So I received my CAI today off EBAY. I take it out of the box and it's red. It was supposed to be blue. It also has no instructions in which is supposed to be included, don't really care cause I was going to use the DIY from here, but still. It also says that its a 94-00 CAI, which makes me to believe that it's for a V6 as it's only supposed to be 94-97, and all the V6 models are listed 94-00. Am I wrong in saying that its a V6 model. If I am I might install it anyways and get red gear for under the hood ( plug wires, ground wires) instead of the blue and just install it. Either way I am a little aggrevated and don't see this guy getting a good rating from me on his EBAY profile. What do you guys think?

Double check with the seller before doing anything.

yeah, i wrote him already. Ergh, this is just pissing me off. I really don't want to send it all back and wait again for it to arrive etc.etc. I have to think about changing my mind on the red to blue thing though. We'll see what they say when they reply to my email.

This was the sale link. The one I got looks like a v4 model as the tubing is bent the exact same way, and the VD models are a different shape all together. I think I am going go red instead of blue in the engine bay if this will fit cause I don't want to wait again, pay for return shipping etc.. As of right now I am going to paint the car black with blue flake, blue underlighting etc.. and hence the blue under the hood aswell, but it might be cool to have red under the hood for that little bit of contrast. These are all future dreams anyways. I don't know. I will have to wait till they respond to my email. On a side note, I've read the DIY, and I don't see where the red tube from the CAI pipe connects to on the other end?

It will fit, your going to have to cut the second pipe that goes into the fender alittle shorter, its the same with all accord intakes, i had to do the same

Reading his feedback now I see that he forgets the instructions a fair amount. I am going to go red cause i want to install this tonight, bu when installing and using the DIY on the site, where does the red tube from up near the start of the first tube go. It looks like it goes somewhere under the engine cover from some pictures on the site, but I an't see where it ends up connecting. Can someone let me know. TY

I don't quite understand?... The intake connects to the throttle body.

ok, you have the large metal tube that will connect to the throttle body, then on that tube there is this little connection where a ruber tube connects to. Where does that rubber tube connect to on the othe end? I hope you know wha I mean. lol

he is taking about the breather hose.
Just take off the engine cover, you will see 2 hoses coming off the back of the engine in between the intake manifold and the engine. The one you are looking for is closest to the throttle body, ie.: the one to the right. There should of been a hose there already connecting to your original intake. Just replace the original hose with the one provided with the new CAI and there you go.

lol ok, so I got out there, started taking it all apart, got all the stock pieces off and the battery out, then I realized that I forgot to buy more couplers and clamps for the MAF sensor install and since this is the only car, I had to put it all back together. I will get the extra couplers and clamps tomorrow and install it then, but when I was in there I saw something that I am not sure what to do with as I am not overly knowledgeable when it comes to my car. In the area where the CAI the goes through to the wheel well where the stock intake tubing is, when I take off the part in the engine bay, there is another tube that connects to it that goes down into the wheel well, and back in through a hole lower down, then back up the stops with an open tube by the side of the battery behind the headlight. Do I just remove all that tubing aswell, or what is that? I really hope that someone knows what I am talking about. Please help lol

take out the drivers side headlight completely. you'll see some more tubing and a rubber elbow that connects to a box. this is the resonator. you don't HAVE to remove this but it'll make more room. there are 2 or 3 pain in the as bolts you have to remove to get this out.
here's a picture that may help you see where the breather hose goes...

awesome, I will take it out. I figured I could just remove it as it was just a tube not connected to anything anymore, but thought I would make sure first. Thank you guys so much for your help.

Dont forget you will need to bang out the whole alittle and make sure you use a gasket around the edge of the hole in the fender to the CAI pipe does not rub against the fender hole.
I could not find proper sized couplers for a 2.75" pipe so I ended up using radiator hose that fit very well. If need be take the pipe in with you to make sure u get the right size.

if you don't have couplers or they don't fit, you can get some at autozone OR like I did on ebay (for $3 or so)
silicon couplers will give you a better seal than radiator hose. also you may want to buy T-clamps instead of the regular hose clamps.

yeah, I was in a couple stores tonight trying to find 2.75 inch couplers but with no luck. The first thing I am going to do is see if the seller will send me some for free since he screwed up and sent me the wrong color with no instructions. If that doesn't work I will have to get some from ebay. I was even debating buying 3 inch, cutting a section out then melting/glueing them back together to make 2.75 inch, but I am not sure if that is a good idea. Hpefully the seller will send me some for free. We'll see

Those black rubber plumbing couplers will fit 2.75". That's what I have on mine and have almost 4 years with no problems. The cheapo 2.5" couplers will also stretch to fit 2.75".
Don't forget for the MAF you should try to keep the distance from MAF to TB the same as stock.

I could only find either 2 or 3 inch plumbing couplers. Where did u find 2.75 inch ones??
mtlelantra
06-25-2007, 11:26 PM
Canadian Tire, Home Depot etc. The couplers meant for 2" ABS has an ID of 2.6" or something like that. You have to stretch them a little, but they fit just fine on my 2.75" intake.
saturn
06-25-2007, 11:44 PM
yeah same. plumbing standards are only 2 or 3 inch. I personally couldn't get the 2" to fit on my 2.5" pipe. that's why I had to order ones from ebay.

I was at Canadian Tire and all they had was 2 or 3 inch in the entire store, from what they told me anyways. By ABS you mean ??? What section would I find an ABS coupler? I tried calling NAPA and some performance places around here but with no luck. If I can get one of those couplers to stretch over the 2.75 inch I will do that, but I don't know where to get one. Please let me know mtelantra, or anyone else for that matter. lol

ABS as in ABS-plastic... as in a coupler made out of ABS plastic. like PVC. types of plastic.
just do this:

The couplers are just black rubber couplers. If you go look at where all the black plastic (ABS) drain piping is, that's where they are. They're about 3-4" long, come with 2 hoseclamps and have ~2.6" ID.
If you look in the engine bay pictures thread, there's a picture of my setup there with the couplers on the MAF and everything. I'm not the only one who has used them successfully.
Sure, they might not be as "cool" as silicone ones, but when you buy from ebay and add on shipping and duty to Canada, these are cheaper... I think I paid $6-8 for one.

IF you can find ones that will work at a hardware store (which I couldn't) then definitely use them. there's not enough pressure going through a CAI to cause the plumbing style couplers to leak.

yeah I am going to go back to canadian tire here in a couple of minutes. I saw those last night but just saw the 2 inch on them so figured would be too small. I will bring a tube with me to make sure they fit. I don't really care all that much that it isn't the right color. If I did I could always paint it.

ok, so i just got back from about 4 stores including Canadian Tire. The 2 inch couplers they have for pvc pipe etc that are rated at 2 inch are not 2.6 approx. There was no way that I was going to be able to stretch it to 2.75. I even thought about expanding the rubber with oil but that type of rubber does not absorb the oil to expand, so that was a no go. I messaged the seller again to see if I can get one out of him, but no response. I told him he has till the end of the day before I post a bad feedback on his ebay account. If there is no response by the end of the say I will just order one from ebay and wait. Atleast it will be the right color, but either way, this sucks.

Don't know what to say dude... I haven't ever seen them with an ID of 2". Did you actually measure the ID? It says 2" to 2" coupler on them, but the ID should be ~2.6", cuz 2" ABS represents the ID of the ABS pipe, not the OD.
This is what they look like:

yeah, thats what I saw, and I did actually measure them, they were 2 inch. I just broke down and ordered one from ebay. It will match and look better in the long run, it just sucks I can't put it in now. I did paint some stuff to compensate for me wanting to intall the intake. Now the engine will look better when I install the intake. Hopefull it won't take that long to get here.
