and i was pretty sure it was pretty good.
go out today to look for some new furniture. the stuff i have now is from when my parents bought our old house, so its probably pushing 12 years old. my cats have torn it up, so i decided to look for something new
go to a few places, found some stuff i liked, but wouldnt fit in my living room (odd shape/space)...finally find something at sofa express, about 800$ for a sectional w/ a chase (sp?) lounge seat on the end. 10% off deal got me the couch for 720, another 180 for the color i want since it was a custom order, then like another 250 or so for delivery/scotch guard/tax...all together, about 1150. i saw walking in theyre having a no payments/no intrest for 48 months financing deal. being that im doing whatever i can to raise my credit up, i decide to go this route. g/f happened to be in the area, so she came over and decided to cosign to build hers up a little
so he tells me for the custom order, i would have to put down like 300$. not a problem. put that on my credit card...total amount to finance? 847.99. go fill out the app, a min later, he comes back and tells me i was denied. WTF!? i just bought my car w/ no cosigner (about 9800 financed) and got 10.9%. not bad for hardly any credit. so i tell him to get the finance company on the phone
talk to urmish mehta derka derka from india, and he tells me im denied. i ask him for a reason, and all he tells me is "due to information from credit reporting agencies"...will not tell me why. i tell him to ask his manager to review it, comes back a minute later, says im still denied. WTF!? mind you between me and my g/f, we bring in about 50k/yr. not much, but not little either.
so i ask this guy for his manager, at this point im fairly pissed...he puts me on hold for about 5 minutes, comes back, asked for the merchant, so the office manager/whoever gets back on the phone, salesman comes back a minute later and says "looks like they got it done"
HA!. basically, they knew they had no reason to deny me for 850$, and when i was getting ready to blast them for not even giving me a reason, they must have gave in and decided to change their mind
so ill finally have some new furniture next month, and a couple declawed cats so it wont get torn up
heres the couch (mine will be in black, not this taupe color)...im stoked. the stuff we have now absolutely sucks

Why would you have your gf co-sign for your couch, for your apartment? Sounds like a risky venture if things dont work out.

shes been living here since febuary man. lol. i know its a bit of a risk, but hey, you gotta take risks in life
i figure if it doesnt work out (which im not counting on), we'll be able to come to some sort of agreement. theres other things that are both ours, like the 2nd cat we got, and a few other things

You just did... Everything was fine with us for 2 1/2 years.... you haven't made it half that.... The only thing you can fight with is that at least its a lot smaller of a bill than mine was... but It could still **** **** up... Unless I'm married, I'm never NEVER cosignin with a g/f or fiance, or w/e the hell she is... EVER.... That **** done ****ed me up... Be lucky its only 850....

On my personal opinion, I've been trough the gf cosigning thing many times and in 2 of the ocations the relationship didn't work out so I kept the debts and part of the stuff.
Common is an 850.00 bucks deal not an 8500.00 deal and he would have the person he loves with him. Thats not a debt any man could bare, just don't cosign for something expensive like a car, a credit card with big line of credit, a personal loan bigger than 1k or a house unless your married.
850 is not a big deal specially when in a vacation you will spend more than that with whoever is your mate at the time.

I didnt know they lived together. I thought it was still a casual relationship. Thats why I didnt understand how/why you would get your gf to cosign for anything.

You should have saved yourself $250 and bought a couple cans of scotchguard and borrowed a pickup and hauled the furniture yourself. It's too easy to spend when you're buying it on time so be careful.
Actually, is that leather or a microfiber? If it's leather, you don't want it scotchguarded because the leather needs to absorb oils to stay supple and prevent cracking.
That's a nice piece of furniture. I can picture myself sprawled out on it while I watch DVDs. There's room for two and you don't even have to touch! lol

Just because we are on this situation, I wouldn't cosign nothing for nobody, except my wife (who wouldn't need me too).
But, looks like a nice couch. My wife bought our couch and it was $800, then she bought a big chair and an ottoman about a year later that was nearly the same amount. Talk about a waste of money. Of course, it is all extra super comfy so I guess it's worth it. But, at the same time, I still don't have an HDTV or an xbox 360 (looking to remedy that last one soon).

I think we paid somewhere around $1,800 (in 2004) when we bought our couch, loveseat, and chair (all matching microfiber). They had 0% going on, so we decided to finance it and paid a whopping $51 a month until I got tired of writing checks to them and paid it off last year.
Store credit cards are some of the most difficult things to be approved for. Purchasing your car could have negatively affected your credit, since you now have a loan for something (without co-signer) you didn't before. Either that, or the picky-standards of department/furniture stores are higher than you current credit score. The reviewers in Pakistan (or wherever) probably don't have access to your full credit report, only a number - so they couldn't give you a reason, other than your number wasn't good enough.

its not leather, but it doesnt feel like microfiber either. the delivery is only like 79$, and the fact that i dont have a truck, or easy access to one, and the way the path to my apartment is shaped, id rather let them be responsible for a **** up. when you get to my building, you go into the breezeway, go up some steps do a complete 180 degree turn, then my apartment door is pretty much right above where the bottom of the steps start. i could probably do it with a couple people, but i dont feel like messing with this one
also, with paying them the 100$ to treat it, it takes the fabric warranty up to 5 years, and if they cant clean it professionaly, they will replace that piece. sounds fair to me

thats what i figured. i knew there was no reason to get denied, and when i put some pressure on them, they stopped their bs. its all good now

Ha. We paid for the same protection on our couches. So for 5 years they'd be looking like new. Then guess what happened? Homemakers went out of business. So, 2 years into my 5 years of free stain-removal protection, my extra money spent on the warranty was wasted. Stupid furniture stores. Homemakers had been around for a LONG time (like decades) with many stores. Seemed like a good place to buy from, but no. They all closed up and vanished from existence. Of course, I still had to finish paying what I owed for furniture though.
I don't think the company was pulling any BS or that they didn't have a reason. Their reason was: you credit score wasn't high enough. A manager, or whoever, can probably override the stated standard on occasion (like they did for you). Think about it: why would they want to deny people the ability to buy their products? I wouldn't think of it as they were trying to screw you, but rather you got lucky they were nice enough to approve you.

That's what I'm talking about. We just did the same thing. Bought new furniture, but no HDTV. WTF over???

if youve got the $ for something above, and can stand that color, that couch is only about 800$, and its comfortable as ****. IDK if you have sofa express out there, but if so, check it out
