View Full Version : Separate 2 way speakers
I just bought a pair of Pioneer 150 watt separate 2 ways ( same as whats in the door now, only made by Pioneer ) should I be a cheap lazy so and so and just swap the speakers and tweeters and leave the stock resistor / capacitator thingo what ever it is in place, or fit all of whats in the Pioneer box? Thoughts? I`ve got limited time to do any work on the car lately.

I don't understand about what you mean about "fit all of whats in the Pioneer box"? Do you mean you can mount the tweeters separately?
If so, I'd mount the tweeters on the sail panels (inside where the mirrors mount) up high on the doors. It shouldn't be hard to run them up there, and it will improve the stereo imaging.
Nah, the passive cross over thingy. Err, we have a passive cross over in the door, non? Spose I`ll have to look.

Ah... I misunderstood. You're talking about using the Pioneer crossover rather than the stock Hyundai one. I agree with JhOn -- I don't think you'll hear a difference, so just using the stock crossover (if one exists) should be fine.
If there is no stock crossover, it shouldn't be hard at all to use the Pioneer one.

lol that is the worst advice i have heard, run your pioneer crossovers they are designed for the poineer woofer and tweeter and not a cheap like the stock things, I find pioneer splits abit midbass heavy so mount the tweeters in the pillars to make the tweeters brighter
Well, it does`nt look like rocket surgery to fit the Pioneer X over, but the tweeters will be fitting where the stockers lived. It`s just easier to put them there, from the looks of things. The Pioneer 2 ways I stuck in the back are, to put it mildly, a bit better than the stockers even through the stock H.U.
There isn`t much point in me going the whole hog and getting amps and subs, I use the trunk too much and don`t want the wieght either.
I reckon what I`ve got will sound good enough for me, when it`s all fitted.

Could always run a small 4 channel just to umph up the pioneers a bit. Even if you don't have subs you can still get some thump in your sound system and do it pretty cheap to boot.
Well, I pulled the door trim off to inspect, the Pioneer wiring and passive X over is no drama to use, but to put the Pioneer tweeters in the stock location will be a bit of a fiddle. The stock ones are tiny, and the cover is a concentric looking dealy. Had I known I`d end up possibley with the tweeters just above the woofers, its not going to work on top either really, I`d have gone with 2 or 3 way speakers not separates.
I`m going to consult the guy at the shop, I just don`t have the spare time to chase it all down and I want it done basically. I screw around fixing crap at work on the truck, loaders and excavator, I just can`t be bothered using my very limited spare time on it.
if you look around the forum youll see many people with seperates in the doors. they use the stock location but they knock out the stock tweeter grille so your not mounting the tweeter behing the panel, more of in the panel, like a surface mount install. those who take the time to do it that way look way awesome. mine are just CRAMMED behind the door and have a bracket built to hold them in place. it ws a pita and i had a local shop help out with the bracket.
but i specifically wanted to keep the stock look casue i park in some nasty places..

+1, ugzz, not so much ugly places, I just wanted good sound stock look. Seeing how I`ve had 3 days off in the last 6 weeks or something, it`s going into the shop to be done today. Guy seems confident he can do it, I tell you if I go in there and he`s put the tweets above the woofer I`ll spew. We`ll see.. I had the door trim off on sunday, it looked do able, he should`nt have any real drama.
how about this, i know its not stock but you cant really see them from outside and they bring the stage height up nicely

All in, tweeters behind the stock grills, sounds really good. I`m happy. :D
|200 thats awesome as hell, but even though its pretty clean i still think its a "steal me" sign. i mean if you got custom pods you got nice speakers hehe
and jh0n, glad you got em in and your happy. i think the stock locations sound good, my last car had the tweets above the door panel at the edge of the window right near the side mirrors. i DO think it sounded slightly better for staging n all, but i still think the ports in the door panels sounds damn good also. im happy with the elantra locations, setup, layout etc..
