Yeah, but, look, I understand the whole "helping people" thing.

But... what does it change in your life? If you get personal enjoyment out of it then that's cool. But other than that, I find it useless.

Let's take the video for example.

While I'm walking one morning to work I see a hobo. I buy him a soda. He's happy. For about 30 seconds until he drinks it or until the fellow hobo's beat the crap out of him to steal it. Anyways, the next hour, the next day, he will be the same hobo. He will still be sitting there. What happens? I am out of a soda which I could've drank myself, to hydrate my body. The hobo will stay a hobo and will die a hobo.

Call me egocentric, but USUALLY, people who want to help the world and travel the poor countries are people who have no social lives, have a very poor love life (or cannot find a soulmate), and have the constant urge to compensate with something else. Take mother theresa for example.

let me just share with you what i do every sunday night. i go out to downtown san diego and just basically sit down and talk to homeless people. i get them something to eat, drink, and if they need it, a blanket. these homeless people have nobody. if they did, they wouldn't be on the streets. my point is that when i just sit down and talked to these homeless people, they were encouraged to do good for themselves. they actually had hope that they had the chance to get back on their feet. that right there is my part.. of course i care with what they are going to do with their lives now, but it's up to them. some will start over again for a better life and some will decide not to try hard enough. but like i said, i did my part in showing them that there is another chance, and that there is hope.

Yeah but you going on sundays wont change anything. We have 24 hour "popular soup" places and shelters and whatnot... And guess what very little hobo's get out of their lives, they chose to live the life they are living. I mean, before heading off to the streets, you can just go out and get a job at mcdonalds for minimum wage, but, no, they were too good for that, so they abandoned everything and went in the street. Then they are ****ed because then need a crap load of money to even get a job since they dont have an ID, address, social ins. number, clothing, etc...

It's all about choices and determination.
