Yep, I said it. It's like a 10yard sprint for a long distance runner.
Wifey and I decided that we were not in a hurry on our way out to NC. So we took US52 from Cincy to Huntington, WV and then on south to Bluefield at the Virginia border.
Wow. 180miles of the gnarliest, twistiest 2 lane highway on the planet (IMO). After 100 miles of "fun", the car and myself were ready for a break. Wife tried to take a couple videos from the passenger seat and if time permits (3-4 hours EACH) I'll upload them to you-tube.
Mucho fun. I say it's a "must see" for anybody that likes to cheat death!

I don't get the title of this thread. I've thought about it on two separate occasions now and still nothing.

"Tail of the Dragon" is a stretch of road that is 11 miles long and has 300 turns. It's become the new "Mecca" for road racing enthusiasts and motorcycle riders because of it's technicality and scenery. Look up Tail of the dragon on Google.
My point was, it's for wussies because it's only 11 miles and US 52 is just as technical but is 180 miles. Took us 4 hours.

Now, the first 30 miles isn't so tough. After that, all bets are off and those people will run you over!

Oh, that's pretty interesting I suppose. I wouldn't want to drive it in my mostly stock Elantra, that wouldn't be too much fun.

PLEASE read the first post again. 11miles of turns comparedto 180 miles of the same chit. LITERALLY wore me and the car out in 4 hours of driving. Home PC is trying to upload the 3 minute vid to youtube. That was just a small, SMALL taste of what US 52 was like.

sorry to tell you Bob, if you didnt do the 318 turns in 11 miles, then you were not driving/riding the dragon (deals gap). you were on another section/area. but im sure they are both equally matched as for driver/rider skill.
btw: did you run into any cops? ive been reading how the cops are starting to patroll deals gap/the dragon more frequently? also, did you see the tree with all the broken/crashed bike parts on it? im really hopeing not to leave my mark on that tree, or better yet any tree. lol

THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WAS NOT ON Tail of the DRAGON!!!
TAIL OF THE DRAGON IS ONLY 11 MILES. We DROVE 180 MILES OF JUST AS TECHNICAL AND TWISTY ROADS AS TOTD BUT IT WAS LONGER !!@
Damn, does no one read anymore?

Nope, sorry Bob, they don't.
But I will agree with you about US 52. I'm 3 minutes away from 52, in NC, near Winston Salem.
There are a ton of roads that are equally aggressive to the "Tail". Hell, when I went to Grandfather Mountain for Father's Day, the road up the mountain was the same way. I had a freakin' blast, and made my wife car sick for the first time.
Though the "tail" is very aggressive, so is the section you were talking about. And there is more freedom on that stretch of 180 miles to increase your speed, and will definitely put a strain on you.

Thanks to those that understand what I was saying.
I was amazed at the speeds the locals traversed these roads and in the chit boxes they were driving!

And the rarity with which law enforcement make their preference known.

1 cop in 4 hours and 180 miles. He was waving to the local pack of 4 wheelers running through town. I guess in WV riding a 4-wheeler is legal. Down the middle of the road.
Gorgeous country though, or at least that's what the wife said. All I saw was left, right brake, right, left, left, right brake, brake HARD, right, left, left, right brake. . . .

I'll join you bro. I've been itching to go, and I think I'll be going pretty soon too. Just a few more things for the car, and I'll be ready.
I have the following to do:
H&R springs
Install the KYB's I just won
Rear Tibby bar (mine is bent and now off the car)
Rear Sway bar (not sure which co. to get it from at the moment)
Swap wheels/tires with my wife's car
And then I'll be ready...
Bob, seeing only 1 cop is 1 too many. He was just out to see the sights, that's for sure.
And I liked your description of the driving you did, you made me feel like I was there in the car with you. Left right brake, right, harder right, brake real hard. Yep, I'm there with you...
