glossy if you want it light.

I did a similar mod to my xd tails. But when it went into primer i Took some laquer thinner and removed it to go with the custom rear eyelines look. I'm hoping to get and xd2 trunk lid and tails to see if they fit.S i can do this mod again it looks killer on your ride so i'm convinced now.......

what rear side marker are you talking about.. ? the hatchbacks have the rear side marker.. not my gls sedan.

yeah i did it on the outside. there is noway to get inside of the lights unless you break the red plastic thing in there away from it. it's nothing like that, it is not as hard as you think.

all i did was take them out from the car and sprayed the paint onto them then i waited for the paint to dry and i positioned and covered the parts with tape that i wanted to stay black and i used the thinner stuff to rub out the dark parts that i didn't want. the circle part was the hardest to erase because i basically did that part without using tape (kinda hard to make a circle out of tape).

the paint will NOt chip. when i first sprayed my taillights, it was a month after i got my car, and that was two years ago. my paint was the same exact color as it was originally; so also, no fading. it would look awesome on your xd2 but are you choosing to do it with black or silver?

i don't want to offend you or say something to make you feel stupid, but why don't you just buy an XD2? ..it's better than going through all of that trouble especially with all the time and money that you will have to put in just to make what you want happen..

I dont like the xd2 front ends for some reason they make me cringe when i look at them. I think it' the grill being different or something and i could get a deck lid for like 30 bucks at the local scrapyard.

You can call it whatever you like, it doesn't change what it is. Just don't let me catch you saying something "un-christian-like", 'cause you'd better believe I'll call you out on it...

I'm sorry. I just hate living in the bible belt. Every other car I work on has either a rosary hanging from the mirror, jesus fish on the bumper, or a prayer/psalm taped over the warning indicators on the dash (I guess jesus is more important than the check engine light...). Most of them are hypocrites that use their "understanding of the bible" to tell other people why what they're doing is wrong...

look ricer, i didn't come on this forum to judge you, and i havn't judged you, so please don't try to tell me what kind of person i am. i'm sorry that you have a problem with these hypocrites that don't live out what they preach. i have that "forgiven" emblem on my car because i'm forgiven. simple as that. if you "catch" me doing something "un-christian-like" then oh well, i didn't say i'm perfect; im just human. end of story. i'm not going to get more into this especially since this forum was about my taillights.

p.s.- those kind of hypocrites bug me too, but it doesnt mean that i have to rag on them. i actually TRY to be more "christ-like." and that is what this "religion" (Christianity) is all about.

kinda supposed to be there, and deleting your position lights isn't the brightest idea (pun may or may not be intended). EVERY car has side markers among all the other lights. Kinda a law thing.

sorry i didn't know that it was called the side marker..

the side marker glows through the paint. the paint turns transparent when the light comes on so it doesnt matter.

SuperGLS
05-30-2007, 10:34 PM
It's not called a sidemarker in this application. Basically we like to refer to it as "the extra stupid light in the taillight" since nobody likes it.

The whole idea of tinting the taillight is illegal, that's obviously not a concern for chaldo.

I don't think he'll catch any crap for this. Some of us have the vinyl or plastic covers which darkens the entire light. If anything i'd say he's a step ahead buy keeping the major parts crystal clear.
