Hey i'm planning on getting an 01/02 elantra and was wondering if they come with a factory moonroof in the sedans or is it not available. Also i am in canada and the trim levels are gl and ve i think.... no gls as far as i know. I don't wont to go to a hatchback or GT because insurance will take me to the cleaners. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure an 01/02 would have a sunroof as a factory option and I'm also pretty sure a GT won't jack your rates.

be sure to check the rates on ALL the elantras, as in the US, they carry quite high insurance rates relative to some other cars (possibly because of their rapid depreciation and likelyhood of being declared totalled with moderate damage).

thanks for the insurance info. Does anyone know for sure that a sunroof is available on the sedan or does anyone own a sedan with a sunroof, 2001 or 2002?

If you look down the bottom under model line up, it notes only the 4-door gls is available and:
'Other options available include a moonroof'
Edit: Forgot you are in Canada....I put '2001 Elantra' into Google and found this. I am sure if you did the same you'd find a similar page.

Ok well first off Elantra's come with a sunroof not moonroof. The difference is that a sunroof, when totally opened, slides into the roof. A moonroof will stay tilted open and slide back. #2 If you want a sunroof you can add it on as an option no matter which elantra you buy. When I first purchased mine in 2001, I was going to buy the GLS. But I asked him to put in a moonroof and something else which i forgot what it was. I believe a CD player but not sure. Anyhow, when I went into the showroom I saw the GT and fell in love with it lol so I bought it. And I don't see why the GT would be more expensive for insurance. I'm sure the sport-0tuned suspension should help out a bit. And finally as for it being declared totalled for minor damage, I'd have to beg to differ cuz I was in a really bad accident which included frame damage and my insurance still paid for it. 6,700 in damages. Hope I was able to clear a few things up guys.
