Definitely sucks. Interesting that it broke like that. I'm sure if you wait a while you can find a better deal on eBay, but that's probably not the smartest thing to do. I have some red vinyl if you are interested as a "patch" until you can get a taillight.

I think that's retarded. Why would it be their fault?

yeah its not their fault. people try that at homedepot all the time but they park right next to the cart return area and expect nothing to happen. Things like that are the reason i park WAAAAAY in the back of any parking lot. My friend had his tailight broken like that too but on a firebird and the whole lens was in pieces next to his car. I don't understand why people just can't walk thier carts to the return area to prevent stuff like that from happening. And you can try http://www.car-part.com for tailights too

I manage a grocery store. When a customer says that their car has been hit by a cart we usually pay for the repairs. The only thing we check is that the height of the damage matches up with a cart. If something doesn’t feel right I sometimes check the security cameras.

I know most grocery stores near me post a sign stating: "Private Parking, Park at own risk." Something to that extent and this lets them not be liable for cart damage.

well its basicly the same as if somebody gets hurt in your yard, you could be held responsable for the "damages"

I bit** about this everytime we go grocery shopping and there are carts everywhere. WTF! The American consumer has become the laziest known being on the planet! People that park one spot away from the cart return can't return their damn cart's! My idea is that shoppers caught leaving their cart should be ticketed. You know, like $10. Not a lot, but enough to make them think next time.

At all the grocery stores around here there are "If your car gets ****ed up it ain't our responsibility" signs all over the place.

I agree about people being stupid if they can't put them back.

My wheels dont cost me a pay cheque either, but thats not the point. Good for you taking care of the environment, we need it now-a-days...especially with me running rich with no cats at all...oops did I say that out loud!

I know here in Canada that anything that happens in a parking lot is covered out of your own pocket. Parking lots are HIGH risk areas and insurance companies dont like to look at accidents/incidents that happen there. None the less, that sucks to have happen, when I got dinged last year in a parking spot I almost **** in my pants I was so mad.

From what I understand, an accident that occures in a parking lot can be resolved between the people involved with no cops and they dont need to be reported as it's not an accident that happened on the road. Your insurance policy may not cover damage that happened in a parking lot but most stores have a policy that covers the cars in their lot.

Very true, there are policies in place that a stores insurance may cover damages but there are stict guidelines that need to adhered too. It has to be due to negligence of the store or a problem with the physical lot.
