We don't have those differences over here.
We have a base model and an "elite" model.
I got the base model as I couldn't justify the extra 5K. ;)
I'd prefer to spend that 5K in mods! :D

Looks good. And to add a little more, all the Elantras over there have the black side molding (that's what he was explaining). Good luck with the modding.

I used a method I learnt on this site I'll give props when I see who posted it.
It is the hair-dryer/dental floss technique. ;)
I'm also going to paint the crooked H symbols a matt black. I'm not sure what sort of paint to use (spray, brush, enamel???) though so any advice would be appreciated.

Also, don't order me to take a picture, a simple 'please' can go a long way.
EDIT: YES IN AUSTRALIA WE HAVE A REAR FOG LIGHT! I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT KNOWING! MINE ISN'T HOOKED UP THOUGH.

I was under the impression that the Australian Hyundais come with a rear "fog light." Doesn't part of one of the taillights stay lit up a dull red color when the car is on? Isn't that why the taillights are different? Same goes not only for the Elantra but for the Accent as well, they actually have another red light in the bumper that the North American/Korean ones don't have. Or, am I completely wrong?
I wasn't ordering you, sorry if it came off that way. Can you please take a picture of the car at night for us? Thanks.
Seinster
08-27-2004, 08:06 PM
OK I know what you're talking about now. My car doesn't have that though and I don't think any of the current models have that light.
I remember them though from the excels and accents, and thought that with only one light it looks silly.
So yeah, no rear fog light/'s on the Elantra over here.
Will do the night pics tonight for ya!

maybe in australia they kept the gas pedal assembly the same?

Yeah it was a simple slip on procedure.
Bought the pedal covers from psc: http://www.performancestylingcentre.com.au/interior/alloy%20pedals.htm
Now I just need the deadpedal. :)
While the clutch and brake had rubber covers already on them (now of course removed), the gas pedal didn't.
Hope this helps.

As far as the debadging goes ... the dental floss works very well, but wear leather gloves or you'll dang near cut your fingers off. Just wrap the floss around your index fingers like you are going to floss your choppers and slide it under the name plate. It does work better if it is warmed up with a hairdryer or from sitting in the sun. All that is holding the badges on is double sided tape. A very inexpensive product that works very well to clean off the excess residue of adhesive is BBQ lighter fluid. When you are done with the lighter fluid, wipe off with a damp cloth then spot polish and wax. It will look like there was never a badge. That's how I did mine anyway. The tail looks so much cleaner without them. Here's a couple pictures of my Elantra.

The lighter fluid also works great for taking tar off your paint. Be sure to clean it thoroughly after using it, though. I have never experienced any paint damage, but it will definitely strip any wax or other protective coatings.

Hello all!
I have 2 new pictures representing the latest changes in my car.
Firstly we have the clear side indicators. These were from kspec and I believe they are from the kia carnival (people mover). They were a bit of a ***** to put in because the wiring connector isn't the same, so I had to cut some plastic to make the new ones fit, and I have just clear globes so it is white at night which is kind of nice...being different.
Anyhow I'm happy with them now.
http://members.optushome.com.au/seinfjw/elantra/clearsideindicator.jpg
The next picture is just showing my B&M shifter. I have already commented on how good this is, shifts are so much quicker, and it feels just right! :)
I couldn't EVER go back to a standard shifter after feeling the throws with this, also funnily enough the "reverse sticking issue" seems to have dissapeared since I put this in. :odd:

Heh... i haven't debadged my Elantra yet... but when i debadged my tib i just dug my fingernails into it and ripped the badges off then wiped all the sticky crap off with some bug and tar remover and it came out nice and clean :)

Door Panel Mod Phase 1
http://members.optushome.com.au/seinfjw/elantra/doorpanel1.jpg
http://members.optushome.com.au/seinfjw/elantra/armrest1.jpg
Phase 1 consisted of chrome tweeter covers and covering the arm rest grey vinyl with black vinyl. Doing the vinyl was such a pain in the *** (took a long time), and although my result isn't perfect, I am happy with it for now. But eventually I'll probably strip it all and redo it.
Door Panel Mod Phase 2
http://members.optushome.com.au/seinfjw/elantra/Phase2.FrD.Door.jpg
Front drivers door
Phase 2 consisted of chrome door handles from Dreamka4u (http://www.dreamka4u.com) and spray painting the lower half of the door with 4 coats of matt black spray paint, followed by 1 coat of clear, followed by another coat of matt black. The upper half (vinyl) was dyed. Installing the door handles was really easy. Compliments to SuperGLS's DIY.

Hello everybody, and thanks for checking out my ride. :)
Today I am showing my strut bar and CAI.
The strut bar was bought for only 30 dollars, and even though it's a cheapie, I still see a difference in cornering and I'm glad that I got it.
http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2815
I got the CAI from the USA via eBay. Postage was a killer.
Here it is:
http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2903
The CAI was pretty tough to install, I had never attempted something like this before. But after a total of 7 hours in the garage and a few beers later I finished.
Here's a tip for removing the resonator box, aside from Gearcat's great instructions found here:
http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showpost.php?p=83094&postcount=40
One of the two bolts holding it in place is easily reached from the front of the car as seen here:
http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2902
The actual installation of the CAI was pretty straight forward, just trim to fit, thanks to jfreak for the tips and motivation! Thanks to everybody here who taught me what a CAI is.
Please don't look at my corroded battery terminals, I'm still searching for a way to clean it because the baking soda method didn't work for me.
Anyhow:

Thanks for looking everybody, hope you enjoy.

Wanna clean your battery terminals? Try Coca-Cola, haha. It Works!
Car's lookin good, man!
clearing the lights.. did you melt the headlight and reclear that plastic piece? or did you just change the amber thing.. i've always wanted to know about this.. lol
Seinster
11-29-2005, 02:38 AM
Melt the headlight?? LOL!
No, I hope not! You need to first remove the globes, and all rubber pieces from the assembly. Then cook it in the oven @ 150 degrees celcius, for 6 minutes, then check every minute up to 10 minutes, to see how things are cooking! When the glue stuff has melted, it's a piece of piss to pull the two pieces apart, just make sure you've got a screwdriver ready to move the glue out of the way, if it gets on the chrome inside, or on anything for that matter, it is REALLY hard to get the stuff off, especially @ room temperatures.
I removed the amber piece, as per rizzle's suggestion from a rumour I tried bleaching the lens, overnight (24hours) in 100% bleach solution, this my friends will not work!
Your only chance at a clear lens is to get a plastics place to manufacture it, or buy the $$$ Korean OEM version.
I ordered my globes from www.autolumination.com.
Packaging was good, but they overcharged me for shipping, so I won't be ordering from them again unless they credit me.
Quoted me an extra $5 USD for international postage, then I see actual postage as $3.50 USD. Bastards.... I'm getting really tired of getting ripped off for postage, no matter $2 or $30. So yeah if you order from them, say upfront, you'll only pay $3.50 postage or they'll lose your business.
Thanks for the support!
Coca-cola? Sounds like an urban myth to me! ;)
I use one those terminal cleaning thing ohs, they are 2 peice, the centre bit comes out and is a pointed brush for the terminal, and the bit it comes out of slips over the pole and has internal wire bristles, ya just give it a twirl and you`re gold.
melt the headlight.. melt the glue.. same thing lol
so clearing the headlight was just putting the clear corner on there.. not actually re-clearing the plastic. my plastic on the inside is dirty/scratched up or something.. that is why i was wondering about that :P
Coca cola does work on rust/battery acid. You do have to scrub a little bit but it does work.. i did it on my old integra when i had dried battery acid all over my terminals.. ate that **** away!
Seinster
11-29-2005, 03:23 AM
OK I'll try some coke, (don't have any on hand though, will pepsi work?? :D )
I don't think I'm understanding what you're saying mate...
I didn't really 'put' anything extra into the headlight, I just removed the amber lens, and added chrome-colored amber-flashing bulbs.
If you do this mod, when your headlight is apart, it is the perfect time to clean up any dirt particles and/or scratches. Pics would help, because I don't really understand how you could have scratches on the inside.
Appearance forum though please. ;)
well they're not really scratches.. lol im just saying there could be. its mainly that dust.. so ill have to try that. all other stuff i will stick in the appearance forum though and not hog your thread :P i just saw how clear your headlight was and thought to myself "damn.. wish mine were that clear.. ill ask him about it"
more mods! lol

OK, here's a little bit of an update, just because it's been a while and I really like these pictures.
Since my last update I've done the clear headlight mod, and the window tape removal mod.
My next two mods are painting jobs & fog lights.
I believe I'm spending a bit too much time on appearance, but everything that I do, I really like & I'm still not sure whether I'm going to stay with N/A or go for F/I.
These pics were taken @ a national park on my vacation, I did a lot of driving including offroad AGAIN!

I'd love to lower it, but because I drive fast regularly including over speed bumps and unmade roads, and because a few stores I visit regularly have very steep driveways it really isn't possible. I already have hit the tow hooks quite a few times.
I suppose if I got some bigger wheels it would be possible, but one of my favourite things about the Elantra is that it's so unassuming and doesn't attract a lot of attention.
I get paranoid about it as it is! :D

Sure thing, there are a couple of patches which don't have a clear coat on it (like some other people on the site), so be advised if you do this mod, you'll probably need to get it resprayed.
Luckily my car is already booked into the body shop next week for some other work. :)
I'll get the pics up a bit later on (3-4 hours time) and edit this post.
Edit: It was pretty hard to get a good shot, but in person it is quite noticable from 1 metre away, further away and it looks fine.
...and regarding the tails, I'm quite happy to get a dealer quote for the assemblies, so if anybody wants them, feel free to PM me.

I resealed them by putting them back in the oven again, and made sure the glue stuff was really soft. Then I pushed it really hard, with whole body strength and some pliers as well. Personally mine haven't fogged up at all. Although, I recall when I first got the car I had fogging problems, go figure. ;)
