Taillight question

Hey guys... just a question... i have a 02 4dr xd.. and i want to put the xd2 taillights... would they fit.. has anyone done it ?

You'll need the fenders and trunk lid to make them work. They are a different design on top of the tail light.

Yeah, unfortunately the will not fit. Also, there is an extra bulb in the XD2 (04-06) lights. Of course, you wouldn't need to hook it up, although then it wouldn't be legal.

Yup, this was tried when the XD2 came out. The full thread is probably in the archives.

To augment what BColeman said, the mounting pins on the XD2 tail light lenses don't line up with the XD holes, even. Someone tried it and ended up breaking off the alignment pins, and still the lens didn't fit the fender cutout and trunk line.

im actually rather confused by this comment bcoleman and a lil dissappointed in you....NO YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE THE FENDERS TO FIT THE TAIL LIGHTS......lol....trunk lid yes....

This is, of course, referring to the sedan. The hatchback ones are interchangable.

Havro said that the tail light won't fit without cutting off two posts on the tail light, There's a missing wiring connection and that the trunk lid hits. The trunk lid from an XD2 may or may not line up with the fenders of an XD2.

I think that if you change the trunk lid and the rear bumper it should work. I have installed a 04-06 M&S bumper on my car and it was modifed on the area werer the trunk lid closes to make my trunk lid fit. Also those 04 tail lights are smaller than 01-03 in width (from the quater panel to the trunk lid). If any one has a friend with a 04 and has a 01-03 model they can try to carefully interchange the trunk lids, rear bumper and tail lights and see the difference if there is any in the quater panels. And give us the feedback and pics.

Some one with access to a junkyard and some time to spare could do us the favor, too.:redface:
