View Full Version : Want to make new Grills...

Were selling tons of Road Runs Grills for all cars, including Elantra. In my opinion, they are overpriced. Not by us, we have to cover costs of course, but by road runs themselves (our cost on them). But people still buy these things up.

Im thinking of starting our own line of grills for all cars similar to road runs. Like them, they should have one basic design. For example, Road runs design is a basic open mouth grill, with an upside down triangle on the bottom that has space for an triangular emblem.

if we do make grills for cars, the price including shipping for them would probably be in the less than 95 including shipping range, as opposed to the 130-200+ that road runs cost. We would also have full carbon fiber option on all of the grills.

Now, my question is, if we do make new grills for cars (including elantra), what should we do? I dont want it to be 100% plain like say the genius one. I do want to incorporate something. Here were my ideas:

1. Similar to road runs, yet bottom middle would have oval shaped emblem instead of triangle.
2. Same as above yet round shaped emblem.
3. Same as above 2 yet on the top middle of the grill instead of bottom middle.
4. Have a small square or half circle in each of the top (or bottom) corners of the grill, where we would give an "E" and an "F" emblem (for ef auto, evofusion), for each section, using those special OEM type emblems that shark racing has been selling.
5. Same as above, but the E and the F would actually be built into the mold, so that they come out in fiberglass already etched into the grill.
6. Have emblems that have a line going through the middle where we would have the emblem...similar to the tomato Sorento Grill:

Or is there another style you think would be good. Remember, this is not necessarily JUST for the elantra, but for any car. What one style do you think would you not only consider buying for your elantra, but say if you had a Kia spectra, youd also think about it.

Im getting tired of charging customers 150+ for a tiny piece of fiberglass. Now that we are opening a new factory in Asia we should be able to get prices down.

Number 4 and then number 5. You should also consider an option with the M&S shield shape to install the small or medium M&S badge.

How about something like this...

I made this one myself. I have a lot of "in progress" pics if you are interested. I have been thinking of making one for my wife's Sonata as well.

Ilan, I do like that grille, but it is almost too plain for me. Although, I do like the fact that it kind of copies the fins on a Tib.

definatly like that white car. badgeless and simple, and not made of that oem matte black plastic material that is a ***** to clean.

Same here

Also have always liked Ford's honeycomb grills with just a center emblem and no bars.

Actually, this is a modified OEM grille with Dodge honeycomb inserted in the blank spots.

I think the tuscani bumper style grill would be too hard to make in fiberglass due to the number of ribs.

The one that CVVt posted would work i suppose. You guys dont think its too plain? What would we have in the middle? What kind of emblem would be good?

yeah, it kinda sucks with the XD2...there is only so much you can do before it looks out of place...

I agree.

As for the emblem... what is wrong with the crooked H? Unless you can't sell that logo. You could also leave the spot for the stock emblem and leave it to your buyer to swap them out.

ok, im still not sure exactly what style to make.

here is a question for everyone. What if we kept it really similar to the road runs style? With the emblem on the bottom middle? But instead of the triangle emblem, we used the Avante XD oval "ings" emblem that some of you have? And then, what if we gave 2 small oem quality emblems (like those ones i see on shark racings website), that corresponded to the number of the grill you got. For example, if you bought the first grill, youd get 01. If you got the 23rd grill, youd get 23. They would go in the corner of the grill, but would be optional.

Anyway, how many would be interested in something like that that would be under 100 including shipping possibly? Or better yet, for those who have bought road runs, genius, ixion, or other grills that cost 120-160, how many would have gotten this one if you had the option?

Our grill is tricky, I don't think having the emblem in any spot other than the stock location will look good.

On the XD2s, definitely not. They look good with no emblem.

Ilan, that grille is sick! makes me wish i had an xd2 front end....... nah what am i thinking. if you can make one that looks like that for the xd and xd2 that would be awsome.

otherwise i love the Roadruns grille, and also the Genius grille. so

I like Ilan's version too. Wonder how easy it would be to make one for the HD?
