Yeah i almost lost my thumg today at work! I had an unfortunate meeting with a utility knife opening a package and cut my thumb from the nuckle to the tip. I severed one of the nerves in it and will never have feeling in it again. So 4 hours in the ER and 5 stitches later here i am. the pain is starting to come back right now. and oh boy it's something else. So no Wii for me tonight.

Congrats on being clean five years! Sucks you cut your thumb. Next time, move your other hand before you cut! :D
I have never abused painkillers but I still refuse them when I could use them. They make me barf. I'd rather be in pain for five days than barf once.

Damn, that takes some real strong will to come off of those. I had family members with the same problem. Good for you.
Sorry about the thumb, though.

I'm glad to hear that you didn't lose your thumb.
Hand injuries hurt a lot due to the amount of nerves in them. You can often take Ibuprofen (Advil) and Acetaminophen (Tylenol) simultaneously, so you could try that. Another option would be to take larger doses of Ibuprofen. I've known people who were prescribed 1200 to 2000 mg of Ibuprofen per dose.
It would, of course, be advisable for you to check with your doctor before trying either of those techniques.
Hang in there!

Ibuprofen is a painkiller up to approximately 600mg. After that dosage, it acts as an anti-inflammatory. If pain is the culprit, it doesn't do much good to take more than 600mg ibuprofen for pain.

Awww, that is so sweet:abovelol: Good to hear you still got the thumb dude. I'd have to say that would probably be the worst one to lose, though the middle would be a close second:D

I think the *** messed up the link... but I was able to see it in your image album.
It looks like it might be getting infected, but it might just be red from inflammation. keep an eye on it.

That works.
I know what you mean about subsequently hurting an injured hand. I'd fill in the details but it's a long story.
It looks like you're going to have some scarring once everything heals. You'll have to come up with a better story for the scars than a box cutter -- something like "Did I ever tell you how my pet mountain lion almost bit off my thumb?"

That gash on your thumb looks like hell! Owwwwww! I slammed two of my fingers in the door of a floor safe and peeled the skin back off my broken knuckles and it never looked that bad.

a quick thought, if you lost feeling in the finger, in an on the job accedint you should have a pretty healthy check coming from L&I. If you completely lost the finger it would be in the range of $25k, but nerve damage should still have some type of settlement. Could be worth milkin for a fat check!! All those years of payin for it on your checks, might as well see if you can come up.
