take it all out of the trunk and throw some dynamat/fatmat/eDead etc. in the spare tire well and under the trunk lid so you can keep all your bass in the car. Edead is the cheapest. nice and clean install

See title of thread. Unless mom & dad are footing the bill, I doubt many 16 year olds have the cash to go buy top of the line equipment.

The only issue I see is that you've taken up all of the useable space in the trunk. What are you going to do if you have to pick up or drop someone off at an airport or something?

i'm thinking about building a cage around it, as wierd as it sounds, so when i need to put stuff in there, i won't blast my subs, or even leave em off

Seriously, There's 12" Pioneer's that sound 5x better for $99 each at the same store as the Insignia's (which would be Best Buy). I don't wanna make this into a big thing, even though I might have already. My bad....

BTW, coulda just waited to get better stuff, couldn't you/he??? I do realise that I have no real reason to talk, as I buy stuff when I see it, and shouldn't.

I guess that's cool (remember, I'm not an audio guy). I don't use my trunk a lot, but sometimes I need to. You can't possibly use that trunk very easily.

I imagine it sounds good though.

Was it only one Fosgate? That's hard for me to believe. Anyway, beat's what I had at 16 too. I had 2 ghetto 15's w/ a 130 w cheapy amp, lol. Talk about crappy sound! That and it made my Omni look like it was doing a wheelie!

DJ Hellfire

I have one suggestion for a cleaner look. Instead of running the wires to the amp directly of the cap, drill holes in the floor like you did for the ground and battery cable, and go from the cap through and hole in the floor and back up through another hole in the floor right in of the amp power and ground terminals. This way, you won't see the power wire stretching from the cap to the amp.

Or build a small cover out of wood with cutouts for the amp and cap. That way, when you lay it over them, all you see is the amp and cap and all the wires will be hidden by the un-cutout parts. Then put plexi glass in the cutouts and you can use you trunk for groceries and stuff.

I'm with djarsonist, insignia brand = crap. I hope you got a best buy replacement plan on them... so when they blow you can spend another $10 and get name brand.

Don't waste your time putting 18's on an Elantra.

As for the insignia, i was going to be with everyone else and say booo crap etc.. but honestly ive never heard them. so maybe they sound ok. ive been impressed with some of the cheaper brands here and there.. so who knows.. Also the amp and speaekers look cool. and i think the install is pretty clean, im diggin it.

good work and if your happy thats all that really matters.

18's aren't that bad! However, if the offset and tire size are not just right you will rub, and don't even think about putting anyone in the back seat!
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/bdiggy5778/memorialday049.jpg
These are 18x8 with no drop. I took 1 12 out of the trunk because of the sag and now it sits more level and only rubs w/ passengers in the back seat. 2 12's and a drop i'm willing to bet you won't be having anyone in that back seat if you opt for 18".

My only suggestion is to put some wire loom on the wires in the trunk. Other than that, it looks great.

anything above 17 = DONK. have fun never being able to use the back of your car.

You can get some decent looking, inexpensive, relatively lightweight 15" rims (around $88 a piece, 15.5 lb) from Tirerack right now.

The nice things with 15" is that the tires are cheaper and the whole wheel / tire assembly is lighter and doesn't have as much inertia, so they spin up / slow down faster and reduce unsprung weight. In a lot of ways, I wish I'd gotten a lightweight nice set of 15" or 16" rather than the 17" ones I've used...

This is not true at all. When I had to replace one of those stock Michelin energy's it was $180 at Town Fair. When I put the 18's on, the low-pro Kelly charger's were $109 a piece.

i have kuhmo 16s.. they are a Nice tire and ran just a hare less then 60 a piece.. the factory 15s were like 100 each to replace.. so glad i went with 16s just for the reduced tire cost..

Of course, but you have to keep un mind the brand of the tire and the place you are buying it from.
