So, I have removed air snorkels on other vehicles with no excitment what so ever. But with the elantra it was like going on a journey. I looked down on the intake air box lid. And my adventure began. I followed the duct around by the battery and through the metal. I then was amazed that I couldn't figure out just from looking which way the duct went. So then I removed the wheel well skirting. And was amazed to see that huge box. I searched with no success to find the hole that the air would enter this device. Then wow! There is a flex duct leaving this box. I thought to myself "could this be some sort of ram air" My heart started pounding as I attempted to confirm my suspisions. With what could only be described as a big bear hug. I followed this flex duct over and up to were I could not see. Determined not to be beatin. I removed the shroud connected to the air box lid. What did I see? There it was. Not ram air but just a snorkel sitting there sucking in hot air just a foot away from the filter. But somehow and for some reason the air haD to go on a 4 foot journey. So my journey ended with me shorting the air's journey. By removing all that nonsense. Thank you for reading, about my journey.

You could have saved yourself about an hour of wasted time if you would have searched here first. But finding out for yourself is half the fun. Good job!

Yeah, the snorkel sucks. Mine is in a landfill in florida somewhere.

do you need to get rid of all this junk for the cai ???? I have a short ram but plan on the accord intake soon......i guess it will come out anyways for the weight reduction. I plan on getting rid of a lot of unnecisary ? weight this week

In short... YES. For the Accord CAI, you need to take all of that out becuase that is where the filter will end up.

Ha! A nice adventure in learning a little more about your Elantra. I figured it out for myself as well. It was one of the very first things I did along with a K&N filter.

Yeah lots of fun. I removed snorkels in ford products before and they were just inside the wheel well turned back towards the doors. That is why I was so surprised to see all that junk. I too have installed a K&N filter.
