I just read this on a site called www.iworkwithfools.com (http://www.iworkwithfools.com/#)

"I am an auto mechanic and Ive seen my share of stupid stuff but this takes the taco.

I worked with a guy we'll call nick. Nick gets handed a car to work on with a very rough and sporadic idle (constant revving). So I told him to start looking for vacuum leaks on the plenum hoses. He proceeds to search for this leak by spraying a liquid on all of the hoses. First of all its a VACUUM leak. Its not blowing air out, its sucking air (and this liquid in) so the liquid wouldnt be terribly usefull. Second of all the liquid he was using was carb cleaner. One the most flammable liquids on earth. I walked by and told him several times that the results of this method are futile and fraught with perile, he continues to spray. The last time I went to tell him to please stop, the cars engine compartment ignited. He had sprayed so much all over the engine compartment(with the car running) that it finally hit the exhaust manifold and up it went. I got the fire under control (they still claim no damage on the vehicle). The funniest thing about this dumb $hits fire is that it fixed the car!!! the hoses are rubber and melted back together where ever the hole was. this is the same moron who drops cars off of the lifts. Its worth your while to be sure you leave your car with a good mechanic because a lot of crap happens in a shop. Most are good but there are plenty morons to go around"

Nice, I'll remember that for the next time I have a probable vacuum leak, fire fixes everything....

I have heard from other people that inorder to find a vacume leak spray small amounts of carb cleaner, and when the idle increases you have found the leak. I wouldn't try it though.

I do like to play with Carb Cleaner after BBQs are over if you control the spray you can pick op flames and cary them around, Just don't let them get close to the can.:) I know there are other Pyros out there.
