I am seriously considering buying this car!!!! it's an 03 with less miles than the xd and for $6500 . I test drove it and fell in love today if i can talk to the wife into it what do you guys think? I love sedans and want nothing more than an evo so why not the next best thing? I'm gonna keep the xd being that it's the first car iv'e owned and it's not a cookie cutter car. I love hyundais and will be dedicated for life but a deal like this SHHHHHHHHHHHHi****************** .:D

a lancer is definitely (sp felix?) not "the next best thing" to an evo
when i was searching for some OZ wheels (the 15's) on the mitsu forums, i saw that with pretty good n/a mods, they hardly cleared 110whp. ****ing weak

The plain-jane lancer is ugly as sin, and no-where near a performance vehicle; like it's grown-up brother the Lancer Evolution. You'd be trading off the Elantra for Mitsubishi unreliability. It may have a couple more available parts, but I don't see this as a good move.

good to know!!!!!!!! i like the lancer but i didn't have as much fun driving it as i do with the xd I LOVE MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!! (but i hate it too) I really liked the fact that the lancer is a short throw 5 speed but i dont like the fact that it has considerably less trunk space than the xd..and i need that for strollers and toys and laundry...(and my cooler full of beer) If i were to buy it i think i would only do I/H/E and be done with it.......

My mom has a 2002 lancer that she bought from me. We've owned it since 2701 miles. We've had NO problems with it. The only time it's been to the dealer was for a recall. Other than tires and oil changes, not a dime has been spent maintaining this vehicle.

as i say with most vehicles. what usually determines how reliable a car is or isn't is the driver and how well the treat the car. if you just do tires and oil changes and drive it like a normal person and don't run it hard it'll be fine like adam's car but if you dog it and beat the ever living **** out of it you're goin to have problems.

I've yet to come across a Lancer I can't beat, so I'll let that speak for itself. Also, I was once stock, and they never had a chance then.
Not to mention, the Lancer is a girls car. Unless of course you buy the new Lancer MT-S (I think that's what it is called), that's the baby Evo, for sure.

Hyundai quit using the Mitsu drivetrains for a reason you know...

well I know that mitsubishi's new lancer has the 4b11 which is an all aluminum version of the 4g63. It was built with hyundai.:D. So maybe i'll wait and get a new lancer in a year after they work out the bugs from the first model year.

The new Lancer engine is not just an all aluminum update of the previous one. It is the "World" engine that Hyundai designed. (called "Theta" by Hyundai).

You just answered your own question there.

Yeah the older Lancers really suck. Even with a 5-speed, they are slow. I like the looks of the newer ones because they actually look like the EVO minus a few parts. But I still really doubt I would ever buy one.

hyundai designed the engine? I thought it was a joint venture?

It was, but most of the R&D and original prototypes were done by Hyundai.

^^^Yeah. My understanding is Chrysler and Mitsu mostly provided money for Hyundai to R&D the World Engine. Then each manufacturer modified it slightly to meet their needs. You'll notice the World Engine in each maker is slightly different, but key components are the same.

And it's those little differences that make the hp/tq difference pretty huge. I like the 2.4L world motor. The Mitsu version is MIVEC, I wonder if the other manufacturers use the MIVEC system as well.
