Do you have the adapter harness and connector, or is your original audio connector gone and you are splicing wires?

If you have the OEM connector there, then what exactly are you wiring.
Are you wiring the CD Player's harness to an adapter harness? The wiring colors you mentioned sound exactly like a CD Player's wiring harness. You have to buy an adapter, wire it to the CD player, and then plug into OEM plug.

Same. Took me about 4 minutes to install the headunit once I had one of those.
ditto.. extra cost = bad.. but 5 min install = good
worth the money imo

the last car I had (chevy corsica) was a PITA to install because of the non-standard stereo install. I cut my fingers pretty bad trying to get the stock metal cage out.
SO happy that Hyundai uses a common size for their stereo slots.
GET THE HARNESS. once you pop off the dash (just a few screws by the speedometer) and take the screws out for the stock stereo... a few connections to make (you have to splice the wires... use some of those connectors you squeeze to secure, $5 @ any hardware store) ...it's done. no guessing about what wire is what. VERY easy. also makes for an easy uninstall (if you ever upgrade or go back to stock).
a few connections to make and splicing wires.. what do you mean? i didnt touch anything at all, it was pure harness and go, or do you mean your old car?

I had to splice wires from my headunit to go into the elantra's connector.
the harness = wires+connector
so my setup:
headunit|==spliced-wires==[connector-{ }-elantra connector.....
but since the harness was made for my headunit, the wires were the same. I just had to get little pink connectors to put the wires together.
ah ok i see. i bought a new hu a few years ago and everythign was perfect.. pure plug and play
then when i got the elantra and bought the harness adapter all was just as easy. didnt have to touch a single wire
and on the note of plug and play even if you do upgrade to a new HU if you stick to the same brand eg, sony/pioneer/alpine whatever. you *might* be lucky enough to even use the same HU harness. so talk about some real plug n play hehe. my old sony and my new sony were like that on my last car. just bought the new unit pluged it into the hu adapter and i was off.. course in that car the hu adapter was spliced into each of the cars wires one by one lol

MIne wasn't that easy, I had to connect the headunit wires to the harness. But it's not rocket science...so I had it done pretty quick.

that's exactly what I had to do. once you get the hyundai harness wired to your head unit, it'll just snap into the car's stereo connector. took me 5 minutes (I actually did it in the bestbuy parking lot, lol).

Hahah! Same here, man. I was way too impatient to take it home, I cracked my dash open right there in the parking lot.
Good times.
well i lucked out and they had a harness that required nothing more then a quick press to lock it in place then they had a sony harness that went right into that one. so yes, there are two harnesses, from factory hyundai to a 2nd adapter that went right into my hu. so i didnt actually have to use the harness that came with my sony at all.. it was swankadelic!
and as for working in the parking lot, ive installed 2 hus in parking lots, one at bb and one at cc, and both required wire clamps and other tools lol. and i also had my door panels off in a CC parking lot and switched out some older coaxes right there two..
i used to keep enough tools in my car so that if you broke in you can take everything apart nice n easy using my tools lol - but now with the elantra i like the way it looks all clean so i keep minimal items in the trunk and nothing in the car other then some fuses etc in the glove

I have 2 toolboxes and 1 computer tool bag in the back of my elantra.
also I have 2 new rear rotors and a set of pads. and some misc parts like bulbs and hose clamps.
anyone want my current location too?

Same. Took me about 4 minutes to install the headunit once I had one of those.
You must not have soldered the wires then. A wiring harness for a CD player takes me about 30 - 45 minutes, I solder every wire. Sound quality is always better when you solder, and not just twist the wires together. Is this what you did?

I coupled them with these pink things that snap onto the wire and have to be pinched with pliers... sure it isn't "as good as soldering" but my ears can't tell the difference.
take an electrical connection.. lets say a high quality amp, thats a good draw source, hook it into a NICE ups or one of those plugin devices with a digi display that reads the exact draw.. then cut the wire, and 1. twist it back together, 2. use crimps to put it back together, 3. soldier it back together.. Do all three then CRANK the amp and check your readings.. they will be the same each time. As long as you buy GOOD crimps with high conductivity and as long as your twisted wires have all surface area used and a good connection. Actually in cases where there is a TON of extra wire i even started stripping a few inches of wire from each side and tieing a knot in the wire then using heat shrink tubing to cover the bear wire.. once you make a wire knot, the wire itself will give before the knot does if you double it over. i do that above soldering if i have enough wire..
also most solder i see people use isnt the good silver stuff its crap solder anyway, its no more pure then a crimp connector from advanced auto :P -now the silver stuff is good ****, i do use that stuff when i need to solder.. but in most cases i find other ways of getting the job done that dont involve the time and care and possability of burning myself with a 1000 degree butane torch

bugger you did the dodgey way, here is a hint i got these cost me 50c for 12 you just plug them into the factory plug and you can install a headunit in a minute http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r112/TeAmShonKyRoo/connector.jpg
you just plug them in and your ready to go, and you can just pull them out when you put the factory headunit back in

Yep that's what I did Solder;)
i still say to ask around bb and cc, casue if they have those specific alpine/sony/pioneer whatever adapters strait to the elatnra adapter.. i think thats just smart money.. i mean click click and your done.. if you dont count taking the dash off then its like a sub 1 min install! hehe
*man i was just doing some googles trying to find em, and they are hard to find!
