So i picked up a 30pack of memorex printable surface cd-r's today and i guess you can print directly onto the cd with an inkjet printer. how does this even work? i have an epson cx6000 printer/scanner and the paper bends as it is fed through.

Your printer has to support direct CD-r / DVD printing. I dont think the CX6000 does but i could be wrong. You would know if it does cause it comes with a tray to hold the disc in that would feed in to print on.

Just consult the Epson website or your local printer place they should be able to tell you...

Edit just checked and no it doesnt print direct to CDr's

i have an epson stylus photo r200 i got off ebay to print onto cd's. it has a tray that slides into the printer and prints the image onto the disc. it was cheap when i bought it 2 years ago and the quality is really good. I used it to make cd -face art for local artists for promos.

i have the R-200 also.. when i got it 2 years ago it was like 99 dollars..

If you want to spend money, get a color thermal printer (uses film instead of ink) that supports CD printing... but plan to spend around $1000...

for blank cd-r's that are printable but don't have 'brand name' text inside... go to Diskmakers.com.... they have really great service. as well as Silver Dye CD-r's... (so people don't see the green bottom and toss it in the trash)..

lightscribe takes forever, even the newer ones :P

the r200 is an ink EATER! even with refill inks i go through it quick. also my r200 cleans the heads at every turn on and off and wastes like 1/10 of the ink each time.. so 10 power downs and ups all of the cartriges need replaced.. so i just leave it on :P

just bought refurb ink for it , but it wont take it. i keep gettin a incompatibility error buy epson ink :P

i hate lightscribe, i hate the r200, i hate thermal printers. we paid 2500 for a thermal printer and it streaks everything with banding just like a cheap inkjet would. Best lables ive done come off that damn r200, awesome quality labels but the ink nightmares!

im going to sell the thing and look into a canon that prints lables and has multiple cartiges. :P after working with printing and in a minor production like setting for 2 years now. im a canon guy all the way. and as for media i only shop taiyo yuden white printable media. got it cheap from www.supermediastore.com

btw, im a picky bastard i just noticed lol

My lightscribe takes no more than 10 minutes for a fully detailed burn.

If that's too long for you to burn that much detail onto a CD, then you're too damn impatient.
