ok so i want to build a wall to put infront of my sub and box.

i know somepeople have done it and cut out an oval hole so youcan see the sub still. i was thinking about just cuttin out the logo of the speaker and backlighting it with some blue neons or leds.

i searched and couldnt really find a way to mount it. i thought about just screwing it stright onto the front of my box but then i couldnt backlight it. mabey some spacers?

also what would be good to use i was thinking mabey some 1/4"-3/8" ply wood(i know its not good for building boxes but i figured it would be light and cheap) or sould i use MDF?

Depends on the size of your backlights. Let's say you are using a typical neon tube. It's width will be about 1 1/2", I'd leave space for 2".

Use strips of about 1" width on the side of the box (in front) and in 2 areas on top and 2 areas on the bottom (all in front) and then mount your facing to that. Make sure those strips will give you a depth of 2".

Hurry up and get it finished, some of us may want to see your finished product. Also, wrap it in either black carpeting to match the trunk or in vinyl, which ever is cheapest for you or meets your needs.

a proublem i see myself running into is that the front of my box it slanted its not flat so when you look at it the sub is looking you in the face insted of stright towrd your body. so i dont know if i want to have the front wall at the same angle or just stright up and down. i really think either would look good i may have to make some timplates from cardbord and do one each way. i may post pics to get some opinions from people.

im pretty sure ill end up using regular neon tubes but i might go with LED so i can pull the power from the trunk light so that the light is only on when the trunk is open.(mabey just tap into etacs unit.

im also working on making a new floor for the bottom of the trunk the stock bord isnt strong enough when my is in. it collapses and i dont have a spare tire right now so it falls. im going to put some hinges on the flor bord so i can just lift at the front and about 2-3 foot will open like a trap door so i can get to the spare tire when i get it fixed.. ill try to post some pics. but right now untill i get going on this tey will just be MSpaint pics. but it will give you the geniral idea.

ok heres the MSpaint of the floor bord i want to do. the grey in the middle are the two hinges and the two spots that stick out on the sides will be seprate peices of wood.

ill try to mock up the cardbord walls tomarrow and get some pics.

Hey, if you want to make the panel flat, vertically, it shouldn't be a problem. You would just add some extra pieces of wood at the top to bring the top of the panel out to vertical. I hope you understand what I'm saying. The only way I can graphically show you is for me to do it on my graph paper, but it won't scan that well (tried it before).

I'll see what I can drum up for you. I mean, if you've got $40 or $50 lying around, you could knock this out this weekend in just a couple of hours, depending on how mechanically inclined you are with wood working.

^i agree, that would be simple and you woudnt see the spacers.

ive seen little walls, but the ones i see are either fiberglass or the 1 wood one i saw was somehow tied into the sides of the trunk, not the subs. It sat real close to the box though, with a custom logo cutout that was large so you could see the subs behind it. It was a simple single oval cutout just big enough so you could see the corners of each sub, but if you looked at an angle you could see the whole thing. It was ok, but was just simple wood painted black and cut, not a great sanding job either. but cooler then my wall, cause i dont have one hah

well i already priced the wood im just gonna use 3/8 or 1/4 ply wood. and i have all the tools. jig saw, router, belt sander, dremmel, spray gun for the glue, and i have planty of leftover scrap 2X4 to make the spacers from.

a buddy of mine and i are gonna build our own box.(i cant get a shop to build the right size one for my sub for under 150.) were gonna get some carpet from ebay so im gonna use the leftover carpet. so i cant wait to get everything done.

i think im gonna do my new floor before i do the sub wall. i wanna make sure the wall wont effect the opening of the floor. hopefully i will be able to do something this weekend ive had my daughter most of this past weekend so all i could get done was a little bit on making a grill. but i think im gonna scrap that idea because i cant get it to look right and i dont wanna do the DIY. i dont want to cut my stock grill.

on a side note does anyone have anylinks to pics of this type of wall? i cant really find anything ive looked on here and ive google image searched it but nothing really turned up.

This all sounds pretty good but w/ the subs, new floor, and a wall your car is gonna sag like crazy! Mine did w/ just a pair of 12's in a pretty standard enclosure.

well my enclosure is pretty small only 1.5ft X 1.5ft and the wall and floor are only gonna be made from a sheet of 1/4 or 3/8 ply wood no frame for the floor or anything.

im just going to cut a peice thats as wide as the back of the trunk and make it go from the back to the front. then im goint to make the 2 small peices to fill the front corners then im just going to cut ther long peice right infront of my subs and put some hinges so i can lift to get to my spare tire.

the way i figure it is even if i go thur the trouble and it dosent really work im only out about 8 bucks. i already have the hinges and im going to use the carpet thats on the bottom of the trunk already im just going to cut and glue it. im not really worried about the weight right now mabey ill do a thicker sub wall when(or if) i get a capcitator(spelling?).

well my car dosent really sag at all with just my amp and i dont think the wall and floor will add too much weight the way i figure it i should be able to use one sheet of ply wood for all of it. the sheet is 4' by 8' and the longest part i will need is 3' 2" so it should work out good.
