never really noticed it, since i dont use the horn on a daily basis, but since i did realize it a couple weeks ago, i test it out fairly often

the horn tends not to work, about 80% of the time. sometimes if i hit it one way, it works, but if i hit it another way, it doesnt...i dont know if theres pressure sensors in the wheel itself, or maybe if i need to look at the actual horn itself

anyone have any ideas/similar instances?

When I had my '02 GLS, I had major problems with it. I like to use my horn, because other driver's can be so blind, especially in Orlando.

Mine quite working after about a year and a half. It had nothing to do with the horns up front, it had everything to do with the switch(es) under the airbag. I did replace the horn, and added a switch, so I could still blow a horn.

Do you know how to pull the airbag? It's pretty easy. FIRST, disconnect the battery (important with airbag involved). Then just pop the two covers off the side of the wheel away from you (one around the cruise control stalk and the other on the left side in the same spot), use a T40 Torx bit driver to remove the bolts (one each side- they are retained and will not fall out) then just pull the bag back. If it's too awkward to work on the horn switch with the air bag hanging on the wires, carefully undo the clip on the air bag connector, then pull the connector straight back from the air bag. The horn wires go into a white connector in the column. If you can clean the contacts that may be all it needs.

When connecting the air bag again, push the connector all the way win, THEN put the retaining clip back on. The rest is pretty much reverse of removal.

You don't need a horn, use your finger

Fingers don't make noise, and if you use it on the wrong person, you end up like me, nearing the end of 3 years probation for Agg. Assault.

Doo, he's familar with the wheel from switching to his Tib wheel on the old XD. I think he can handle it, which is good.

Of course, it could be the horn itself, but they are pretty simple technology, I don't see what could go bad on it, unless a rock or something busted it up.

I would guess the horn 'switch' itself (or the contacts on it, etc) is at fault. That's typically where the problem would be with older cars/trucks I've worked on that had this problem.

which is what...between the steering wheel and the air bag?

My elantra's horn does the same thing. You got to press it in just the right spot to get it to go. I guess it doesn't bother me to much since my wife is the one that drives the Elantra.
